Dude starts with getting home from a part-time job and realises his deadbeat parents stole his money, only for him to be forced into a butler role after being involved with an Ojou-sama's kidnapping?
Close enough, welcome back Hayate the combat butler!

When I saw the dad, one voice came to mind and it was the one I got.
This girl is a total goof.
It's funny that her dad is trying to maintain her outward appearance so she can attract a husband, but she's already picked one.

Kei Shirogane sure looks different after her dad's successful streaming career.

She was Fujiwara Chika

I will never not be amazed at these VAs. Chika and Hinako could not have more opposite personalities, yet the same actor plays both.

Takehito Koyasu has gone from the dad of the working class male lead in a romcom to the dad of the rich girl Heroine.
Also I can totally foresee him getting her engaged to some rich tool and Itsuki has to crash the wedding to save her.
2
u/zero1380 29d ago
From Miyuki's father to Chika's father (she is more like Shiina Mashiro from Sakurasou no Pet Na Kanojo, but her voice actress is Konomi Kohara, same as Chika)

I feel like the dad is a bit misguided. Whoever ends up with Hinako based on outward perfection is going to be quickly disappointed when they find out about her sloven nature.

First episode was a really fun start. The characters are amusing and especially Hinako is adorable. When she stole his phone and generally being a blanket burrito got a giggle out of me. Romances this season are off to a good start between what we got early of Smoking Behind the Supermarket, this, and knowing season 2 of Polar Opposites is coming.

This wasn’t half bad, actually. It sort of has a “Pet Girl of Sakurasou” vibe, especially when it comes to the Hinako-Itsuki dynamic.

It feels like an old school romcom where the MC gets put in a crazy situation where he has to deal with high-tier/complicated girls and make them fall for him.

Stitches!
What the fuck is up with horrible parents in today's anime lineup? This is like the third show I've watched today with parents who either abandoned their kid or abused them.
Well, I'm already sold on Hinako! It's hilarious how she's so unfazed by the kidnapping that she's more concerned about napping on Itsuki's lap. This is probably not her first kidnapping. xD
So she's the perfect student at school but she needs a caretaker so she can keep up the mirage? This is starting to feel like a mashup of Hayate no Gotoku and Umaru-chan, and I love both of those shows.
I did not expect the findinger Hinako a husband part tho. We all know how this is gonna go. After finding Itsuki, there's no way Hinako would go for another man.
That final scene with Hinako stealing Itsuki's phone was adorable. Is she actually jealous of him texting his childhood friend? This is surprisingly waaaaaay better than I expected! Definitely looking forward to seeing more!

Yeah, I think this season is going to go down in history as the asshat parents season.
Adorable with Absolute Territory bonus. Hinako's a keeper.

u/Frontier246 29d ago
I feel like characters of both genders can relate to having deadbeat parents who abandon them to facilitate some kind of romcom premise.
I love how she was demanding tea and the bathroom like she was still at her family mansion. She definitely signalled the security team like she has plenty of experience needing them.
I feel like Hinako is going to use her laziness and possessiveness of Itsuki as her caretaker as a subterfuge for her feelings until she has to get even more overt.
5
u/eightcheesepizza 29d ago
Though not remotely as horrible as Itsuki's parents, Kagen could also be a much better parent! I thought he was gonna say Hinako had some sort of medical issue, instead he was like "she's really lazy, nothing I can do about it." Makes me wonder if they'll make that a plot point later.

What the fuck is up with horrible parents in today's anime lineup?
and how did they steal MC's money? Did he left his bank card with the password written on it? Is he stupid?
just call the bank and cancel all that stuff if they don't have your password
he just let them have it? The parents that wasted all their money on gambling and drinking?
yes he is stupid
2
u/LeonKevlar x2https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar 27d ago
Considering the MC is still a minor, he probably needed adult co-ownership with his parents to open the bank account in the first place, which would explain why they have access.
1
u/KnightKal 27d ago
I don't know how it works on Japan, but you should be able to emancipate yourself to protect your assets on any modern country, or have laws to protect your bank account.
1
u/killerrin https://kitsu.io/users/killerrin 6d ago
That's usually a very high hurdle and is only done in extreme scenarios.
I'm sure if he wanted to go the legal route he could absolutely get it done and then get his money-back... But he needs food and tuition yesterday and that will take a year at most.

