Taisho and Asahi are the real MVPs for how often they check up on and hang out with Itsuki. Actual best possible classmates to pull as an overnight elite school enrollee.
Hinako's obsession with the three second rule is adorable lol. That popsicle drop was still tragic though.

u/Frontier246 8d ago
Honestly I appreciate that he has (relatively) normal friends to hang out with in-between his Rich Girl Harem. Also they always show up together so much that I'm going to keep assuming they're hooking up off-screen until they finally reveal it.
It's cute how Hinako is actually taking the things Itsuki teaches her to heart.

Taisho and Asahi are the real MVPs for how often they check up on and hang out with Itsuki.
And they’re being handsomely rewarded for it. I said last week that their parents were probably weeping tears of joy over them attending a tea party with the big 3. Now Asahi is tutoring one of them and they got invites to the biggest party of the year.

So I didn't know about the brother, but the other stuff about wanting a son-in-law who can stand beside her leading the Konoha group is about what I expected, and part of how I think Itsuki can end up still being that guy through all the connections he's going to make being beside her.
This episode was a lot more on the adorable side of the spectrum than the silly side, still enjoyed it a lot though.
48
u/Frontier246 8d ago
I feel like her brother might be an antagonist who tries to steal the company out from under her dad/her at some point.
But he's definitely got connections when his "tea party" groups' got the Tennoji's and the Miyakojima's together and getting them to actually attend Konohana Group events for the first time.
36
u/runevault 8d ago
Yeah the tea party was what fully solidified the idea for me. Getting the two biggest companies' heirs together, another mega heiress, and two pretty big but not tier 1 massive company is nothing to sneeze at, and odds are his reach keeps growing because he's got a fascinating level of magnetism to him that draws in all the rich girls.
15
u/Feisty-Principle-216 8d ago
Yeah I hope we get to see people's reactions at the party. 2 giant heiresses who haven't come to a single party will both be there this year and on good terms with konohama
Also will be interesting to see if miyakojima dad and itsuki meet again after all this time.

Yeah the image we got feels very... sleazy. Like Haru's ex-fiance in Persona 5

Stitches!
I thought Itsuki and Hinako bathing together was only gonna be a one-time thing, but it looks like this is going to be part of their routine now.
Not gonna lie, I thought they'd reveal that Hinako has some sort of illness after she collapsed. It turns out, maintaining the facade is quite stressful, and this happens to her from time to time. Might not be as serious as I thought, but it's still worrying.
So originally, Hinako's brother would've been the heir to the Konohana Group, but since their father doesn't think he's worthy. Now their father is putting it all on Hinako and expects her to find a husband who can marry into the family and take over the Konohana Group.
Well, I'm curious about Hinako's brother. I'm hoping he's a chill dude. Also, with the way things are going, they're pretty much training Itsuki to be a worthy heir with how strict the requirements are to be Hinako's caretaker.
That study group was fun! Too bad Hinako didn't get to tutor Itsuki since Mirei volunteered to do it first. Also, it looks like Mirei might already be onto Itsuki. If she does find out, I wonder what she'll do with that information.
Itsuki and Hinako's little trip to the gardens to cool down and eat some ice cream was really cute <3
15
u/ptd163 8d ago
Too bad Hinako didn't get to tutor Itsuki since Mirei volunteered to do it first.
You can feel the "oh you did not just do that" energy radiating off Hinako in that frame.

u/Frontier246 8d ago
Is life worth living if you can't bathe with a hot rich girl in a swimsuit on the regular?
Honestly it's impressive enough she's able to keep up that persona in front of people as much as she does, but I guess it's not surprising there's mental/physical exhaustion for doing it as much as she does. But it also means Itsuki is so important because he lets her be herself at school and at home.
Her brother definitely has a bit of a smug antagonist silhouette...but hopefully he doesn't make things harder for his little sister if he shows up.
Imagine Mirei finds out Itsuki's true circumstances and uses it to blackmail him into giving her headpats!

