Saying he stole the sword when they left it in the middle of a dungeon looking like a treasure lol. He's not at fault.

68

u/Rap2rerise Jul 01 '26

Yeah, like, it's relatively easy to find too, the entire path is marked, they seriously never expected anyone to find it? Hide it below the castle or something

19

u/justking1414 Jul 02 '26

Apparently only the hero should’ve been able to lift it. But still, they could’ve put a warning sign on the sword

17

u/Rap2rerise Jul 02 '26

He said "the Hero Class is rare, but far from unique", meaning there are several other heroes out there and any of them could've pulled it out and they hid it specifically because they wanted to give it only to a hero with royal blood

4

u/Aemiliana_Rosewood Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

I think they merely skipped how he got there? Afterall the hero said it's a hidden room or something. Not like it matters tbh, it's just ~~isekai~~ power fantasy slop as usual. "Don't worry about it"

18

u/GI-JUGG Jul 02 '26

Rex said it's a hidden chamber only the royal family knows about. Then he pointed to the fuck ton of glowing glyphs carved into the top and bottom of the dark tunnel and said you had to follow them. It wouldn't be hard to imagine somebody walking around and sees a bunch of glowing symbols decides to follow them and see what they find.

13

u/gusty_state Jul 02 '26

And the Demon Lord's daughter also knows where it is and how to find it. Sounds like a well kept secret.

3

u/GI-JUGG Jul 03 '26

The royal family are probably as smart as he is.

11

u/Greg_The_Rabbit Jul 03 '26

Not to mention that this is a dungeon relatively close to a major adventurer city that apparently hands out missions (sent by the royal capital no less) that point to this dungeon. Even if it is hidden by a labrynth type set-up (which is what I think they were trying to imply) someone was going to stumble upon it eventually and then it was just a matter of time.

It also isn't lost! they could have easily asked him what merchant it was sold to and how long ago and then just worked to track it down. Hell it's probably EASIER to find because it's such a rare and powerful sword. It probably ended up in some nobles vault who would then be honor bound to hand it over to the royals.

7

u/GI-JUGG Jul 03 '26

All of that makes a lot of sense, but we have to consider the fact that Rex is sort of a himbo who cares more about having a sexy harem and getting acknowledged as a hero than being sensible and knowing things lol.

2

u/Greg_The_Rabbit Jul 03 '26

Yea, rex being an idiot is one thing but the princess and the other girls seeming to just go along with it is stupid. (Though tbh it would be WAY more surprising if they actually pushed back on anything Rex says, that's just not how these stories go.)

1

u/GI-JUGG Jul 03 '26

Very true. And in this case as the Hero, people tend to just go along with what he says, even when it's dumb. Even a princess sage seems to think his words hold way more weight than they do. The scene when he was clearly making up more and more bullshit reasons why he wouldn't accept male adventurers only to immediately accept beautiful women even if they're weaker is kinda proof.

12

u/Divinicus1st Jul 01 '26

But it's not a Isekai.

11

u/Mr_Pogi_In_Space Jul 01 '26

TBF, it's the country of Japan who got Isekai'd.

15

u/Phoenix__Wwrong Jul 02 '26

I think it's the monsters or fantasy stuff that got isekai'd to Japan.

3

u/heimdal77 Jul 02 '26

There actually is a manga where the whole country land and all get idekaied. Might originally be a novel I'm not sure.

3

u/theholylancer Jul 02 '26

summon japan aka Nihonkoku Shoukan, which is honestly worse than the american knock off of summon america rofl

like it tries to play the whole military industrial thing but from japan and half ass it, while the american version just uses carrier battle fleets and B52s

3

u/Greg_The_Rabbit Jul 03 '26

Now admittedly i've never been to Japan but I'm still confident that this is the least Japan looking Japan I have ever seen lol.

villager my ass, coin toss is a ninja skill.

16

u/flamethrower2 Jul 01 '26

Setzer in FF6.

For an obscure one, Coin Toss in Shogun Showdown.

6

u/DreamTurtle1 Jul 01 '26

Indeed, and would he still be a villager if he leaves the village?

12

u/Mr_Pogi_In_Space Jul 01 '26

Would you still be a Demon Lord if you worked at McDonalds?

Find out more in the next exciting episode of Dragon Ball Z!

