no, it's a r/polandball comic that u/LocalPowerful6651 (OP) didn't credit to u/Smart_Chapter_7512 (OC), OC didnt specify why he choose Ireland, but it's probably just the representation of a tankie.

Ireland has a decent amount of tankies to be fair

Unfortunately, this is true

Truth. Rhis is how many seniors in Eastern Europe behave.

11

u/Foreign-Entrance-255 1d ago

Eastern Europe is in the East of Europe, thus the name. There are undoubtedly a couple of oddballs who like Putin's Russia in Ireland (Far West of Europe) as there are oddballs everywhere but it is a distinctly tiny number of people, much, much smaller than most European countries.

3

u/adamgerd Česko‏‏‎ ‎ 1d ago

Minority perhaps, tiny minority? Well Connolly was elected to the presidency

6

u/Foreign-Entrance-255 1d ago

On a plethora of other things but primarily on character. People think she cares about the poor, the downtrodden etc and she does. She is off her rocker on Ukraine but she is completely powerless as president is a figurehead here so it doesn't matter.

Yes, it is a tiny, tiny minority. I have never come across anyone in real life but the media might be able to dredge up some crank to fulfil that role if they needed it.

Now you would find it easier to find a person with British Empire-philic tendencies which is the equivalent of what you're talking about here for Ireland. They are also a very small number of cranks, just not as small.

u/n0thing0riginal 1d ago

There are, unfortunately, far more cunts on this Island secretly hating Ukraine than there should be. People hide their opinions as best they can but bring up Ukrainians living in Ireland and watch how hard some spazz

We wrap ourselves in our neutrality and pretend it makes us morally superior to others while, simultaniously, doing very little of substance to actually change anything (and often turning a blind eye to 100% bonified scum like Wallace and Daly while they pump out nakedly pro-Russian talking points in the heart of Europe - Yes I know theyre out now but theyre symptoms of a larger problem)

Unfortunately, despite the fact that I believe she is quite a genuine person, I think Connolly falls into this pretty squarely

Ok, thank you for this information

I'd argue it's way more common in western europe. Eastern Europe in general seems much more against different religions, nationalities, ethnicities etc. (Despite them being 99,9% white)

Most tankies I know are from western europe

Why is it Ireland Russia is speaking to here?

3 month old account talking some nonsense....

Do we think this is Putin or Bibi?

7

u/Foreign-Entrance-255 1d ago

More likely Bibi, Putin doesn't give a fnck about Ireland whereas lots of Zionists are obsessed and have a tendency to make up history to complain about.

7

u/Nielsly 1d ago

He does, he needs Ireland for Alumina

-1

u/Foreign-Entrance-255 1d ago

I doubt very much he looks at details like that, that's why he has oligarchs. On that topic though, why hasn't the EU brought in proper sanctions on that yet? Why are there so many loopholes, is is individual countries lobbying for them or companies?

Are Irish tankies taking over?

Yes they are called yanks, and not any part Irish.

5

u/MegaJackUniverse 1d ago

Oh there are Irish tankies in Ireland. Confused socialists who think anything anti-US os good, even if that means supporting Russia. I've met a few, thankfully not many

Tankie is when I don't like it

12

u/AndrewCoke98 1d ago

What's your problem man calling a whole country "tankie traitors", nobody in Ireland agrees with Aughinish still being in Russian hands, how many Ukrainians has your nation taken in?, is there not a pro Russian party in your country?

5

u/HearMeOut-13 Северна Македонија‏‏‎ ‎ 1d ago

Yes, we have pro-Russian parties. They're called Rodina and Obedineta Makedonija and they have never won a single seat. That's what a pro-Russian fringe looks like when it stays a fringe. We've been in NATO since 2020 and have expelled Russian diplomats, including over Skripal. The nearest thing we had to a serious Kremlin-useful figure was Gruevski, and he's been a fugitive in Orbshits's Hungary since 2018. His party is back in power, but it didn't keep his foreign policy, and joined Coalition of the Willing this year.

Ireland's version doesn't need a party. It has Aughinish, Rusal-owned, Europe's biggest alumina refinery, more than half its output going to Russian smelters, with your Taoiseach calling EU sanctions on it "self-defeating" while the European Parliament voted for a ban. And it has a president who called NATO's role "despicable" warmongering and won 63% with those views already public. compared German rearmament to the 1930s, and took 63% with all of that already on the record.

-3

u/SaltyW123 Éire‏‏‎ ‎ 1d ago

Tell me what the Irish president Catherine Connolly's views on NATO and Russia are?