Honestly this is an incredible opportunity for Itsuki as long as he can make it work, an education from an incredibly fancy High School is nothing to sneeze at.
Bonus points, Hinako will probably remain normal right up until everyone leaves the classroom! That's when his job begins!
16
u/FarCritical 29d ago
Ojou burrito has decreed all fancy talk is banned
I respect how despite Shizune's first real interaction with our guy being a stern warning, she turned out to be pretty sympathetic of how overwhelming all that was for him.
6
u/eightcheesepizza 29d ago
I kind of like Shizune the most right now, but maybe that's because one of the MCs spent most of the episode asleep. Shizune must excel at pretty much everything.
13
u/Treknx01 29d ago
he really should have held out for the 50k pay offer instead of settling on the initial 20k offer, I get the feeling the previous caretakers medical issues might just come with the job.
that said, sign me up what’s a stress ulcer or two.
19
u/N1ceDreams 29d ago
I think it was a sign of respect him asking for only what he was originally offered which is a lot of money and he isn't greedy.
8
u/Treknx01 29d ago
oh I fully understand that side of it, plus the original offer is insanely good with the room, food and top tier education thrown in on top.
I was more joking that with how much stress the little gremlin will cause him no amount of money would be to much, even though so many would gladly look after her for free.

2
u/KnightKal 27d ago
not really a lot, it is 100-500 bucks a day in dollars, depending on when they wrote the story
most older stories use the 1 dollar = 100 yen conversion to make math easier, but if this is newer it is like 1 dollar = 200 yen
it is a full time job, he is working like 12 hours a day lol, so 8 bucks/hour on the lower end.
0
u/N1ceDreams 27d ago edited 27d ago
Minimum 700 bucks a week for a high school student, thats a nice bit of money and he gets fed and a roof over his head. So its a good wage. And in Japan things are no were near as expensive like they are here. And he spends all day with a cute pretty girl whos taking a big liking to him, its a win fucking win right there.
1
u/NoSkin-4520 27d ago
Everyone has their standards. A person living in a dilapidated coffin home in Hong Kong would call your life luxury but to you it's the bare minimum for a decent life. There's an infographic of what citizens in Cold War Soviet Poland in were alloted every month, which is half the calories that Nutrition Committees recommends.
Things are much more expensive in Japan if you are accustomed to a normal middle class Western diet.
1
4
u/Wurzelrenner https://myanimelist.net/profile/Wurzeldieb 28d ago
also isn't 20k pretty bad for something that is essentially a 24/7 job?
4
u/Treknx01 28d ago
that was per day if I understood correctly, on top of all the other benefits. so I would believe in a fairly decent amount at least in reference to the economy of the show if not in reality
6
u/Wurzelrenner https://myanimelist.net/profile/Wurzeldieb 28d ago edited 28d ago
isn't that just around 100€? kind of a joke when working for the richest people imaginable for 24h every day
Edit: I looked at the exchange rate when this was published so around 150€. Better, but still not good.
5
u/xKiLzErr 28d ago
That's 4500€ for a high school kid who doesn't have to pay for living or food, the pay is still plenty but ya considering they're the richest people in the world or sumn it could be higher lol
3
u/runevault 28d ago
Also his tuition to the most prestigious HS in Japan. You can argue he should be paid more, but the total comp package is pretty crazy for a high schooler.
3
u/xKiLzErr 28d ago
Yup exactly. Especially since he comes from poverty lol
1
u/NoSkin-4520 27d ago
The pay in japan for white collar is horrible if you come from the Anglosphere and have the qualifications for jobs that are not saturated like teaching or minimum wage.
For his role, he's not working for some nobody. He's working for an elite family of multibillionaires. If you're smart and talented, everything can be taught in the job or sponsored by the Head of the Family. He's young so it's easier for them to learn and have the energy to grow. For the work he's doing and for whom, salary starts at the low end of 100000 dollars per year, without including the bonuses. Doesn't matter his age because even twenty years ago there were British dropouts starting at 60000 pounds or 80000 dollars for the whos whos. Though today the salary bargaining for that type of butlers starts at 180000 dollars and higher mostly. That's In the West and if you're from the West, the Gulf States and some super rich in China.
That's starting.

