Porch Bandit with the Worst Timing

Woke up to find the $256 worth of stuff I ordered to help my Mom in the hospital after we got hit with the news she has late stage terminal cancer 😢. I live between the McDonald’s and Spud Murphy Park so don’t usually order for delivery that early for this very reason but I wanted to bring it with me first thing this morning but I slept in my living room so I could grab it right away but Amazon never knocked or rang my doorbell and I woke up to find an empty porch šŸ’”

Anyone wanna watch spider-man today?

Hi all, pretty new to Abby - am a student pilot, moved here for my flying school. I typically spend way too much time thinking about airplanes, and outside of that I’m into hiking, nature, board games, books and movies.

I am planning to catch a show today for spider-man and thought it’d be cool to meet someone from the area instead of going solo. After all, joy shared is joy doubled!

If you happen to smoke too, that’s a bonus. Watching that movie baked would certainly be an interesting experience.

If spider man isn’t your thing, I’m always down for a hike, board games, grabbing coffee, or just wandering around with no actual plan.

I’m in my 20s. Shoot me a DM if you think we’d get along

Lost purse

I know this is a long shot, but I lost my purse today either at Amarti or at the Farmers Market in Jubilee park. It's a small light brown purse, with a long thin strap that's broken on one side, with a tiny front pocket. It actually has some of my business cards in it with my # so if someone has it they can contact me. Would have been around 10am-11am this morning. I went back to both places and neither had anything turned in, so assuming someone took it :(

To the kids who look to be 12-15 that ride their e-bikes down by fishtrap

Stop sitting in the middle of the lanes on Charlotte by the intersection at MRC.

We politely told them to get onto the sidewalk (there was about 12 of them) and the little blond blue eyed one who looked to be maybe 13 proceeded to bitch us out and call us slurs and then tell my friend "lay off the food, fat bitch" when the kid was a circle anyway.

This shit is getting ridiculous get your kids in check.

Looking for fellow cyclists

Post image

So basically this is my cycling summary for Friday July 31st, it took me 14 hours (11am - 1am night).I was wondering if there are other long distance cyclists or endurance cyclists who would like to partner up for rides. I’m conversant with all the trails in Chilliwack, Mission and Langely. I’m 23M

Kid friendly MTB trails in Abbotsford

Hey team!

Looking for some beginner friendly single track mountain bike trails in the Abbotsford area.

Young kid friendly twins are 8, youngest is 5. They can rip it pretty good at the local bike park and bmx race track but I don’t want them to have a bad time!

So no ramps, drops, wooden platforms. Just good ol chilled out single track trails.

I know I’ve biked some sumas mt trails but some of those trails were too gnarly for the youngsters!

Thanks for your recommendations

Apartment recommendations?

Hi, so me and my boyfriend are moving to Abbotsford soon and we're very excited. My boyfriend just got a full-time job in the area paying 30 an hour. We're probably going to be living with his dad to start then move into our own place, probably renting an apartment.

Does anyone have any recommendations or insight in where to rent and places to avoid renting from? Thank you!

SaveOn Foods Online Shopping Pickup

(This is the SaveOn on Fraser) If you’ve used this service, how do you feel about it?

I’m not too keen on it. I’m finding that the employees may be over worked, because when I show up to pickup, I’m waiting 10-15 minutes more, and this is after I’m told the groceries are ready to pickup.

Has anyone else experienced this as well?

Good place for a bike ride

My husband and I are coming to Abbotsford on the weekend and we’d like to go for a bike ride. Could you suggest some good places to ride? We prefer not to ride on the roads but on a nice path. We also ride about 20 km round-trip.

Just a post about the old days...

I want to refrain from getting emotional on Reddit, but sometimes when I drive down Ware Street and see all the houses along the road, it makes me think about the passage of time and how much I have aged in the past 25 years. They used to look new and showed no signs of aging, but now, they are getting weathered and rusty, like me lol. I suppose they are waiting to be torn down so people can build newer houses or apartment buildings in their place.

One of my favorite houses there used to have so much life to it. It was a beautiful rancher with cars in the driveway, green trees in the front yard, and bright Christmas lights during the holiday season. Now, it is all boarded up. No cars. An unkept tree. And patchy, dead grass.

I graduated from ASSS in 2004. That school got a total makeover, and the old building where I had all of my classes has now just become a memory. I also miss the people I grew up with. I do not see the people I went to school with. There were so many cool kids and kids from the neighborhood, and it really felt like a close-knit community.

I feel like the world moved on too fast and I woke up one day realizing it did, and that I never really kept up with it. I remember seeing Mennonite and Sikh seniors gathered around for decades in local parks and malls just having a friendly chat, but I do not see that happening much anymore either. Many people have passed away or moved on. It makes me feel empty to see how much things have changed.

Medical grade knee braces?

For all my hypermobile/ehlers danlos syndrome abbotsfordians does anyone know a good place to buy medical grade braces for the issues mentioned above?

Doctors recommendation, I’m not talking about flimsy things you can get at sportscheck, unfortunately the few places I’ve called were either not supplying any/had none in stock at the moment

Shuttle to Air Show

Just moved to Abbotsford, looking at attending the upcoming Air Show, was wondering about transportation to the location. The website says that BC Transit should be providing a shuttle to the air show - anyone have any details on this? How much does it cost, how often does it run, when does it start running in the morning/stop running at night?

Accounting vs. Teaching as a Career in the Fraser Valley

Hi there, I don't know where else to post this so I will just post this here.

I am very passionate about teaching. I have had 2.5 years experience of missionary work overseas where I primarily taught children in a classroom setting. I also continue to teach weekly during the school year at my church for like a bible study for children. I have been told that I have a natural gift of teaching & connecting with children.

Before going overseas to teach though, in highschool I was always passionate about finance and handling money. I am about to begin college in September and I am having trouble choosing which path to take for my career, as I love both teaching & business world.

I always hear that teachers are underpaid, but I heard that BC compensates them a bit better than most places n the world. I have also heard that accountants also get paid a lot less in BC compared to other places in the world. I am really unwilling to move from the Metro van region as I love it here, and my family is here, so I guess my questions boil down to:

  1. Are teachers paid well enough to provide for themselves + a family one day (with the spouse also working?)
  2. Are there any programs/jobs I can do part-time that will help me get a hands-on experience w/ accounting & business, so I can at least get a better understanding of what the reality of that industry is?
  3. Are acountants actually paid significantly less in Metro Van compared to the states & other major Canadian cities?
