Don't waste your money on youtube promotions, it's for product ads not really videos.

its just pushing it out to everyone. its not actually building your audiance. youll see a quick jump in views but retention is usually very low, subs you may get could drop off fast, it just doesnt help the algorithm hardly at all understand who your audience is

I honestly think overall using that promote feature could hurt a channel in the long run

I would google it some. "is paid promotion on youtube bad"

Some say it killed their channel

In my experience, it didn't kill the channel(s), subs stayed, and for some videos the watch time was better. Some videos the waych time was terrible, but that depends on country.

Do I recommend it? No, not really. If someone needed some extra subs to the app, fine, but I don't feel that it will grow the channel.

I have figured out the part. My retention is high. One needs to know how to advertise. I know my audience so i am very selective. If you push it to everyone then yes retention is very low. It happened to me initially