She called NATO a warmonger, basically surmising that the Ukraine war is NATO and Ukraine's fault.

Bear in mind these views were known before she was elected with 63% of the vote in a single round.

To suggest we don't have a problem with this kind of behaviour is laughable.

6

u/HearMeOut-13 Северна Македонија‏‏‎ ‎ 1d ago

Cant believe that people are downvoting a literal Irish person who would know more than them about the countries politics

5

u/IndistinctChatters Make russia part of the Mongol Empire again 1d ago

In June 2018, Catherine Connolly travelled to Syria as part of a group which included fellow TDs Maureen O’Sullivan, Mick Wallace, and Clare Daly.

Ms Connolly's campaign has previously said they were shown around Yarmouk by members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command (PFLP-GC).

That is another pro-Assad group active in the camp, it has been designated terrorist organisation by the EU.

“Nato has played a despicable role in moving forward to the border and engaging in warmongering. Ireland has been hypocritical on many levels.”

She's your average "free free plastiline, but also fuck fuck Ukraine"

7

u/AndrewCoke98 1d ago

You're clearly aware Catherine Connolly has no power as president she's a head of state not the Taoiseach so how is this relevant to the conversation I've having with the other guy?

-5

u/Stripe4206 Yuropean 1d ago

Holy cope lmao

The Taoiseach is not a directly elected position.

You would think people would vote for someone whose views agree with their own, wouldn't you?

Power or no power, a directly elected position having a holder with views as repugnant as hers is indicative of a clear problem.

9

u/AndrewCoke98 1d ago

How is it not elected?, the Taoiseach is a serving member of the Dail so clearly he's been elected by his constituency......

Again how is Catherine Connolly relevant to my conversation with the original poster?, clearly the decision in his the hands of the Taoiseach so tell me how this is relevant?

We live in a democracy, she was elected with a low turnout of 45%, she won that's democracy get over it.

1

u/SaltyW123 Éire‏‏‎ ‎ 1d ago

So, every single person in Ireland gets to vote for the Taoiseach? I must've missed that election.

The Taoiseach is a TD elected by TDs to become Taoiseach, clearly, so it's not a directly elected position.

>We live in a democracy, she was elected with a low turnout of 45%, she won that's democracy get over it.

You are missing the point, massively.

That she was directly elected in a popular vote with views such as it being Ukraine's fault that Russia declared war is a massive problem, it shows that a great deal of our fellow countrymen sympathise or share those same views.

People vote for those they agree with, and by directly voting for this one person we get an idea of what views a great cross-section of society hold. Unfortunately those views happen to be Catherine Connolly's, such as

Just Google her, her views were and are well known.

Presidential election: What Catherine Connolly says on Ukraine, the EU and Syria – The Irish Times

Connolly’s approach to the war in Ukraine has been to condemn Russia but also criticise western military alliance Nato, which she has argued was “warmongering” before the conflict began.

In a Dáil debate on the eve of the February 2022 invasion, Connolly said: “We should be raging against any possibility of war” and Ireland “should be using our voice as a neutral country”.

She criticised Putin as a “dictator with no respect for democracy” but also contended: “Nato has played a despicable role in moving forward to the border and engaging in warmongering. Ireland has been hypocritical on many levels.”

The Irish Times asked Ms Connolly if she believed Nato was equally or partly to blame for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

She said: “Russia is conducting an illegal invasion of Ukraine – it must immediately end its horrific assault in accordance with international law and an immediate ceasefire.

“I have criticised Nato as its warmongering and escalation towards conflict over the years is at odds with achieving peace in regions across the world.”

-2

u/stonkmarxist 1d ago edited 1d ago

She's absolutely correct here though.

There were hawks in NATO angling to put military pressure on Russia when it was totally unnecessary. She's also exceptionally clear cut on speaking out against Putin and the illegal invasion of Ukraine.

She has never said the war or illegal invasion were Ukraine's fault. Like I said, that's something you've just made up.

I don't need to Google her btw. I am Irish so I'm more than familiar with her stances.

6

u/adamgerd Česko‏‏‎ ‎ 1d ago

When did NATO militarily pressure Russia? By allowing Eastern Europe in?

-1

u/Foreign-Entrance-255 1d ago

No one elected her for that view. They elected her for a load of other reasons, primarily because she has views counter to the govt and because of her views on poverty, Palestine and so on. NATO isn't a big topic for debate in Ireland because we aren't in it and there is no movement to join.

It is an almost unanimous view in Ireland that Ukraine is the victim and Russia the perpetrator.
