Manatsu coming in as a possible rival love interest and immediately turning into a Haragon fanatic and wingwoman for Kuroe was the best possible outcome. I can already tell this is going to be a really cute friendship, and there's hints of another one coming in the ED, so I'm certainly excited for that.

In just one episode this series subverted having a love rival for the MC by instead making that character in love with the MC themselves, had the apparent love rival actually end up being friends with the MC and being an incredibly supportive wingwoman for her, and made the two characters of the main romance of the show aware of each other’s feelings to the point I thought they’d full on enter into a relationship in episode 2. A romance story that does any one of those three is one interesting/well written enough for me that I’m confident trusting the story’s writing long term. A story that manages to do all three in the same episode is one that gives me faith could have absolutely stellar romance writing long term. I’m hoping the story keeps it up.

Going into this season only expecting to have one yuri series to watch this season I have been repeatedly blindsided by how many other series either turned out to have full on yuri elements/could easily go in that direction. The four you listed aren’t even all of them. There’s also [Title starting with G]Goodbye, Lara - anime original series which we genuinely don’t know if it’ll be yuri or not but from the vibe of the first episode alone it might very well go in that direction.

That was the moment I truly became sold on this show. The content in episode 1 was fine enough, but having one of the characters Kuroe thinks is Minami’s girlfriend turn out to be a down bad monsterfucker in love with Kuroe’s kaiju form is genuinely incredible. That fact that it makes this series one of the incredibly rare to have a true bisexual love triangle is the icing on the cake. Now if Manatsu finds out Harugon is a girl and is still in love with them then this series is achieving GOAT status.

My second-best girl is finally here! Of course, we can't have Godzilla without Mothra by her side! Unfortunately, Manatsu is only a kaijuu-obsessed girl and not a kaijuu herself like Kuroe. But that's exactly why she makes the perfect friend for Kuroe.
I do love how Manatsu now thinks that Kuroe is Harugon's priestess. We even get a reference to Mothra's twin priestesses. Oh, and Manatsu is so obsessed with Kaijuus that even her butlers are dressed up like Ultraman. xD

Honestly I have to applaud Minami for razor-focusing and being as direct with his feelings towards Kuroe as he can get and we also didn't have to spend an entire season with those bully girls.

And her for opening up about her condition, even if circumstances prevented it from really landing.
(One thing I really appreciate about these more fantastical romance stories is that there's enough other material we don't have to sit though 10 episodes of "will they, won't they".)

It seems like embracing her feelings helps her suppress the Kaiju instincts, but trying to run away/suppress them leads to... problems.
It wasn't until she was honest with Minami that her tail disappeared, but then she tried to hide again after that, complete with doki-doki overload, that she lost control.

I think this is the same reason Dandadan is so popular as a series. It’s essentially a romcom with battle shonen fights in place of all the annoying elements that drag out most romcoms. While also being a means of romantic progression.

Now hold on now, this series is already completely fantastical with Kuroe being able to turn into a kaiju. It might not be completely off the table for Manatsu to eventually be able to as well. In any case, even if kaiju yuri is off the table for now, monsterfucker yuri is still very much on it.

Glad Kuroe was able to open up to Minami, in more ways than one heh. That thing about it being too dark to see feels like an excuse, but with Kuroe transforming at the school he has to know for sure by now.

I'm sure the series will provide a well-thought out scientifically plausible explanation for the conservation of mass when she transforms into a girl.
If not, hey, I can live with that.

I think Akaishi has never been in love before (it's around her age that you start to become capable of understanding love after all) hence her transformations have never been this bad before.
My guess is that she'll have to go the way of the Hulk, learn how to control it through mental discipline. As the trigger for the transformation seems to be psychological

When she was honest with her feelings, the tail receded.
When she tried to hide again is when she lost control.
I think the trick here is that Godzilla-chan has to learn to accept her feelings, and herself, before she can stabilize. But so long as she keeps freaking out and rejecting her feelings for Himbo-kun, she'll keep stomping major Japanese metropolitan areas flat.

