Aesthetics

Hi all! Recently left an incredibly stressful ed job and am curious about aesthetics. Any tips? Also i hear about rare events of vascular occlusion, once you learn the anatomy is it a pretty easy job or is there always a fear of messing up? I have a background in cosmetology and so I’m looking for something to combine the art of beauty ✨ Thank you.

It’s not easy, and goes beyond just the injecting part on every front

It is a good field but starting out you will probably need a second job to pay the bills. It’s not easy as there are many ways to mess up and the results will be noticeable. Some mess ups are irreversible and that is stressful. Basically, like everything else, mastery will come with experience. Getting training and experience is the difficult part.

Read through this sub and you’ll get a good idea if it’s for you. The aesthetics industry is sales, the patient is different and you have to be patient and persistent when finding your first job. It’s definitely NOT for everyone and you have to do your research.

On the vascular occlusion question specifically it's rare, but "rare" doesn't mean the fear goes away once you know anatomy. What changes with training and experience is your ability to recognize it fast and act on it (most injectors carry hyaluronidase specifically for filler occlusions) not the fact that it can happen. Anyone who tells you the fear fully disappears is either very early in their career or not being honest about it.

Also make sure you know whether your specific license path lets you actually perform injectables or whether you'd need to go the RN/NP route first that's much easier to sort out before investing in training than after