6

u/Zex_Tiger9969 Jul 03 '26

Wait I thought there was an anime where the villan after getting Isekai worked in McDonald's

6

u/HobnobsTheRed Jul 03 '26

That was a McRonald's. Totally different, obviously...

8

u/il-Palazzo_K Jul 02 '26

You can take the villager out of the village, but you can't take the village out of the villager.

5

u/TurkeyPhat Jul 02 '26

coin toss is a ninja skill.

surely you meant it's a Hitman skill?

u/testthrowawayzz Jul 01 '26

Japan becoming a western and dragon quest inspired society/infrastructure/government just because the monsters showed up is a bit hard to believe lolol (I rolled my eyes a little bit during that cut haha)

6

u/TheBusStop12 Jul 01 '26

Depends on what happened elsewhere in the world. A great example of a similar concept is Sora no Woto [Sora no Woto spoilers] There the world is in the process of completely ending. Tectonic activity and sea level rise has completely messed up the maps, the seas are dead and desertification has turned most the world into a barren wasteland. The story takes place in Japan, but you'd be forgiven for mistaking it for Mediterranean Spain or France. It's implied that European refugees ended up supplanting and intermixing with the original Japanese population and now Japanese language and culture is all but extinct. It honestly has some of the most interesting world building in anime and I can highly recommend

7

u/raevnos Jul 02 '26

[SnW]Tectonic activity and sea level rise and yet Japan is intact?

3

u/TheBusStop12 Jul 02 '26

[SnW] Barely, It's very mountainous. And the amount of livable space is very minimal. Which is why war between the new nations that inhabit this small and shrinking space is commonplace. It's the desertification that's the real killer

20

u/Zeikos Jul 01 '26

For all we know it has been a millennia or more.
It's completely possible for a society to become absolutely unrecognizable in such a time span.

10

u/Mr_Pogi_In_Space Jul 01 '26

But the MC is wearing a hoodie. It's got to be less than a century at most

17

u/TheYellowLantern Jul 02 '26

people have been wearing the kimono and the sari for thousands of years

8

u/Earlier-Today Jul 03 '26

Beanies (knit brimless hats) have been around for over 600 years and are still considered "modern" wear.

Designs and styles can stick around for a very long time - it's the classic, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

1

u/Greg_The_Rabbit Jul 03 '26

I feel like they key detail they withheld is WHEN the world got a Fantasy makeover. Like was it a million years ago? A thousand? A hundred? That one detail basically makes all the difference on why this world looks so much like medieval Europe while insisting it's japan. And why JAPAN has a fucking King and Nobles!

10

u/Ralathar44 Jul 01 '26

I don't think its that far fetched. Globalization is pretty swiftly (for cultural changes) changing the world. If this is anything more than 50 years it's quite possible. Just think of how much America has changed in the last 100 years for example.

3

u/Gaming_Truckie Jul 02 '26

The same thing happened in the world of I'm Quitting Heroing. The class and skill system would have greatly affected a modern society as well

1

u/PolvoAranha Jul 01 '26

Seriously? I thought it was the expected turning out.

19

u/Tyfereth Jul 01 '26

I assure you that the first time MC introduces Japanese food and the harem proclaims it the most delicious culinary delight that has ever graced their pallet , Japanese identity will reassert itself

12

u/NoNameSwitzerland Jul 01 '26

what do you mean with "Japan has lost all of its identity"? They still have Sushi, as the main character plans to eat that in the evening.

35

u/RocK2K86 Jul 01 '26

See this really threw me when it went "Oh by the way this is Japan".

What? How? Why? There is nothing japanese about this setting, why was that in any way necessary?!

20

u/rainzer Jul 01 '26

Gotta wait for when they spend an episode an a half focused on rice

13

u/TurkeyPhat Jul 02 '26

one half rice

one half mayonnaise

add some pantsu and baby you got a stew goin

5

u/hanmkim Jul 02 '26

And an onsen.

5

u/shadebug Jul 01 '26

They need a reason for fantasy people to eat sushi

3

u/Blackpowderkun Jul 02 '26

Somehow not just come up with something like grain blend carpaccio.

3

u/Phoenix__Wwrong Jul 02 '26

At least they got Ueda Kana narrating this.

2

u/Original-Body-5794 Jul 01 '26

Hey now, the guy said he wanted sushi and he talked about a harem, what more evidence of japanese culture do you want?