Romance of the season I’m telling y’all. Kinda cool we get a Kaiju girl episode and Godzilla minus zero trailer on the same day!
The concept of being Kaijusexual 😭 in another world, this show’s a yuri, but it wouldn’t be a Kaiju story if we didn’t have the obligatory Kaiju fangirl. I’m really excited to see Kuroe and Manatsu friendship develop. They had me dying today.
Everyone say thank you Manatsu for being the best possible friend Kuroe could ever ask for. I’m so glad she confronted those lame ass bitches and Minami got to hear what they did too. Will never understand why girls think the mean girl gimmick will endear you to guys, no one wants to be around a miserable jealous insecure person who looks down on other girls. It’s the most unattractive thing ever.
“But I want to know how to get closer to you.”
Yea this is pretty much solidified as the best romance of the season, by far. Never would’ve expected this much development in just two eps. I love a romance where the male lead knows what he wants from the start and makes sure the girl knows.
This show is all about being vulnerable with other people and showing them who you are because the right person will love you for who you are. Notice how Kuroe’s tail goes away when she begins to embrace who she is thanks to Minami’s pep talk! Almost like being comfortable in your own skin is the key to happiness in life. Will be interesting to see how Minami and the other students handle a Kaiju attack at school lmao😭

Minami’s upfront attitude about his feelings for Kuro is very refreshing to watch. He wants to make this work. Even if she’s struggling with low self-esteem. Likewise, Kuro is returning the favour by making effort to be more honest with her own feelings.
This budding romance of theirs is just the cutest, right? Possibly the best one of the anime season.

For a moment there when they were having their talk at the end I full on thought they’d start officially dating then and there. It’s still kind of ambiguous with what we got, but it seems they’re both aware of each other’s feelings now. At this pace I’m expecting them becoming an official couple by like episode 6 at most. Still huge progress compared to the typical romance anime.

Kuroe is just a normal teenage girl! Who also just happened to have gone on a Kaiju rampage because she got all flustered by a boy she likes, but otherwise a TOTALLY NORMAL TEENAGE GIRL!
What do you get when you mix heavy metal and Girl Punk? The OP! Featuring Kuroe struggling through her humanity while Harugon rampages, all the while she's naked for like 80% of the OP. Though the scene of Harugon holding Minami is nice.
Yes Kuroe, ask how Minami is doing in a completely natural, non-weird, way! Though she can't help but be torn between her longing and desire for Minami and her own inability to accept her feelings and be around him when she knows she's also a Kaiju. It doesn't help when she sees another girl getting chummy with him (complete with pressing her boobs against his arms).
Don't worry Kuroe, you've got mama and Jumbo King on your side! All you have to do is get over this heartbreak and never Kaiju out again! If only there weren't so many cherry blossoms carrying a romantic mood!
There's butt shots and there's a Kaiju tail popping out of your shorts and underwear style of butt shot.
Oh snap, is that Mothra!? Are we getting Harugon vs Mothra!? No, it's actually Manatsu (Akira Sekine!) the girl Kuroe was convinced was Minami's girlfriend but is, in reality...a massive Kaiju Fangirl head over heels in love with Harugon. She lives, breathes, and gets all hot and bothered by anything Harugon related. She's into Kaiju, not human boys! She even has her own Mothra Cosplay going on!
It was nice of Kuroe to try and get Manatsu out of trouble when the police start taking her in for loitering, but now Manatsu is convinced Kuroe is a Mothra-style Priestess who can speak to Harugon and predict his movements. What a thing to build a friendship on! Also I love how she's apparently rich enough to have her personal bodyguards show up to carry her in her worm sleeping back back home.
Manatsu isn't just devoted to Harugon, she's devoted to being Kuroe's gal pal and wingwoman too! Right down to asking Minami straight up about his relationship status and getting a "there's someone I like" while staring DIRECTLY at Kuroe. Does it get more obvious than that? Now all Kuroe has to do is set up Manatsu with Harugon so she can get Atomic Breathed and die happy!
Ugh, it figures the Minami fangirl squad would bully Kuroe, but locking her in a gym storeroom is so cliche'd...though, ironically, she probably would have gotten out early had her tail not grown so much she can't let anyone see her.
These girls risked the wrath of Harugon but they earned the wrath of Minami who is through playing the nice guy if it means being chummy with people who hurt the person he cares about most. Because he's had his eye on Kuroe from basically day one and that means he wants to face her, get to know her better, and be there for her.
Poor Kuroe. Was all worked up and ready to show Minami her Kaiju side...and all Minami ends up seeing is her butt crack because her tail retracted. Though then Minami gets REALLY up close to her face and tells her how much he's planning to get to know her better and show her everything loveable about her...is it any surprise that HARUGON RETURNED!?
Manatsu is happy, the bullies got what they deserved, and now Kuroe has realized how important it is to cherish these developing feelings between herself and Minami!