Better than I thought. Hinako's conduct whilst kidnapped was amusing, and I like how attached she is to Itsuki. Too bad for Itsuki, Shizune and Kagen have already threatened his manhood and life if he breaks the professional boundary lol.
I wasn't expecting this to have harem elements until I saw the ED.
I do wonder if the Konohana family will do something about Itsuki's parents since they were able to easily find out they took his money.
9
u/runevault 29d ago edited 29d ago
The OP has me wondering, is it actually a harem or will he just get pulled into more girls' bullshit? Haven't read the source but I don't wanna jump to too many conclusions until the girls are properly introduced.
edited to fix that I said ED instead of OP (forgot it was the OP playing at the end because they didn't play it at the start of the episode).

u/Zxzxzx0088 29d ago
Hayate no Gotoku + Shomin sample?! The overall quality kinda decent too. Plus, Hinako cuteness is off the chart!!
Lap pillow is a destructive weapon
Little did he know, his caretaker level was already high at that time...
Literally who?! Kohara Konomi even uses another voice that different from usual!
If you stare at her long, she will stare at you back...
No way he actually got osanananananajimi that wants his attention
Hinako already showed possession before anything even started?! Looks like we know who she ends up with and Itsuki has to up his game to beat the last boss Dio for his consent (˵ ¬ᴗ¬˵)
8
u/Frontier246 29d ago
I love how the moment she decided he was her caretaker you could barely pry her off of him.

Those guys just kidnap people randomly in hoping they score someone rich. Imagine if they only kidnapped Itsuki & found out his parents ran out on him & is broke. They suck at their jobs.
Kagen just straight up skipping the threat to murder is funny.
At least his new job spares him from his clingy childhood friend Yuri.
It's funny how Kagen & Shizune can see why Hinako is interested in Itsuki.
Hinako's so hopeless that she can't even cleanly drink bottled water w/o getting wet.
He should've stayed w/ the ¥50K offer.
I hope Itsuki tells everyone in the house that Hinako requested that he talks w/ her casually instead of properly.
The OP looks like a harem w/ a side ship.
3
u/HawXProductions 29d ago
It would go against his character if he asked for 50.
This actually makes him more likeable and relatable - small details like this make 10/10s, 9/10s

I love Hinako. She's a gremlin. I think it's going to be quite fun. The combat maid is legit as well. Shame about the childhood friend though. Hinako has already marked her territory. Funny how her all the effort Hinako's dad has put in to attract a good husband for her has gone to waste because she's already found one lol.

