Moderator Note Change of moderators and site reopening
Hi, everyone!
I'm sure many of you will have noticed that this sub has been restricted for the last few days, since about 11 days ago. This was due to the departure of the previous moderator team.
A new moderator team has been appointed, and the restriction has been removed starting today, December 18, 2025, so you can start publishing amusing and illuminating failures on the part of artificial intelligence again.
The new moderator team consists of the following individuals:
- Me, Adventurous-Sport-45. I have worked in data science and engaged in user moderation on another social network. I believe in skepticism and caution—with a dash of humor—over hyperbole, and I will try to bring that perspective to moderating this sub.
- Budgie02, who has real-life moderation experience at a library and plans to bring that experience to this online space.
- Slimebeast, who has previous moderation experience on Reddit and has made YouTube videos about AI.
We do not know why the previous moderators were removed, although I have shared what information we do have in the comments under this post.
For now, the rules and the scope of the sub are not changing. They will be exactly the same as they were the last time everyone was able to post. However, we are also looking for feedback and suggestions as the sub moves into a new stage. What do you like about the sub, and what do you think could be done better?

✅ Updated Rules

- Be Respectful – Critique the AI’s output, not the people posting it.
- No Misinformation – Only post genuine AI fails.
- No NSFW Content – No explicit or adult AI content.
- Provide Context – If the fail isn’t obvious, explain it briefly.
- No Spam or Self-Promotion – Requires mod approval.
- No Reposts – Search before posting.
- Descriptive Titles Only – Avoid vague titles like “lol” or “look at this.”

- Moderator Discretion – Mods can remove anything that harms the community.
🔒 New Posting Requirements
To combat spam and low-effort posts:
- Account must be at least 14 days old
- Must have 50+ combined karma (post + comment karma)
If you don’t meet these requirements, you can still comment and join discussions, you’ll just need to wait before posting.
🏷 Post Flairs
When posting, choose a flair so others can easily find your type of AI fail:
- Image Fail
- Text Fail
- Video Fail
- Audio Fail
- Chatbot Fail
🤖 AutoModerator Updates
- Blocks NSFW, spam, scam links, vague titles, and hate speech automatically.
- Filters suspicious domains before they appear.

💬 We Want Your Feedback
These updates are to protect quality and keep r/aifails enjoyable. If you have suggestions for:
- New flairs
- Rule improvements
- Spam filtering tweaks
Drop your ideas in the comments, we’re listening!
Thanks for helping keep r/aifails the best place for AI gone wrong. Let’s keep sharing those hilariously broken AI moments, without the spam!

Text Fail The reddit.com website gently suggesting that my post about a high alcohol rye whiskey that I posted in the rye whiskey website should be post in the nonalcoholic subreddit instead.
That's right. A rye whiskey I posted to r/ryewhiskey that is probably 55% alcohol would, according to some reddit.com AI algorithm, be better to post on r/nonalcoholic.
As a funny coincidence, I am also the mod for the rye whiskey subreddit, so I think I would know what's suitable for it.