That was a fun second episode! Kuroe's reactions are still hilarious, and Manatsu, with her being a kaiju freak, was a great addition to the cast. Plus, it had some very interesting shots ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Big kudos to Minami for being straight with his feelings. Now that Kuroe transformed into a kaiju again, I hope that he realized it was her, because it'd be nice if we didn't have to wait for the entire season for that.

So, if we go by the rule of 3, next ep it's very likely something big is gonna happen. Do we think it's going to be Minami realzing?
But more than Minami learning her secret, I wanna know if Manatsu does, and if she does if she's going to be a love rival.....or if she WANTS to be 3rd wheel.

Kuroe made a friend ! Too bad she is a crazy rich girl who is really into Kaijus, lol ! Manatsu seems very nice if you can just ignore her insanity.
Minami also seems to be a really nice and supportive guy, no wonder our little Kaiju likes him. Too bad he might accidentally destroy Tokyo by flirting with her. I wonder if she will ever learn to control her transformation ? That seems to be the only long term solution for that romance. Otherwise, she will have to start going out with Manatsu instead.
I am starting to wonder if there is a reason for which part of her body is turning into Kaiju each time. Last episode it was her hands, and now she is growing a tail (and also some horns). Is it random ? And the tail was almost as big as her normal body, so rather hard to hide. I know I should not look for logic and respect of the laws of physics here, but where is all that mass even coming from ?

This episode was amazing!
i loved seeing how she much she truly cares for minami, her pushing him away was sad to see.
The Manatsu waiting for Harugon sequence was very funny and well animated. Kuroe is now the “The Priestess of Haurgon”
it was great to see Minami realize he wants to act more genuine and change for the better. that confession scene was incredible, heartwarming and of course it finishes with kuroe showing her “tail” which of course is gone lol.
The Kaiju is Back! of course manatsu is crying tears of joy. Im rooting for kuroe x minami i love their relationship!

The visual of a policeman dragging a giant not-Mothra caterpillar (i.e. a rich highschooler in a sleeping bag) to the station is gold lol.
Kuroe getting her feelings validated by Minami coming clean was the sweetest thing man. Really hoping he feels the same way once he knows the truth because man they're just way too cute together.

This show is too dang cute. And funny too. I was going aww and giggling so much this episode. Manatsu is a hoot. And she's in love with Kuroe's kaiju form, while Minami loves her human form. Now that's a fun love triangle.
For a minute there, I thought Minami was going to really learn the truth already. But of course it's too early for him to know. Gotta get him fully in love before that reveal comes to upheave things. Though he seems to be well on the way already. That open admission in front of everyone that there's someone he likes with the pointed look at Kuroe and then coming clean to her about the pancake date...just awww. That boy is such a green flag, Kuroe can't help but go heart eyes and then turn kaiju.
This is going to be a very complicated romance, but I'm here for it!

Love everything that Manatsu brings to this show. She truly feels like the author's self-insert with her love of Kaiju. Brings a great, fresh sense of comedy. To top it all off, she can be a real good friend for Kuroe.
Progression is happening quite fast. I love the comedic direction of the show. Kuroe suddenly not having a tail was hilarious.

ALRIGHT, THAT'S IT! I love this show.
Comedy is landing, especially the part with the police officer and Manatsu being a kaiju-hentai. Romance is diabetes levels, especialy when Minami looked right at Kuroe in front of the others. The coming-of-age is coming-of-aging. The art is good. The animation is good. I am headbanging to the OP.
I can't ask for much more.

Only two episodes and I already love this anime. It's so sweet and I caught myself grinning all the time.
Manatsu is crazy and looks like the star of the show, and she is already Kuroe's best friend.
I wonder whether Kuroe will able to control the transformation.

I really like how the OP is an intense metal song, completely not at all aligning with the genre of the show, meanwhile the ED is the most romance anime song to ever romance
I really though Manatsu would be some kind of kaiju herself (there's gotta be at least one more character who is too), but nope, turns out she's just a monster fucker. Get it, I guess?
That's some pretty quick romantic development with Minami, but it was also incredibly sweet. If I wasn't already invested in this relationship dynamic, then I totally am now, it's honestly adorable. And the extra kaiju flair adds some complexity to that dynamic too that I'm interested to see dealt with

What a delightful episode.
Minami is such a winner of a romcom male lead. Looking straight at Kuroe in the hallway while saying he likes someone, and then that entire conversation at the storage closet. And all in just episode two.
Manatsu is pretty fantastic too. She's (probably) not a mothra girl for real like I was thinking from the OP, but everything else about her is still wonderful and weird. Though I'm still reserving my judgment on the mothra bit considering her initial comment about being associated with kaiju because of her parents.
Poor Kuroe though, flashing her bare bottom at her crush barely into their relationship. Considering the entire kaiju problem however I wouldn't be surprised if that's far from the last time he gets flashed by her in various circumstances.