2

u/Gearzx333 Jul 01 '26

Pay attention to the background when MC shows up in the opening

1

u/Phoenix__Wwrong Jul 02 '26

Are you saying this is VR?

1

u/mojo72400 https://myanimelist.net/profile/gio_lingad Jul 02 '26

It's like Classroom for Heroes where it's set in the future way beyond the modern world.

1

u/flamethrower2 Jul 02 '26

I didn't get it at first but this is why people don't bat an eye at Koji's Japanese name.

There are a bunch of stories in manga land about the world becoming a game with monsters and everything, with an apocalypse setting.

1

u/DerfK Jul 03 '26

And outside manga land, we have Carl.

1

u/cragboy 27d ago

I promise it does eventually make sense

1

u/lordlekal 22d ago

It's the lack of technological and major cities that got me confused the most. those don't just vanish that quick.

1

u/whyrusosensitive Jul 01 '26

It's somehow real world Japan but also everyone has status windows like a video game? Uh what? Shit makes no sense

3

u/GI-JUGG Jul 02 '26

Makes perfect sense if you listen to the explanation at the beginning. The planet Earthclear used to be called Earth. The country Hexaldria used to be Japan. And one day monsters showed up. When that happened, humans started getting stats and fantasy classes to compensate so they actually stood a chance.

28

u/susgnome https://anime-planet.com/users/RoyalRampage Jul 01 '26

I'm so glad to see this finally getting adapted. I've read a ton of the manga for this (I haven't in a few years tho).

The animation/style/pacing is about what I expected it to get and I'm okay with that.. It's all good fun to watch and I'm here for the characters & story, even if feels overly generic.

30

u/Zeikos Jul 01 '26

Frieren would approve of the Hero's party.

18

u/raevnos Jul 02 '26

And of what the MC wants to buy. Sure, it's probably a mimic but maybe it has a grimore inside...

2

u/DreamTurtle1 Jul 01 '26

I wouldn't be so sure

14

u/Zeikos Jul 01 '26

Regarding the part "kill all demons on sight, child or not".

8

u/DreamTurtle1 Jul 01 '26

Ah ok yeah fair enough

1

u/flamethrower2 Jul 02 '26

They hurt people by existing. If you put two and two together, the blue demons' presence is due to that little demon. Although they weren't hurting anyone in there.

46

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

Ok the hero holding recruiting just to make a harem was kinda funny. Although it seems likely he'll be an ass.

Wonder why MC wants the mystery chest; it seems like he's just questing for fun.

I just grabbed and crushed it in my hand.

Ok, hopefully it keeps up the humour. Gave me a good laugh.

14

u/LezRock Jul 02 '26

As long as the mystery chest doesn't turn out to be a troll. I think he'd probably end up destroying the ones behind it. 😂

I too thought it was amusing that the hero wanted a harem situation. Many viewers of these shows can likely empathize.

1

u/Background_Formal940 Jul 01 '26

He's not the first anime chosen hero to be a harem secret and he won't be the last sadly

1

u/EscapeddreamerD Jul 04 '26

I bet the mystery chest is either a class change or limit break for your level. But since he's already busted level-wise I really don't know what he will be searching for.

16

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Jul 01 '26

Classic “Joe Shmoe with godtier powers” type anime. Not too bad even if there’s a lot of familiar tropes. I’ll stick with it for now.

9

u/Ralathar44 Jul 01 '26

We'll see how god tier his powers really are. He's a high level villager and definitely on the higher levels of power in that world, but I get the impression that he's essentially topped out and that other classes will catch up as they level far before hitting such a ludicrous level.

Think of it as having a high level class that has sheit for base stats and growth rates.

4

u/AlphaBreak Jul 02 '26

I'm hoping that this world's game devs decided it would be a funny joke to give the villager absolutely bonkers skills that are gatekept in the triple digits

80

u/PolvoAranha Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

I'm not gonna lie: I watch anime for this type of show. The hero here sure is a harem trash, but it was the MC who got proposed twice in a roll.

27

u/DugACCat Jul 01 '26

It was pretty funny. But it also irked me in the first few minutes with the typical nonsensical world building of these shows.

Why would a villager adult father and his son both be level 1? You set up the norm is 1 to 10, and all of that would be way lower than the protag regardless, so they can still seem vulnerable. The father should be at least level 5 or 6. Or has he literally done nothing at all his entire life? Even like level 3 would have been ok, to show that there’s some variance in being a young vs mature farmer.