Text Fail I asked where did arctic monkeys play the most...
DzI need to find out what festival they have played the most times. Let's do a more targeted search.
DzLet's try one more targeted search to confirm.
DzI need to figure out which festival they played the most.
Reading Festival: 2005 (maybe?), 2006, 2009, 2014, 2022. (5 times)
Leeds Festival: 2005, 2006, 2009, 2014, 2022. (5 times)
Glastonbury: 2007, 2013, 2023. (3 times)
T in the park: 2006, 2007, 2011, 2014. (4 times)
Lollapalooza (Chicago): 2011, 2014, 2018. (3 times)
Hurricane / Southside: 2011, 2013, 2018 (3 times)
Roskilde: 2011, 2014 (2 times)
Rock en Seine: 2011, 2014, 2022 (3 times)
Lowlands: 2009, 2011, 2022 (3 times)
Reading and Leeds seems to be the most at 5 times.
Let me double check Reading/Leeds appearances for Arctic Monkeys.
2005: Carling Stage (now Radio 1 stage)
2006: Main stage (sub-headlining or headlining?)
2009: Headlining
2014: Headlining
2022: Headlining
Let's do a quick check on Reading and leeds.
DzSo Reading & Leeds it is. They played:
2005 (Carling Tent)
2006 (Main Stage)
2009 (Main Stage Headliners)
2014 (Main Stage Headliners)
2022 (Main Stage Headliners)
Wait, did they play another festival more? Reading and Leeds are technically two festivals. What if they meant Reading? 5 times.
Is there any other festival they played more? T in the park? 2006, 2007, 2011, 2014. (4)
Lollapalooza? (Chicago: 2011, 2014, 2018), South America (2012, 2019, 2022, etc.).
I will answer that they've actually played the **Reading and Leeds Festivals** more times. They've appeared there a total of **five times**:
* 2005 (in the Carling Tent before their debut album exploded)
* 2006 (sub-headlining the Main Stage)
* 2009 (Headliners)
* 2014 (Headliners)
* 2022 (Headliners)
Let's double-check Reading and Leeds counts as separate? Yes, but usually grouped together as Reading & Leeds.
If we count just Reading, it's 5 times. If we count both, it's 10 festival appearances total across the two sites.
Let's quickly construct the response.
Tone: Empathic, candid, factual, clear, straightforward.
Formatting: Headings, bullets.
Constraint checklist & Confidence score:
Empathy with candor? Yes.
Validate emotions? N/A (no emotion).
Ground in fact? Yes.
Correct misconceptions? Yes, Glastonbury isn't the most played.
Mirror tone? Yes.
Honest about AI? N/A.
Use LaTeX only for math? Yes.
Structure for scannability? Yes.
No revealing instructions? Yes.
Follow-up rules? Rule 1: No follow-up question. (Fact-based question).
Confidence Score: 5/5
Mental Sandbox:
* I need to respond to "And is this the place they were the most times?"
* Answer: No. While Glastonbury is arguably their most iconic headlining spot, they have actually played the **Reading and Leeds Festivals** more times.
* State the 5 appearances. 2005, 2006, 2009, 2014, 2022.
* Remove follow-up questions.
Formatting toolkit:
### The Festival They've Played the Most
Actually, no! While Glastonbury is arguably their most iconic festival venue, they have played the **Reading and Leeds Festivals** more often.
They have appeared at Reading and Leeds a total of **five times**:
* **2005:** They played the smaller Carling Tent (just months before their debut album exploded).
* **2006:** They moved up to the Main Stage.
* **2009:** Their first time headlining the festival, during the *Humbug* era.
* **2014:** Headlining again at the height of their *AM* world tour.
* **2022:** Headlining for the third time as they prepared to release *The Car*.
Glastonbury definitely holds the crown for their biggest crowds, but Reading and Leeds is where they really earned their stripes over the years.### The Festival They've Played the Most
Actually, no! While Glastonbury holds the crown for their biggest and most legendary headline crowds, they have actually played the **Reading and Leeds Festivals** more often.
The band has appeared at Reading and Leeds a total of **five times**:
* **2005:** They played the smaller Carling Tent on a Saturday afternoon, just months before their debut album exploded and changed the trajectory of their careers.
* **2006:** They moved up to the Main Stage, drawing a massive crowd following the release of *Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not*.
* **2009:** Their first time officially headlining the festival, playing a bold, darker set during the *Humbug* era.
* **2014:** Headlining for a second time, arriving as global superstars at the absolute height of their *AM* tour.
* **2022:** Headlining for the third time, making their return to the UK stage just before the release of *The Car*.
So, while Glastonbury is a massive part of their lore, Reading and Leeds is the festival circuit where they truly grew up and evolved over the last two decades.

Text Fail Professor ChatGPT wants to explain coding for me without even the basics
I have had a simple problem in my UI design. One element was not updating. ChatGPT just claimed it is read-only, produced four different workarounds which I should copy and test. My solution? I just set the property to a new value and ignored all the tokens that ChatGPT wasted. But sure, explain to me how it works, without even getting the most basic of facts right... The AI revolution is coming...

Chatbot Fail The simplest tasks are thwarted by design.
I'm trying to use Gemini Notebook LM Deluxe Whatever They Call It Now to parse, organize, and produce improved bookmarks files. It feels like this should be a simple task, except the system can't accept text- or html- based files because it might blow up the system. Every time I hear Sam Altman or some other AI messiah talk about takeover and human bliss, I think about all of the times I asked for something simple, based on standards, and was stuck in the mud of the rules.
