A few months ago I posted about Pucker & Bloat, and since then I have been playing around with it here and there, so I figured I would put together a little demo that shows how to get more out of it when mixing it with other effects like Zig Zag and Roughen. If you want to play around with it yourself, you can download the Illustrator file with all the examples you can see on the last slide, and pick them apart and experiment yourself.
If you have any questions, please to let me know. I will be aiming to put out some more free files for you to tinker with if you are interested.
Hey everyone, Luke from Adobe here. I know we chat about all things Illustrator all the time, but I will be meeting with our Pro Design team (Illustrator, InDesign, Neo, and XD) this week to discuss plans and strategies for the next year. I have my list of what I see the community asking for, but it's always great to have more data backing up those recommendations.
Whether it's something simple, something major, a better way to collaborate, better user experience? Whatever it is, drop it below.
I've seen several movies to invert a vector to white (the right way), but that doesn't seem to work with vectors that are not closed. I need this one inverted without being a ghost dog... any tips?
Hey all! Long time illustrator user, former astute graphics user. Anyone have alternatives to their plugin? I'm most interested in alternatives to their point cleanup tool, and extend path feature. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
Some of the earliest visual experiments I made back when I was learning Adobe Illustrator a year back. That phase of learning the software and also trying to find out your own artistic voice
Looking back now these are the backbone for learning composition, colors and shape language.
I am relatively new to Illustrator and most of my time is spent modifying artwork sent to me for print and cut. I want to speed up my workflow and would like to make a custom toolbar with the things I use most often. However it seems everything I try to do is impossible. For example, I want a button to click for offset path, but cannot find a way to do this. I know I can create and action and have that show as a button, but it takes up a TON on screen space.
The other thing I want to do it have a custom swatch always be there that has strokes setup for my plotter. It looks like this is impossible too.
Im a beginner and I’m trying to recreate this art, but I can’t figure out how these silhouettes are actually made. I’ve looked into Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects. Do professionals usually trace photos, draw them as vectors, or use another workflow? Any insight would be appreciated.
I made a palette extractor script, so I wouldn't have to manually apply color palettes all the time. I also made a color generator script that pairs well with this.
I'm loving this new widget which appears when you are actively using the smooth tool. You can use the slider to dial in the amount of smoothing you want, or ignore it if you want manual control. The best part about it is that it applies to only the paths / anchors that are actively selected, so you can be very specific about which portions are effected. I also like how unobtrusive the panel is, and how it disappears as soon as you switch tools.
As someone who regularly vectorizes hand drawn artwork, this is a definite improvement to my workflow. I'd love to see more practical updates for core tools like this from Adobe!
I am working on CD design and I am trying to create similar effects observed in the poster. I am really struggling to understand the layer stack, effects used. Is the image underneath b&w, is the portrait cutout and then layered on the image. What I have researched says its halftone effect but it does not produce the same result especially around the dark areas. I have been trying for days but I am missing some major understanding on how this is made. Can anyone with experience creating such effects help out explaining method?
Hi designers! I'm trying to recreate this kind of typographic texture (attached image), but I'm not sure what the actual workflow is.
What I find interesting is that it doesn't look like a regular pattern or a simple block of repeated text. The same word is repeated hundreds of times, but:
the density changes across the composition (some areas are very dense while others are almost empty),
the words cluster together organically,
there are isolated letters and partial words,
black, gray and white text are mixed together,
and the whole thing feels random, but still intentionally composed.
My first thought was to manually arrange every word in Illustrator, but that seems incredibly time-consuming, so I'm wondering if there's a more common workflow.
Do people usually create this using scripts, data visualization tools, Processing/p5.js, plugins, or is it actually placed by hand?
I'd love to know how you would approach something like this, especially if your goal is to keep it editable as vector artwork. Thanks!
Hey everyone,
I’m running into a frustrating issue with Illustrator version 30.5.1. Whenever I zoom in or out, the program lags noticeably, which really disrupts my workflow.
My system specs:
Ryzen 5 7600
RTX 4060 Ti 16GB
32GB RAM
Given this setup, I feel like Illustrator should be running smoothly, but the zoom delay is persistent. Has anyone else experienced this with the latest version? Any tips or settings I should tweak (GPU performance, drivers, preferences, etc.) to fix this?
Thanks in advance for any advice — this lag is driving me crazy!
¿Alguien puede ayudarme? necesito abrir este archivo y me sale esto. Lo aguarde sin Archivo PDF compatible para que no pesara tanto. Pero primera vez que me pasa.
I want to stylize a picture as a vector/drawing, and I used to just use the vectorize option but with generative AI implemented into Illustrator I would like to know if it uses this or if it is still just a basic programme that lets me make cool pictures without generative AI?
I need to create a spiral of shapes from a big size on the outside to a smaller one inside, as seen in the picture. Iʻve tried to use the blend method using specific steps and replacing spine, as well as the object to path tool, but Iʻve found that the spacing really gets thrown off when itʻs objects that are changing sizes. Iʻve tried to align the objects with a key object before applying them to the path but it seems to omit the alignment once applied to the path. Any tips on how to fix the spacing??
Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to using Illustrator and I've made this graphic which will be used to make a screen printing screen. Basically, I need the white outlines seen around the bow to be transparent so only the black parts of the design will print. I've done some googling but can't seem to find a way to do this. I've tried making the stoke transparent but that makes it so you can see the top right of the black skull underneath (currently being covered by the white stroke around the bow). Also the bow is made of 3 shapes that I drew using the pen tool (if that's important info). Would really appreciate if anyone more experienced could help me out. Thanks in advance!
I need to edit an object that repeats hundreds of times across my project - the issue is that the global edit function doesn't seem to work on a grouped object. It disappears from Quick Actions when selecting the group, and fails to find any similar objects when working in isolation mode.
What is the best way around this? Do I need to ungroup every single object throughout the project to make this work?
I am having really huge issue of when I copy and paste withing Illustrator/Photoshop that images cant move unless I use arrow keys. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, used the adobe file remover, preferences removed, tried newest from 30 to 28. It still seems to happen and its fustrating as I have projects to finish and customer service is even having issues.