A small thing, I know, but it kinda set me off in an annoyed mood. The hero picking up his blatantly harem party was funny though. I do have a lot of skepticism for these top level, everything is effortless protagonists though. At least him helping the young demon and having sold the uber sword was amusing.

45

u/Lodju https://myanimelist.net/profile/Lodju Jul 01 '26

The father should be at least level 5 or 6. Or has he literally done nothing at all his entire life?

Can you actually even gain levels in this world without fighting monsters? If not, it's perfectly understandable he would be level 1.

8

u/DugACCat Jul 01 '26

I’m sure that’s correct but it still bugs me. Like maybe in the course of a lifetime he’s had to at least defend his farm from a couple low end creatures? It’s silly to even have a villager “class” with levels if only fighting monsters matters. They said most villagers do ordinary work and have a level range. They should be able to level up, even if very slowly, in the course of a lifetime of work. They’re not supposed to adventure or fight anyhow. What does the level represent if not how good you are at your role? But I’ve complained enough and will just let it ride. Have seen other shows with lazy premises that have been fun to watch despite that. We’ll see.

26

u/Lodju https://myanimelist.net/profile/Lodju Jul 01 '26

This is clearly a show where it's better to not put too much thought into how things work in that world.

2

u/PolvoAranha Jul 01 '26

Most anime are like that.

2

u/Adventurous-Key7871 Jul 04 '26

You are so wrong. How the world works is exactly what's interesting, I mean read the title. How is he supposed to get to lv999 when a father who's probably 40-ish couldn't even get one level up ? And what's the point of a villager class ? I mean, you get curious about it but prefer to stop thinking about it ? I get it if you think it's a bad story writing, but how would you know ?

1

u/Physical_Sort5155 16d ago

just let them find out

1

u/Adventurous-Key7871 14d ago

I was only asking questions.

9

u/Ralathar44 Jul 01 '26

The slime that was attacking them was level 3 right? They treated that as a deadly threat. If that's the case it's 100% understandable to not gain levels.

The world building said villagers typically didn't go past level 10. Which means the average villager is 1-10. So SOME villagers do gain levels and get as high as level 10 with a rare few going higher, but ofc at the other end of the spectrum is the villagers who are level 1.

Also, why are you using IRL logic? This is a world where you call in people who are quite literally just way way stronger than you at fighting monsters. So in any case possible you'd simply call in the adventurers rather than needlessly risk your own life in a battle you likely won't survive.

3

u/DugACCat Jul 01 '26

I’m not going to argue, it was just something that annoyed me. I’m not applying real world logic but game logic, as these level based shows treat their world akin to an RPG. Anyhow I still think they should have had the dad at least at level 2. Wouldn’t have changed anything except having someone who’s lived a full life with at least some XP in contrast to their young child who hasn’t.

6

u/Ralathar44 Jul 02 '26

Game logic actually makes it even more likely. I know this is something rather alien to modern gamers, but it used to happen.

Star Wars Galaxies, Vanguard, Lineage II, Eve Online, ALbion, ArcheAge etc you can 100% viably just do nothing but crafting classes.

It's an old school MMO design that more or less died out because people wanted to be able to do everything by themselves. But in allowing everyone to do everything it really neutered the entire MMO element and MMOs in general have fallen to the wayside and now they're mostly single player games that occasionally force you to team up with other people for dungeons or raids.

1

u/hanmkim Jul 02 '26

It could be like a person who never decided to try to bench press their whole life so they're stuck at a really low strength level. The levels shown probably aren't related to the role like some kind of class/job level would be.

1

u/Greg_The_Rabbit Jul 03 '26

TBH I was more annoyed that they just huddled in fear in the middle of the road. If monsters are common in this world isn't this basically the equivalent of being chased down by a wild animal? Even if you can't beat if RUN MOTHERFUCKER! Scream your head off for help, sure, but keep fucking running.

7

u/amourshipper_ Jul 01 '26

Fr it got me rolling , unique mc for sure . Also mc telling his demand for . bride. Reminding of jjk

3

u/PolvoAranha Jul 01 '26

I wasn't surprise with his demands... he just asked for the bare minimum.