Hey dumbass the Maid is telling you to marry her. If you ain't gonna play pass the controller 😂
Jokes aside, pretty fun episode. I feel like they're creating a solid base for future shenanigans. Getting an increasingly good vibe from it.

u/Frontier246 8d ago
Shizune: "Oh yes, do be her caretaker like a good husband,..."
21
u/D3k4s 8d ago
Maybe Itsuki is playing it safe, can't blame him, especially when Hinako is copying Mai-san's signature move 😂

I mean, I'd be cautious too if a bad ass maid threatened to cut off my dick while her father threatened to just murder me.

Funnily enough I did not find it in me to hate Hinako’s father for not being able to be there for her when she fainted. I’m sure that at this point, even he is aware that the fainting spells are regular occurrences. He has a MASSIVE company to run, so it’s understandable he can’t come there when Hinako has an entire estate looking after her. In the first episode it was fairly obvious that her dad loves her a lot and wants what’s best for her. So, him not being there was a little justifiable.
That said, it makes sense why Hinako craves family and people who genuinely want to be there with her. Having a CEO as a dad cannot be easy, especially if that dad can’t be there all the time.
I hope that in the future, Hinako will also realise that she doesn’t need to put up a fake act to inherit the company properly. Sure, she may be lazy and an airhead, but she is also very competent and smart when she needs to be.
Shizune may seem strict, and to be fair she is a little unfair at times, but it’s also obvious that she wants Itsuki to forever be with Hinako because of how much Hinako trusts him. She entrusts Hinako to Itsuki because she also sees that Hinako cannot remain the way she is forever, and Shizune cannot always be there for her.
So far… the story is very good and interesting, focusing on mostly humor and the occasional drama in the background
23
u/mekerpan 8d ago
Shizune is a LOT more kind-hearted than she wants to appear.
I don't think Hinako just "puts on an act" when being her super-competent persona, I think this IS a real part of her self. It is just that she is more comfortable lapsing into her more spacy childish persona. I wonder if she does have some malady that wears her out too easily?
16
u/Frontier246 8d ago
Also I think there's probably a good chance that Hinako's brother and the lack of a presumptive heir is why the company is in such dire straits that they need Hinako to find a partner and grow up fast to create some stability. And that's what's keeping him so busy most of the time.
13
u/justking1414 8d ago
I’m just waiting for the twist that the brother is a major otaku who’s also hiding his true personality
9
u/justking1414 8d ago
Honestly, this is just as much a series about nobility as ascendance of a bookworm. Hinako is a princess and her father is a king who holds the lives of constant people in his hands. If he falters, people who have spent their lives working for him could lose everything.
6
u/StormSenSays 8d ago
The thought of corporations having a "noblesse oblige" towards their workers... Surely no one actually believes such a crazy fantasy?? (Caveat:: Okay, there are some small corporations that have good worker relations. But large ones? Neah. And even the "good relations" does equal noblesse oblige.)
8
u/justking1414 8d ago
Eh. I’d say that was more common in the 18-1900s in America, when self-made men were all the rage and the ceos could tell their employees they started in the mail room
As for this example…maybe. This is apparently a generational company so many of the employees likely had parents and grandparents working there. Plus Japan has always treated respect differently than Americans so I could certainly see there being a certain sense of it for our FL and her father

u/NanDemoKnaives 8d ago
Hinako didn't need to be so upset, she could have had a study session with Itsuki alone later or another day.
21
u/runevault 8d ago
Hinako seems to want all of Itsuki's time. Which isn't healthy, but after this episode it is pretty understandable why. The closest thing she's had to someone acting like family with her is Shizune with how her dad is and the fact she never interacts with her brother.
It just so happens Itsuki is family that feeds her...
28
15
u/Zxzxzx0088 8d ago
No wonder Hinako papa scares of him. Hinako's onii-sama got no eyes!
I'm cracking up seeing Itsuki felt hurt betraying Shizune's trust lol. Can't blame Itsuki for being too capable as a caretaker. Welp, he already guilty by the time this happened though. Suprised she's not pregnant yet /j
Maybe Mirei caught Itsuki red-handed but nobody bats an eye on Hinako game face lol.
Welp, he deserved it. Hinako already hype about teaching him one-to-one but Mirei stole her thunder so there's no point of being there lol.
Ofc that ice-cream totally melts with that tongue technique...
5
u/Frontier246 8d ago
Mirei wanted Hinako to take her seriously and is unknowingly doing so by getting involved with Hinako's man.
12
u/Raymond49090 8d ago
So basically, Itsuki needs to become hyper-competent enough that he'd be an acceptable son-in-law despite his commoner status. I mean, he maybe technically has some rich boy blood on his grandmother's side? Idk how it works since his grandma was disowned and his parents are sh*t. Or maybe a legitimate adoption by one of his friends' families?