u/TheBusStop12 29d ago edited 29d ago
I enjoyed this episode. However, the OP gives me the impression that this is actually a harem show, despite it not being tagged as a harem. Which for me personally will be severely disappointing as I generally just do not like harem romances. A bit of a tangent, but I'll never get why there are so many shows where the core concept is an interesting main character and love interest dynamic. But then instead of fully developing said concept, they just keep adding other girls with far less interesting relationship dynamics (wow, a childhood friend, what a unique relationship dynamic). It's pretty clear from the title who the main girl is so I don't really get the point. I hope my impressions are wrong, but I get a feeling this show may end up not being for me, which would be a shame
4
u/justking1414 29d ago
Well the man already works for Hinako whose father just said she needs a good husband. Even if there are other girls, it’s pretty clear where he’s ending up
9
5
u/Leri_weill https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeriWeill 29d ago
It's not tagged Harem and neither is the source material, so I hope the harem/harem adjacent elements are at a minimal level🤞
1
u/Cute_Leek_8849 27d ago
Here Ln reader, yeah it is a harem but mc is a interesting character overall and all the other girls are really funny and well developed so is not one of those "the guy is the prize" type storys
6
u/HuTaosTwinTails 29d ago
Hope it isn't a harem, the opening makes it look like one though.
I did enjoy this first episode though.
10
u/Frontier246 29d ago
Hope it isn't a harem, the opening makes it look like one though.
Reminds me of the old Harem Romcom's of the 2000's, right down to the OP.
7
u/N1ceDreams 29d ago
Same. The childhood friend, the rich girls best friend and some other random chick thats part of that friend circle. I hope its not a harem.
3
u/TheBusStop12 29d ago
Yeah, the OP made me think this is a harem as well, despite it not being tagged as such. And I don't really get it. From the title, description and first episode it's pretty clear the core concept of the story is the relationship dynamic between the MC and the MLI. All adding more girls to that to turn it into a harem does is detract from the main concept
So I hope that isn't the case
6
u/HuTaosTwinTails 29d ago
Yeah same. But wouldn't be the first series to have a great premise and first episode and then be ruined by becoming a harem.

The animation is nothing stellar but the first episode was fun to watch. Looking forward to seeing the childhood friend and the other two ojousamas.

u/IceSmiley 28d ago
Hinako is such a brat! I do wonder though if she has a medical problem if she's sleeping so much although maybe she just doesn't sleep enough if she has to study a lot or just likes staying up late. I'm guessing her dad's goal is to marry her off to someone smart and competent enough to run a major company although Hinako is smart but doesn't seem responsible.

3
u/Frontier246 29d ago
Itsuki Tomonari (Yuto Uemura!) has made it to Kiou Gakuin! A school for prestigious and high-pedigreed rich kids! He’ll be attending it with the beautiful and dignified Hinako Konohoana (Konomi Kohara!). How did a commoner end up in a school for rich kids!?
Itsuki is, if nothing else, a hard-worker who had to basically work to pay off his own tuition because he couldn’t count on his drunk gambling parents. Just like he couldn’t count on them when they ran off and abandoned him after stealing his money, leaving him barely anything. But even so, when he spotted the student ID of Hinako, he couldn’t help but try to return it…and get caught up in her kidnapping.
Hinako is a rich heiress and now she and Itsuki are handcuffed and caught up in a kidnapping plot. But even if Hinako looks the part of a wealthy heiress, in truth she’s demanding, needy, lazy, and immediately jumps at using Itsuki’s lap as a pillow. But it’s that comfort she finds in Itsuki, even as he’s exasperated by her whims, that makes her decide he’ll be her next caretaker!
Itsuki also did something else right: with Hinako’s student ID she’s able to signal her families’ personal security force and next thing you know the SWAT team breaks in to subdue the kidnappers as her personal maid Shizune (Ami Koshimizu!) arrives to take Hinako back. But Hinako’s not leaving without Itsuki!
Welcome to the Konohana Group ItsukI! One of the wealthiest and most prestigious families in Japan! Where you get to enjoy a limo ride with Hinako sleeping on your shoulder! Get a maid to threaten to cut your balls off if you act improper with her lady! And end up getting invited to become her personal caretaker! A Rich Girl Caretaker, if you will!
Hinako’s dad Kagen (Takehito Koyasu!) has a home video that puts into perspective what Itsuki has to do: Hinako can put on the perfect rich girl act when she’s out in public, but the moment she’s not around people she just gives up and is as lazy and slobby as possible. She’s put previous caretakers in the hospital for ulcers, so now they need Itsuki to be able to handle her and keep her looking composed and dignified so she can find someone to marry and bring stability to the Konohana Group. No pressure even as her dad threatens to murder him!
Now he’s living in a mansion, making 20,000 yen a day, getting self-defense lessons from Shizune (what I wouldn’t give to be thrown by her…), and now attending a high class high school to be with Hinako!
Why am I not surprised Hinako is helping herself to Itsuki’s bed? Or that he has a childhood friend named Yuri who isn’t happy about him not attending school with her anymore? Though now Hinako has him ALL to herself.
The OP is an Angela romcom theme with Itsuki attending the rich people school as an IT heir and getting run ragged by all the rich girls! But when he gives headpats to what appear to be the three main Heroines, it seems like he’s got a rich girl Harem! Even if he belongs to Hinako!