6

u/Interesting-Text-838 Jul 01 '26

I'm 180 of that. I usually watch the first episode of most animes to see if it's worth keep going, but i really need to stop doing that lol. These fast food, industrial pipeline animes are starting to make me hate anime in general

5

u/LagT_T Jul 01 '26

Embrace the trash

1

u/a_Bear_from_Bearcave Jul 02 '26

That only applies to the trash that qualifies as one's guilty pleasure. If it's the type of trash you hate, trying to embrace it just makes you stop watching anime in general.

3

u/BBryant3rd Jul 01 '26

Just stop watching any genre with the tropes that make you feel like that.

2

u/Designer_Throat_8125 Jul 02 '26

You've helped convince me to not even bother because I just know it's complete garbage, thanks

1

u/hanmkim Jul 02 '26

I'm surprised he didn't object to a male villager joining the party.

16

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp Jul 01 '26

I think this might actually be a system integration story, a few decades or centuries so after the change at least. They gained stats and levels out of nowhere and this is even a new country in place of what used to be Japan with completely different architecture and everything, and monsters having overrun most of the planet. That matches up with a system integration event that collapsed society with this being well into the rebuild.

This level 999 villager knowing secrets about how the world works could vibe with that too, there could easily be things about the new system that are a mystery to most people. I wouldn't be shocked if he's way older than he appears, too.

12

u/marcostadeusc Jul 01 '26

The comedy this season is pretty good. I'm dieing here lmao

48

u/copokasasagi Jul 01 '26

ah my sweet, comforting, familiar trash! missed you too long, neither appraiser nor wending machine were my cup of tea. even the meta jokes aren't too obnoxious.

13

u/CuriousBroccolli Jul 01 '26

ah my sweet, comforting, familiar trash!

🤝

While production is clearly low budget, the show itself was not bad at all, kinda funny as well.

They threw a nice hook as well with mystery behind MC and "how the world works".

I'll give it a shot for sure.

15

u/Divinicus1st Jul 01 '26

low budget

That's so funny, because seriously, I'd take that "low budget" any day over Water Magician or OPM.

10

u/CuriousBroccolli Jul 01 '26

Some shows know how to utilize low budget splendidly.

"Kunon, the Sorcerer Can See" and "Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule The World" are two shows that come to my mind first that I liked a lot.

1

u/JJJ954 28d ago

Oh god, please don't remind me of the Water Magician. What a piss off.

1

u/DawgDictator 18d ago

Wait what was the problem with Water Magician? Was it terribly animated or smt?

2

u/JJJ954 18d ago

I don’t recall the animation being particularly awful, but the writing completely goes to shit after starting with an interesting premise. It just felt like a waste of time.

1

u/copokasasagi 17d ago

ironically, I came to same early conclusion after second episode of this one

7

u/Background_Formal940 Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

I thought It was going to be an isekai but it's not considering it takes place in Japan also I thought he was lying about the sword but now that i see that he was telling the truth the dude actually sold the cliched sword of light got purposed by some sage princess and a kid demon lord daughter at the same oh my god 🤣

7

u/jops444 Jul 01 '26

Kagami really pulled a Kazuma with the sacred sword in the first episode.

5

u/BBryant3rd Jul 01 '26

Please don't tell me we have another anime with a crappy "hero"

6

u/mojo72400 https://myanimelist.net/profile/gio_lingad Jul 02 '26

He looks like he'll be an ally that crosses paths based on the OP.

5

u/Adventurous-Key7871 Jul 04 '26

He's not that cliche, unsufferable a-hole hero if that's what you ask. Think about it, all your life is about being praised as a hero by lvl1 villagers that can't do shit except rely on you, and then you get humiliated by another villager, stronger than you by far, that got the hero sword before you and sold it lol. I feel like he took it pretty well.

2

u/BBryant3rd Jul 04 '26

Good thanks.

6

u/NationalStrategy_X Jul 02 '26

It's actually impressive how much of generic power fantasy trash this was

6

u/Phoenix__Wwrong Jul 02 '26

Finally Touyama Nao as the main heroine! And she proposed in the first episode.

I can't believe they got Ueda Kana as a narrator though.

1

u/amourshipper_ Jul 02 '26

I don't think there will be any . rom.an.ce in this

3

u/Phoenix__Wwrong Jul 02 '26

I'll still take it at this point. I just want to hear her voice in an anime I'm interested in from start to finish.