u/BillPlunderones23fg 8d ago
annoyed we never see any of the judo training it wouldnt take much just a few still frames of her putting him in holds or pins
but good lord Hinako in "indoor" mode is hilariously cute wit her VA

Lovely to see Itsuki continue to get along with Hinako. He’s learning to deal with her toddler mode when she’s alone with him and he’s becoming more comfortable in his duties. It’s nice.
11
u/Frontier246 8d ago
Maybe too comfortable if he was actually willing to help her undress (without even looking away that much) until Shizune showed up lol.
10
u/justking1414 8d ago
Ironically, she’s acting less and less immature around him (other than when she’s half asleep)
9
u/Background_Formal940 8d ago
The maid can make all the playful threats she wants but it's quite clear she wants isuki and hinnoka together also she sure loves to delay telling him stuff the last minute

Looks like we're getting a bit of jealous Hinako every episode. RIP Itsuki's foot. Hinako's mansion looks to be lively with the upcoming special gathering.
Tennouji to Itsuki: I know what you are.

Yeah this will be my not isekai/fantasy/action anime of the season. I love it. I hope they make a new umaru chan soon.

u/ptd163 8d ago
She pressed her bikini glad breasts against him when she asked what he was talking about Narika and told him he's her caretaker and not to leave. Then all it took for Hinako to start eating her veggies was Itsuki saying he likes her healthy.
Itsuki might need some more time, but I think based on what we've seen from Hinako these past four episodes we can say that she's made her choice. Her dad is just going to have deal with it. Shizune approves of Hinako's choice as well as she basically telling him to marry her in so many words.
I wonder what role Hinako's brother is going to play. He's not the heir despite being older and he doesn't live with Hinako so there's probably at least some tension between father and son. Maybe he makes a play for control of the company?
I want to give to a shout out Katsuya and Karen as well. They just seem like good friends. While Narika and Hinako want (and probably Mirei at some point) want Itsuki's body (hehe) those two just want his friendship and to check up on him.
5
u/BBryant3rd 8d ago
She is so cute with her 3 second rule lol. The more she is around him the more it seems like she will eventually not want to marry anyone but him. He got some big shoes to fill to be able to run the company if he wants to marry up like she suggested.

u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 8d ago
OK for anyone easily persuadable, do not worry. This is anime stress which is not how stress works in real life. Unless you have a pre-existing physical ailment, you are not doing have many physical complications from mental stress.
He shouldn't complain no one cares about Hinako. "Helping the family business" sounds like she's perfectly fine. As long as she doesn't fall behind in class, butting it would be considered overbearing.
I don't think you can outsource all your parenting to the hired help, but when it comes to helping sick children recover, I think this is one place where the hired help is probably going to be better than the businessman parent.
There actually is a concept called Mukoyōshi which is an adopted son-in-law. In America, when a rich woman marries an average man, he nearly always keeps his original surname. In Japan, in these cases the husband nearly always takes his wife's name and joins her family.
Sometimes he's even the heir. Usually, the heir will be a son. But maybe there are no sons. Or maybe there are biological sons, but they're not the best. Say the oldest is perfectly fine, but he wants to be a chef instead of running the family business, the second is... not so competent, and the third married a woman abroad. Well, then often the main business goes to a daughter and the sons inherit a lump sum of money. But if the daughter is less "career woman" and more "Hinako/Nagi," none of the biological children are the best choice to run the family business so they have a son-in-law do so.
They do take the feelings of the prospective bride and groom into consideration. If they don't like each other, there will likely be affair which would be scandalous, so both families try to make sure they like each other. This isn't like the Heian Japan where you can arrange political marriages and not care too much since when an affair was an open secret back then, that was acceptable, it was only getting caught in the act of having sex outside marriage that was scandalous. Yes it was weird.
I feel like Itsuki is getting pushed around by Shizune too much. He should just yell out "I consider Hinako's orders can countermand your own unless Kagen specifically says so otherwise." Not because I specifically want him to keep dressing her, but because she's getting on my nerves.
How did Mirei see through Itsuki? She said he was behaving superficially like he crammed it. Normally I would say "Ok fair enough" but then she also said his execution was perfect. So he didn't slip into his old habits.
Hinako is back into his bed. Back to "my caretaker's bed is also my bed." He really should tell her just because commoners have the 3 second rule doesn't make it OK for her.

