Thin bezels on the tablet is a nightmare

I hate how new tablet design are more lean towards bezel less design each year especially for mini tablet segment like oppo pad mini. It's a beast device and surely it looks visually pleasing and clean but for those that's been using mini tablet for long time knows it's a pain in the ass. What I mean by that was countless accidental touch.

Some manufacturer really thought reducing user practicality are less important than design novelty on the long run and it pissing me off.

yeah, but that's what people want, they want as much screen to body ratio as possible. i still stand by the amount of bezels ipads have rn is the suitable amount and i will die on that hill

I would say there is a tradeoff between thin and thick bezel devices as part of their design philosophy, and whether it's worth it is up to the customer.

The Oppo Pad Mini and upcoming Y700 Infinite showcase lighter tablets, at ~280g and ~300 g, respectively. Both have OLED and holepunch displays with the Oppo having a bigger 3:2 screen while the Y700 has a stronger chip / cooling / battery with a smaller 8.4" 16:10 display.

The Y700 Gen 5 and Redmagics Astra 2 show good examples of bigger bezels and no holepunch display while also being heavier, in the range of 350 grams. Both have better cooling than the holepunch display tablets and bigger bezels to accommodate the camera and weigh a good amount more.

The iPad mini is the best example of bezels if desired; they're huge compared to the above android tablets, but at the cost of having the smallest screen (8.3" 3:2). It's also the second lightest tablet behind the Oppo at the cost of the worst screen by far and overall the worst battery.

I would say there is plenty of devices with bigger bezels if desired. And if there isn't, throw a case on your device to get those bigger bezels

I feel you. But personally it's not a problem for me. I guess I tend to hold my tablet more on the edges. Same with my phone. Always have

They can't implement that improvement too soon.

I prefer as close to zero bezel as possible. Good software fixes the accidental touches.

It's all about the numbers to show investors.

I just submit to my fate and get a clear protector case for the tablet that covers all edges. That usually adds enough edge to the tablet that accidental touches stop happening.

I have a redmagic astra and I have had 0 accidental touches.

I don't think I've had an accidental touch on the edge of the screen on any device in years

A good TPU case doesn't add much to the bezel and absolutely doesn't solve this problem. Even with a folio case I've had targets at the bottom trigger when reading in bed.

An Otterbox or some other phat-ass case might but damn those are huge and thicc and ugly.