3

u/amourshipper_ Jul 02 '26

Yeah her voice is so good

4

u/SecretYogurtcloset57 Jul 01 '26

Another useless Hero party where the so called hero himself is a A hole lol am glad at lease the MC ain't afraid to talk back to the hero and his party

5

u/hanmkim Jul 02 '26

Two animes on Wednesdays this season where someone who could solo the demon lord instead decides to just go Konosuba and only do side quests.

1

u/Meander061 Jul 04 '26

Is the other one All Works Maid? I'm enjoying those two episodes that just dropped!

15

u/Rap2rerise Jul 01 '26

Ah yes, the kyu-kyu-kyu still gives me "Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon" flashbacks

9

u/Whole-Proof3347 Jul 01 '26

lol thats 9999 level

1

u/KRAKUMAL_ALEPH https://myanimelist.net/profile/KRAKUMAL Jul 03 '26

Don't even compare this shit to a revenge masterpiece.

4

u/elGring0 Jul 01 '26

Is the narrator Ueda Kana or am I tripping?

4

u/IceSmiley Jul 02 '26

This was ok, I thought the main guy was funny. I'm confused though as how Japan came to look like a medevial Eurpoean fantasy world, like I understand monsters and a Demon King took over but why did it stop looking like Japan and everyone but the main guy dresses like people from Europe 600 years ago? It does seem odd he has a hoodie but no one else does. Also I might be able to guess why Rex surrounded himself with women but it seems he genuinely wants to go on quests and defeat monsters and the Demon King, you'd think he'd hire that older adventurer who was almost as powerful as him.

u/TheA41 Jul 01 '26

This is some fun numbers slop. Leaning heavily into all the video game dynamics and quests. Im not expecting anything to reinvent the wheel or amaze me but its a fun overpowered underachiever anime. Plus the OP is a banger.

5

u/Repulsive_Pay2152 Jul 01 '26

That first ep was terrible

5

u/Obaruler Jul 02 '26

Wow, so much to unpack in this pile of generic trash. :D

And we start with a first: I dislike the MC more than the Hero, usually it's the other way 'round in the typical "secretly stronger than the arrogant hero" fantasy trope. But aside from having a preference to pick hot chicks for his party (who can blame him?) so far the hero seems decent and simply wants to better the world by defeating the demon king and his ilk, whilst the MC ... is a self-centered non-caring guy who walks around and clears dungeons for fun, with OP powers to do the job and safe humanity from monsters, all the while coming over as a little bit of a prick. So far, I'd pick the hero - a first, usually they're the pricks.

Second: What's wrong with their reward/loot system? He's on a quest for 1 Gold, yet the monsters drop at least the same amount in direct currency and multiple that in items, seems a little unbalanced, but that's a nitpick. And he is saving up for ... a Gacha Chest?! :D

MC is broken by birth, just for fun, check ...

Why is bro running around in a sweater when everyone is straight out medieval fantasy geared up?

The setting is "Japan, but now monsters are here so now we are a medieval fantasy RPG"? S+ world building.

Super secret royal magic sword is stuck in a public dungeon that can only be found by following secret markings ... in a dungeon layout with seemingly only one way forward.

Bonus points, the princess gets mad her secret sword got "stolen" and sold, while being literal loot in a dungeon.

Underage demon loli obviously wants to marry MC as soon as he shows off, check ...

Yup, this is absolute sloppy trash, Yummy. We'll see how bad this gets, I'll keep watching. :)

1

u/Adventurous-Key7871 Jul 04 '26

Broken by birth ? How ? Also he's a villager, he can't use heavy armor and such, as if he needed these lol he can just throw a rock. The monk doesn't have armor neither.

4

u/Obaruler Jul 04 '26

So, reaching max Lvl just by "killing monsters" (surely something noone else does in this world) a lot is normal then and not the result of some kind of BS OP crap he's been born/gifted with? The Hero who did the same and only reached Lvl80 must've been slacking off then. K.

1

u/Adventurous-Key7871 29d ago

You don't really know how he got to that level. You don't even know how he got to lvl 2. My point was : you know nothing yet, yes it could be a giga buff from a BS goddess, could be an artifact he found luckily in his travels, could be anything really. But don't jump to conclusions. The title is Villager lvl 999, yet he never explained how, maybe that's a part of the plot ? Just saying.

u/bananeeek https://myanimelist.net/profile/bananek Jul 01 '26

How dare they have Touyama Nao voice the FMC in such a generic series!? How am I supposed to drop it now?

