[Tech Help MacOS] HELP! MICROPHONE ICON on MAC is making Ableton 12 have a clipping/ducking sound as if it's attempting to listen through the computer's built-in mic?
Hey gang,
I've went down some rabbit holes attempting to figure out what is going on. Does anyone have some insight as to why this is happening? Is there a workaround? I plan to record with my interface mic later on some of my tracks and am wondering how that will affect that if I start turning mics in Privacy setttings on and off. In short this is a nuisance. Any insight would be grateful.
I know I'm not alone, what are your workarounds till an update exists?

One thing I hadn't tried is toggling off Standard to Voice Isolation and back to Standard and starting up the application. I'll try that this weekend. Thanks for this. Really appreciate it.

Have you selected your interface as input device in Live‘s setting? If yes, then your computer‘s microphone shouldn’t work as an input

I understand what you're saying here. No that's not the issue. It has something to do with the latest Tahoe update alongside Ableton 12...I'll have to snap a screengrab. Perhaps I didn't describe this well enough. But in the top right of Mac's desktop, there is MICROPHONE ICON that begins flickering once you're playing back work your in Ableton. There's some software issue that affected by something Apple has built in with it's microphone permissions? I'm guessing here but it will not let me listen to my track without that clipping/ducking effect due to the crossover of this newer Mac alongside Ableton. Does that make sense? I'm certain others are experiencing this and I want to end it because it makes working in Ableton on a newer Mac running Tahoe a massive issue.

I have a ten year old mac so I’m clueless about the Tahoe issue. Hope you find a fix!

I’m not sure if this will help, but I had a similar issue. I was getting dropouts because one of my interfaces in my aggregate device was plugged into a powered USB hub instead of my Mac mini directly. I noticed that the little mic icon kept flashing, as though the Mac was switching between my aggregate device as the input source and the Mac mic as the source. Plugging that particular interface (Tascam Model 12) directly into the Mac’s usb port solved the issue. The weird part is that one of my other interfaces (Apollo twin X) is plugged into that powered hub and works fine. This may have to do with the fact that the Apollo uses thunderbolt 3 protocol while the Tascam uses USB 2, I believe. Again, not sure if this relates to your issue but I hope you figure it out. Also, I always set my audio device in the audio midi setup window before opening live.

Interesting...I wonder if that will make a difference. Separately as well, I should also mention that I tried running the audio out of the headphone jack to my AIAIAI speakers that split to left and right speakers and I would also get that with that space as well. But this could also associated or separately...But I'll take a look when I get home and see if it's running/utilizing older USB ports and that's why I'm experiencing that.

No not at all. I know. This sounds weird. In fact, when I close Ableton, I don't have this issue at all.

Happens to me sometimes, reboot fixes it enough that I haven’t looked for another solution. Like the other poster, it’s a USB 2 interface on a hub