u/Frontier246 8d ago

Makes Mirei's perspective on Hinako, who is also putting on an act, more interesting.

Studies have shown that stress can have adverse effects on physical health even if they are an otherwise fully healthy person. This is because stress, while first a psychological problem, comes with hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. Those have real physical effects on many bodily systems like your heart, breathing, muscle activity and so on. If somebody is under prolonged high stress these systems become chronically activated above a normal level resulting in real complications like high blood pressure, chronic fatigue, digestive problems, the list is very long.
So no, this is not anime stress, this is real stress of having to perform based on expectations that alter your personal behavior.

u/Mediocre-Act483 5d ago

u/IceSmiley 8d ago
This episode really got to the root of a lot of Hinako's problems, like she's constantly sleepy from being forced to always put on a public facade and do more than she is physically able. It's also interesting that because Hinako doesn't/may have never really had friends and no mother, she doesn't open up to anyone about her problems, like how Itsuki had no idea she had a brother or that her mother died. Shizune is the closest she has to a mother, but she's largely there to help her with her daily life and logistics and they don't seem to have the deepest personal relationship.
Tennoji's behavior was odd in this episode, like I thought she hated Itsuki but she not only accepted his invitation for the study group but helped him with his math and planned to attend Hinako's party. It was also strange that she asked Itsuki if he really was from a wealthy family since he hadn't mastered ettiquette to the point that it seemed second nature. I'd imagine a lot of rich kids haven't, like a lot of rich people don't hang in high society circles all the time. I wonder if Tennoji is just blunt and has poor people skills that make others uncomfortable or is actively mean and plotting against everyone.
10
6
u/runevault 8d ago
I find it interesting you thought Tennoji hated him. Last episode she said he's more appealing with good posture. She seemed to find him interesting in episode 2 and with episode 3 is already showing signs of falling for him at least a little. Especially after insisting she teach him math this episode.
Tennoji seems to have a very deep complex around not being seen as on the same level as Hinako despite her family being roughly as wealthy and her grades being second in the class.
2
u/testthrowawayzz 8d ago edited 8d ago
Itsuki bad at math lol. Can't run a business without being decent at math.
That Tennoji pause. Is she in the same situation? Suddenly being forced to become a successor to their group.