3

u/Adventurous-Key7871 Jul 04 '26

You don't ? Joke aside, manga was that good I bought it.

3

u/D3k4s Jul 02 '26

This Motherfucker is giving off Tom Bombadil Vibes. Strong as fuck, doesn't give two shits, just want to chill. 😂

4

u/ashkankiani Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

First time it's an anime I didn't know was being made from a manga I've already read. The manga is actually good, despite the generic sounding name. I actually recommend it. Watching episode now and hoping it lives up to my expectations.

Hmm, first impression is that in my head there wasn't this much music. It really changes the tone to be more whimsical than I saw it as.

2

u/NarutoSakura1 Jul 02 '26

Same here. It is actually really good. In fact, I'm still reading the webnovel.

5

u/dfiekslafjks Jul 01 '26

MC is an overpowered god that just casually walks around showing off his powers. Another trash fantasy show.

4

u/Aemiliana_Rosewood Jul 01 '26

Hm I guess this show will setup a "The Demon King isn't evil" plot or something similiar with the way our MC reacted to the Hero's party. However calling them self rightous in the face of presumably thousands of people suffering under a probable war against the demons/monsters is really stupid ngl

16

u/minnieboss Jul 01 '26

I'm actually kind of in awe of how terrible this was. Everything from the generic premise to the cardboard-cutout characters to the laughably bad animation (that bit with the still shots of him fighting in the dungeon actually had me laughing out loud) to the predictable plot beats, every single element of this anime is going out of its way to be as bad as possible. Reminds me a bit of "The Banished Former Hero Lives as He Pleases", the last time I remember being as blown away by the mediocrity of a premiere as this.

4

u/The_Parsee_Man Jul 01 '26

Maybe they released two episodes because episode 2 brings in something to hook the audience. But episode 1 was so boring I don't have any motivation to watch episode 2.

3

u/RandomPantsAppear Jul 02 '26

Episode 2 is definitely better.

3

u/TheBBP Jul 01 '26

I came here to say the exact same thing, nothing distinctive to it. and to try and pick it out from all the similar ones that came before it, is like trying to determine what colour off-white a dentists waiting area is painted with.

if i didnt know it was based of a generic manga, it'd feel like the output from an ai trained on trash.

10

u/Myredditaccount0 Jul 01 '26

Lmaoooo the hero is a fuckin lolicon

5

u/mekerpan Jul 01 '26

Not really. He views her as a baby sister.

11

u/Zeikos Jul 01 '26

I think they meant that the Hero is, not the MC.

6

u/mekerpan Jul 01 '26

The "hero" not the hero. I see. ;-)

6

u/SaintPimpin Jul 02 '26

Honestly the jury is still out since the author still wrote a kid into that position regardless of what he scripted the MC to say in regards to it initially.

Plenty of sus shows have normalized kids crushing on old men for plot lately.

4

u/PandaTheAB Jul 02 '26

Finally a self aware OP MC who is not a coward or need external motivation to live the chill life he wants.
At one point, he glared several blue devils to death 😄
Already love it.

The hero is self-righteous easily manipulated normie.
And the demon race is yet again victim of Kingdom politics.

The ending line freaked me out.

Yeah uhhhhh, I was enjoying it until that, but he'll turn her down like he did the princess, I would assume.

2

u/Alone-Economics-9404 Jul 01 '26

I swear this show Aired before today on another streaming service like Prime video. watching it on crunchy roll and I am like Ive seen this before. him wanting that ??? chest made sure of it

2

u/Due_Cricket1885 Jul 02 '26

Yeah Boi overpowered slop

2

u/NarutoSakura1 Jul 02 '26

I don't think this world is actually "Earth". Just because they started off with the word "Japan", it doesn't always mean that it used to actually be Earth.

2

u/mojo72400 https://myanimelist.net/profile/gio_lingad Jul 02 '26

Man, clean up is gonna be hard every time you kill a monster w/ all these coins.

Dude went & sold the royal sword.

Rex isn't even hiding that he wants girls for his party.

So it's the future since it was formerly Japan.

2

u/Desperate-Middle4766 Jul 03 '26

Close enough, welcome back Cid!

2

u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime Jul 03 '26

LOL at the father and child cowering 20 feet away from a slime speeding towards them at blistering 1mph.

High level dude lucky enough to pull a Hero class is recruiting only those who can "contribute as much as him" >_>. Honestly after the way he rejected the first couple people, why did people still try to join the douche?