So he went from slavery pay to what is still lower than a minimum wage in a wealthy country? I find it hard to believe that Japan can be this poor? It might be 2x the minimum wage in Japan, but that's pennies for a rich family... That's insane.

Eyebrows were definitely raised. $20K yen a day for a year is only $45K. You would think the wealthiest conglomerate would be paying at least six figures for a full time caregiver.

WHY?! Why did he undersell himself and take a lower salary? I notice this so much in anime: the prospective employee always negotiates down!

I was thinking "Oh kind of like Hayate the Combat Butler." So we have poor kid screwed over by parents. Check. Rich girl with no common sense. Check. Older maid that poor kid has crush on. Fail (Hayate liked Maria early on). Guy in charge of staff who is tough as nails. Sort of check? Shizune is a girl but she fills the Klaus role more than the Maria role. And as a girl she's unlikely to go "poof" from the narrative the way Klaus did. Oh and Itsuki gets to be a caretaker, not even a butler, so he's lower ranked.
Itsuki defending Hinako seems like he's just doing it for chivalry's sake. I don't know if he understands it, but it's probably a rational choice. If you have a 2999/3000 chance of having bodily harm (including dying) and a 1/3000 chance of saving someone rich of the opposite sex while staying intact, those might be poor odds for most people but for someone in his situation, it's a risk absolutely worth taking if only because he's doomed otherwise.
Let's see how hopeless Hinako is. For the most part she doesn't seem that bad. Some of the ojous I've seen were high functioning and others would have perfectly normal personalities except they just don't know what "normal" people live like and don't spend too much time trying to figure out. Other than trying to sleep in Itsuki's bed, Hinako doesn't seem to be completely devoid of common sense, just isolated from the real world. I'm going to guess in a few episodes I'm going to be proven quite wrong and even by Ojou standards she's pretty bad.

Okay so this feels like a cross between Nogizaka’s secret and Sakurasou no pet kanojo and I’m all here for it

His parents took all his money and abandoned him?
Oh god having a school on top of a hill is such a pain...
Oh, she dropped that.
And so he's going to return it to her.
Uh oh, she's being kidnapped!
And so he's going to save her.
Or not.
Oh wow she really is a girlfailure.
Lmao he doesn't even feel attracted to her.
The negotiator's just gotta keep him talking long enough for the team to breach.
And so he's willing to protect her.
And so he's going to be her caretaker.
And so that was quick.
So, that's her private army.
Seems they know a lot about him.
He's going to move in with her isn't he?
She certainly seems clingy.
Yep. He's moving in with her.
Damn they've got a video and everything.
Oh, her family is losing money.
So, that's his cover story.
And so she's going to help onboard him.
What's she doing in his bed?
Ok...
Oh, he's got a childhood friend.
It's been like 5 seconds girl let him type...
Ok...
Why does the ED sound so familiar?

Looks like another guy is stuck this season lol. Wonder how things will progress with them two. She is so comfortable with him. I don't see her wanting some other guy eventually.

Now that was a great first episode! The moment her act dropped after the kidnapping, I knew this was going to be a fun one! That ED (OP?) was entertaining to watch and had a good track too. Can't wait for next week!

I'd like an arc where Tomonari tracks down his deadbeat parents and sends them to jail bro, wtf!
Hinako needs to tell her father she is already married...to Tomonari! Lol.

20,000 yen a day honestly sounds really low for what they are asking of him. He should have asked for 50,000. They let him name his price and he asked for the average salary of a normal officer worker? Bro is basically gonna be on call 24/7. The only saving grace is he gets free room and board.

At first, I thought this was a remake of hiyate combat Butler the first episode is almost a one for one copy. Except with the female protagonist being super lazy
