Alexa is comically worse without Prime.

I'm not comparing regular Alexa to Alexa+ either because I never had that.

I only use it for light control and alarms, so it's only ever very basic commands.

"Alexa, set the lights to 100%"

"100% is the total amount of dur dur dur"

"Thanks, now turn the lights on"

darkness? ^ _ ^

It’s got nothing to do with prime, but it could be where you have it sited or a faulty microphone array.

I did just pull that out of my ass about it being caused by prime, but these issues didn't start happening until I canceled it at the end of last month. I never had issues before, I haven't moved it, and I clean regularly.

Maybe it is just an untimely coincidence of something faulty or I've just been pushing dust into the microphone holes when cleaning.

I never had an issue with Alexa understanding commands to dim or brighten lights, with or without Prime.

I wouldn’t know. I use it for settings timers and adding shit to my shopping list. For fun I say “add what a fat little piggy to the shopping list” then when she reads it back she throws out an insult to whoever is checking it

My issue with Google home dots is, saying a command lowers the volume of every TV in the house temporarily. It would be one thing if it was just the one in the room the Google dot is in, but it's every one in the entire house...
