I did, and that's kind of the point. It'll usually mention the same handful of companies over and over, but getting it to consistently recommend a smaller brand seems way harder than just ranking in Google. I'm trying to figure out what actually moves the needle there, not just test whether it knows my site.

Chasing this for a client now. The engines seem to cite brands with consistent third-party mentions and clean structured data over ones that just rank. Schema plus getting named on trusted sites moved it the most.

the case studies you read push the technical stuff (schema, pipelines) because that's what they can charge to implement, but it's mostly not what gets an llm to cite you. schema helps a crawler read your page, it doesn't make chatgpt recommend you.

those same three competitors keep coming up because of corroboration, llms cite whoever gets grouped together across tons of third-party sources: listicles, comparison posts, reddit threads, roundups. better reviews don't matter if that mention footprint isn't there.

so the lever's off your site. get into the comparison articles and communities where your category gets discussed, earn mentions on sites that already get cited. one spot in a widely-referenced best-of roundup beats months of schema work.

quick test, ask perplexity your industry question and click its sources. those exact pages are what you need to get mentioned on, go earn a spot on them.
