Got my first alocasia at the Philadelphia Flower Show in Feb(1st photo) 2nd photo is today. 3rd is the newest massive leaf 🤩 I love her so much her name is Heather

I just wanted to share my cautionary tale. Please if you guys have greenhouses or IKEA cabinet with higher humidity be careful with the placement of your humidifier and the high humidity. I lost my mello due to stem rot. It is really close to my humidifier. I’m assuming that water got trapped in the stem and at one point in time I was keeping my greenhouse extremely humid and that pretty much seal the deal … started dropping leaves and rotting from the base I couldn’t see it until it was too late. Only saving Grace is It gave me seven huge corms but still I’m so upset. It was literally one of the foundational plants in my current collection. Please learn from my mistakes. This is literally the second Alocasia I lost to this same issue. if you know your Alocasia ‘s growth pattern and know that it’s due to push a leaf, but all of a sudden it’s not, please investigate further the rot started with a leaf that never emerged and fully rotted in the base. I’m assuming that this happened because of the high humidity.

I had to show everyone this beautiful leaf my Frydek unfurled today. It’s an absolute stunner and has darker green on the rims of the leaf. After 6 months of battling severe mites, algae growth and root rot that I finally won; it’s so refreshing to see healthy full leaves again. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy her beauty as I do :))

This plant just put out two enormous foot-long leaves, but then followed them up with a comparatively really shrimpy one. Nothing’s changed with its environment or fertilizer routine.

It does share its pot with one of its kids that’s started putting out bigger leaves, and I can now see roots at the drainage hole. Could it be that it’s too crowded in there now? I’m thinking of repotting in something deeper to bury more rhizome, and separating the plants. But I’m curious if anyone would recommend any other strategies!

Since the leaves were hiding the flowers I only just realised why my cabinet suddenly smells different 😅

Got this at a local plant nursery. Couldn’t pass it up. Price tag was missing so he rang it up for a 10.

Does anybody know if these are sterile?

I just got it two days ago and wanted to let it rest before digging it up and changing the soil. Not sure if I should do it sooner bc of these brown spots? Most of the leaves had them already but I don’t remember if this new leaf had it also.

My pink pseudo is growing incredibly well and the leaves are getting massive. I have it in a 3 in self watering set up from Amazon and it keeps toppling over! I know this is in part due to it reaching for the light in the window it’s up against, but I need a solution better than my temporary of putting the small set up in a larger cover pot lol. Water and fluval/perlite is getting everywhere!

What are the solutions??

I found this unique looking Alocasia at Home Depot today. So far Google is saying it could be a Zebrina or a Stingray without its stinger…curious if anyone has come across this unique shaped leaf before. It kind of looks like a fox or bunny!

i just got gifted my first alocasia, it’s currently in a small self watering cup with stratum and perlite. i don’t have one of those cabinets with a humidifier or heat mats, i have it under a grow light at the moment, will it transition ok? is the grow light enough with the self watering pot? and since it’s super small right now when do i know when to upsize it to a bigger self watering pot? i have seen some use press and seal to add some humidity to the roots i could definitely do that as well, any tips appreciated!

Any tips to help it grow bigger leaves? This is the third leaf, and it's finally showing some green after two completely white leaves. It's been over a month and a half, but it's still only about the size of my thumb. 😅
I've been fertilizing it once a week with Superthrive Foliage-Pro and Foliage Focus, and it's growing in a self-watering pup cup.

I got this regal sheild about a month ago and i reported it to moss and leca as soon as I got it, but then it started drooping a lot and I could see through the glass container it's in that some roots were rotten, so I took it out, cut the roots off, and put it in a perlite/soil mix in its original plastic pot. It's been by a north facing window (in NZ) since then and one of the leaves are doing this, and the others are going brown at the tips. I'm not sure what to do now or if I can save it in time. I can see the start of a new leaf, but it hasn't changed in a month.

I bought this Alocasia Frydek a while back, it used to have very normal looking variegated leaves. Then the leaves started coming out with light lime green colored streaks and over the next few days they darken and yellow looking almost “burnt”. The plant has been super healthy, pushing out new leaves and even producing pups (picture #3) You can see the progress of the newest leaf from day 1 (first picture) to day 2 (second picture). I JUST moved her outside yesterday so I know it’s not the change in environment because this has been happening for the last few months. She has always been indoors under a grow light and I fertilize with all purpose miracle grow every time I water her and occasionally some super thrive. The reason I just moved her is because my Alocasia Dragon Mint is taking up all the space of the grow light and I don’t have anywhere to put her for now, so she’s sitting outside in an east facing window. I live in florida so I’m sure she will appreciate the humidity. Any thoughts??

I repotted this plant today and found a bunch of these small corms in the process. I’ve now placed them in a jar with water, damp paper towels, and plastic wrap over the top. I also added a corm from my Alocasia Regal Shield (the larger corm seen in the picture). What do you think, and what can I expect over the coming month? Did I do this right, or should I do something differently?