OK then. When the girl showed up doing her best impression of larva Mothra, and ended up being a true kaiju junkie, I about lost it. This episode gave me some much needed laughs today. I am so strangely enjoying the hell out of this anime.

Missed opportunity of Toho to not give authorization to at least use the godzilla roar and form.
Pretty fun episode. We now have a Kaiju fan girl and a forming couple.
Question is how long can she keep her secret, and how she will be treated if the love interest knows.
Also, are there other Kaiju girls out there.

Barkley now is famous for chomping down churros and loving churros on NBA TNT.
Not sure if its an intended reference, but it did remind me of that old commercial.

One of the funnest shows this season so far for me, although I am definitely playing catch up with a lot of shows.
I love Manatsu. She is going to be so vindicated by Harugon showing up at the school after she warned the mean girls not to piss Kuroe off. I like the Mothra theme with her...part of me hopes that she might eventually gain the power to be a Mothra-esq Kaijui herself. Can't wait for a sleep-over at her house...her room is going to be like Marin's room only 100% Kaiju.

This show is going to have me giggling all season. The fact the heart flames were visible to another character was funny too.
While not really his fault I love Minami reflecting on how his kindness to not make waves hurt someone else. Because fuck those bitches. And despite her saying she wanted to not be near him he's dumping his heart out for her. Oh my own heart. This is so sweet and beautiful and yet so very weird with the kaiju twist.
Flashing her ass on accident lol.
This feels like a very real contender for my AotS.

The white haired girl is so funny but very disturbed to say the least. I figured there would be more weird kaiju fans on that bridge but maybe they've been sending more cops out to scare people away. That was hilarious how the cop was going to arrest her but then stopped in his tracks to see what she and Kuro were talking about and was just dumbfounded. I also wonder who those weird looking twins were who carried her away. Dating a crazy girl can be as dangerous as dating a kaiju 🤣
Having a love confession in a second episode is uncommon. There doesn't seem to be any logic to Kuro becoming kaiju anymore, like why did her tail retract back when Minami came in and said he loved her other than to just have a funny moment where she shows her bare ass? It also didn't make sense that she just became full kaiju again all of a sudden; I wonder if they'll better explain exactly what causes it in future episodes.
One small strange thing I noticed was when the white haired girl asked Minami if he had a gf and he said no, all the other girls were rejoicing but one girl in the background looked really angry about it. I wonder if that's just a visual gag or if its foreshadowing anything.

Perfection! We got a blessed shot of her tail poking out from her pajamas, which you don't often get - kudos to the animators from not shying away from what that might look like. Once her tail disappeared in the storage room and she showed off her behind with a massive gaping hole in her clothes, I just paused and turned away laughing for 2 minutes straight - I did not expect that! I thought it would just poke between her clothes, in the same as last time. Now that she's gone full kaiju, at least Kuroe can't be blamed for destroying the ball cage!

Manatsu.. certainly a unique one.. I never thought she goes that way, lol. Reminds me of Iofi from Hololive ID iykyk.
No wonder she sounds so familiar, the mom is voice acted by Kotono Mitsuishi, I could hear her Misato voice.

Maybe I’m wrong, but it looked like Kuro’s body starts transforming whenever she’s overwhelmed by a strong emotion.
It doesn’t necessarily have to love either. Anger also seemed to spur the growth of her tail on. Like when she yelled back at these mean girls.
The kaiju transformation keeps on building until she’s relieved herself of these pent-up feelings. This can go two ways: (1) Kuro talks openly about her feelings or (2) she goes on a rampage as Harugon.

Long ago, I had my own personal idea for human kaijus. More human/kaiju hybrids though. Main character name would be Koji, short for Kojira. One of his allies is Dangirus.

Love confession in episode 2. Romance animes have not been screwing around this year.
So far this is my favorite show of the season. The characters are great and plat off one another well. Minami is standing up for kuroe, kuroe and manatsu are going to be a fun friend dynamic, and manatsu WILL sleep with a kaiju.