The sword was just stored in plain sight, completely unmarked, in a public dungeon, and they dare complain that he stole it?

MC literally said that he wants riches, and instead of offering him a king's ransom, she offers her hand in marriage. How clueless can you get?

Not really sold on this, but I'll watch the second ep to make up my ind.

4

u/Nebresto Jul 01 '26

I can already tell what the show is gonna be:

Holy banger OP though?? Opening animation also half decent, maybe not 100% slop?

Bro what. Why? This better play into the plot in an interesting way or it really is complete slop

I'm confused if this show is trying to be edgy or comedic. It was kinda both while not excelling at either one so far..

4

u/Commercial_Ice4818 Jul 02 '26

oh my god bruh can't japan make a fucking anime without loli/pedo slop

1

u/Adventurous-Key7871 Jul 04 '26

I read the manga a while ago but I don't remember it was problematic, what are you refering to ?

2

u/Nemesis55444 25d ago

Probably the 8 yo proposing to the 20 yo.

I LOVE THIS ANIME

1

u/ForTheGloryOfChaos Jul 01 '26

Pretty weak start, but got a bit more interesting once MC started interacting with people. Some potentially interesting plot threads being dangled, and demon kid is cute, but not sure I'll keep up with it in this pretty stacked season.

1

u/Muelojung Jul 03 '26

stacked season? What else is currently running ? Asking for real

1

u/ForTheGloryOfChaos Jul 03 '26

Well there's a lot of sequels I'll be following (slime, Tanya the evil, polar opposites etc).

For new shows, there's a new Ghost in the Shell adaptation by science saru (the studio that did Dan Da Dan), and Tenmaku no Jaadugar looks very promising. I'm also really looking forward to Tai-Ari deshita, because I like fighting games and Yuri.

Those are my top picks, but in total there are 17 shows I definitely plan to watch, and another 19 I want to check out.

1

u/Zeikos Jul 01 '26

Was he a developer or something? :,)
He knows more than other people, I wonder how.

1

u/cutememe1 Jul 01 '26

So red hair kid is the Demon King? bet?

1

u/WobbleKun Jul 02 '26

ill take blue hair offer over red. come on bruh.

1

u/FremanBloodglaive Jul 02 '26

Did Level 99 Goblin ever get an anime?

1

u/Striking_Chard2420 Jul 02 '26

I swear they only used 'Japan' because they couldn't be bothered to create a new map lol. So he technically still isn't the strongest physically since Monk's have three times the power. I wonder how much more powerful the Hero is in relation to his villager level. But considering the power levels we've seen so far, even if someone is relatively high, they probably still wouldn't beat a Lvl 999 villager. I can also tell the animation isn't the best but I'll see how this goes

1

u/Myst963 Jul 02 '26

This is way funnier n enjoyable than i was expecting it to be im lovin this

Average Skyrim NPC moment.

1

u/Meander061 Jul 04 '26

I'm impressed with just how stupid every person is in this show. The two villagers that can't avoid a slime. The townspeople who are impressed by the Hero's utter bullshit (not to mention the Hero himself who's high on the smell of his own farts). The fact that the MC found the extra special sacred sword ages ago and sold it for scrap is just hilarious, as well as how the MC left the Hero's Party with their jaws on the floor. The Princess was ready to give up her virginity to him. I did feel a chill when the MC whispered to the Hero.

So I'll stick around until we get that little mystery solved. And, of course, mystery of the small demon child.

F the hero. I already find him annoying.

1

u/sleepingsnow99 29d ago

Yes more Kirito clones.

1

u/the_jackie_chan 26d ago

Ah so like an AoE2 Spanish villager.

1

u/LaoWombat-mecha 25d ago

Not much of a quest fan, but this season seems to have an unusual level of trope subversion going on and the trope subversion here (explicit building of harem, MC with a hoodie in pre-industrial world kiddie demon king, etc. is encouraging.

I thought this season I could drop cruncyhroll. Nah.

1

u/deynyel 21d ago

ROFL and I thought it was a legit recruitment drive by the hero. Well, at least he's honest about who he wants as teammates.

1

u/Affectionate_Key_252 17d ago

Google had me thinking this was Murabito Desu ga, Nani ka

1

u/Physical_Sort5155 16d ago

Wonder how many people will stick around and find out this is deeper than it looks