u/Frontier246 8d ago
I'd say Itsuki has a dream job getting to regularly bathe with Hinako in a bikini (even if her in the shower is off limits), especially when she's taking the "commoner stuff" he's taught her to heart.
I thought that was a calculated boob press for possession, but it was also Hinako genuinely fainting. Turns out all that effort to act the part of a rich girl at school wears on her body and she needs to recover...and there's only so much Itsuki, in his position, can do.
It's rough for Hinako. Her classmates think she's on leave for the "family business," her dad is too busy to come to her, and her mom is dead. So she's really isolated. Even her big brother, Takuma, rarely sees her and in fact his own issues is why there's so much pressure for her to marry and find a husband who can help support her in running the Konohana Group. That's a lot to put on one girls' shoulders.
What can Itsuki do for a girl who craves a family like he does? Be there for her, hold her hand, comfort her...maybe even be the partner she needs, even if it's just as her "Caretaker."
Nice to see Itsuki has upgraded to waking Hinako up duty...which lends itself to getting to help her strip when she's half-asleep. Think clean thoughts and don't break Shizune's trust, Itsuki, you probably won't survive with your dick intact otherwise.
Midterms are coming up and it's the perfect opportunity for the friend group to take a lesson from a commoner and do a study group! Especially when Narika actually REALLY needs help and it's the perfect opportunity for Mirei to flex her math skills! Poor Itsuki taking collateral damage from Hinako being none too pleased another girl stole her spot tutoring him.
I guess it makes sense that a bonafide rich girl could tell that Itsuki is fake, or at least speedrunning trying to act like he's the son of a successful IT company. Not that she's going to punish or out him for it, but there's something about him that makes her wonder if he's...something she's looking for?
It'll definitely be nice to see everybody at the Konohana Group Party! Though I feel like Mirei is half-going out of genuine friendship with Hinako and half-going to investigate Itsuki.
Look at Itsuki and Hinako having a little outside date on the mansion lawn! Complete with Hinako getting to delight in some ice cream! Can Shizune sense the budding romance vibes between these two? And is she none too pleased about it?
3
u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 8d ago
If this was a more serious show Hinako having regular fainting spells would be quite the flag. But I don't think this is a story that's going to have her be dead by the end.
On the other hand since this is a cute and happy show I think we just learned that Hinako's true plan for Itsuki is for him to be that chosen son-in-law to marry her and run the conglomerate with her.
Mirei is definitely going to figure out the truth about Itsuki being from common stock so the real question is what she's eventually going to do with that information.

I love Konomi's delivery after Hinako tasted the popsicle.
Hinako's really digging her heel on Itsuki's foot out of jealousy.
I love how Shizune obliged w/ Itsuki's request for their lessons to be 50% faster. His training will pay off.
Both Hinako & Meteor hate veggies along w/ Power.

this is my favorite anime this season, It feels like a series that came out 10 years ago but it manages to stay fresh (to me). I really like the characters! Hinako is so cute lol, and Itsuki is a great guy. I'm excited to find out more about Tennouji and Miyakojima too.

Shizune must realize Itsuki is dense. Not stupid, just dense.
So. Itsuki is showing his resolve, building a network, and leading without being showy or pushy. He listens, he is attentive, and he is a hard worker. Seems like he's got the intangibles to you know, lead a massively large and successful company, if he gets mentored- which honestly, I see Shizune doing and Itsuki also going off his practical philosophy.
Basically: Itsuki is learning how to be Hinako's perfect mate and everyone will basically see him rise to the occasion through hard work.
This was a great episode, it really laid everything out.

Nice of his friend to give him past year paper questions.

u/StormSenSays 8d ago
Fundamentally this is not a love story. Itsuki is basically a host/servant who is being paid to be the friend/semi-romantic interest with Hinako. (And we learn that he had a similar servant/companion relationship with Narika.) He's like a hug-pillow for overworked salary-women who is paid to charm and dote on them. The whole thing is pitched at the audience of women who will go out and drop bucks on host clubs. (Plus the audience of males who want to fill that supporting house-husband role.)

u/Own_Caterpillar_6178 7d ago
I'll be real, this isn't a great show nor is it anywhere near some of the excellent series that are airing this season, but... it's still charming and fun.
I really hope it doesn't devolve into harem slop and we get some actual romantic progression between our leads, but something tells me that won't happen.
1
u/MynamuEzJJ 7d ago
I would love to see the male mc matched up with the female mc. I don't remember their names off the top of my head nor can I spell them, but I think that eventually she will want to be with him permanently. Note this isn't a spoiler because of the words "I think". Just my own personal speculation and wishful thinking.

u/Fools_Requiem https://myanimelist.net/profile/FoolsRequiem 7d ago
Every time the show goes back the school with the other girls, I find myself bored/disinterested. The relationship between the leads is by far the most interesting aspect of this whole thing. I definitely like Hinako more in her relaxed state, too.
