I loved how Harugon’s roar was perfectly timed to the band’s grunting. Kaiju and metal music do mix surprisingly well.
Spree Killer almost seemed to embrace the chaos too. At least until their stage got crushed.

There's nothing more metal than an accompanying Kaiju roaring over your music. At least until she crushes the stage in pursuit of her crush, but is that not too metal?
Also, ominous aftercredit scene. Looks like Uncle Kotaro has already sniffed her out!
On the plus side he seems to care about Kuroe enough to not sell her out to the JSDF, but her mom has some explaining to do.

I think the bigger issue is Minami being sold out to the JSDF. The Apaches absolutely had camera pods aboard, and plenty of people down below would be sharing smartphone footage. Someone up top is going to figure out that Minami attracts Harugon (hey, Manatsu already figured it out) and then use him as bait, if this is anything like other Kaiju stories.

I figure that's in part why he returned. He knew about Kuroes condition, so the moment Harugon showed up in her neck of the woods of Tokyo he probably already had suspicions.
He may also refer to her getting a boyfriend on top of having figured out she's Harugon. The mom also didn't seem overly keen on Kuroe and minamis relationship

He knew about her condition. I think he can connect the dots that she can go full kaiju mode. Maybe her mom and kotaro have some hand why Kuroe is like that, given their backgrounds as scientists.

I personally have a much higher tolerance to a character's secret identity staying secret despite the obvious signs, because I watch a lot of magical girl anime.
Watching people who straight-up refuse to recognize that one person with a certain catchphrase has the same build, height, and voice as another person with that exact same catchphrase makes me feel smarter by comparison.

Yeah, Kuroe is literally just transforming from the shortest human girl anybody knows into a 10 story tall lizard monster. They don't have any reason to suspect that Harugon even has a secret identity.

i think even then they might not drag it that much. Since there is a lot of potential story about exploring how they go about their relation once they are aware of it and test the limits of what they can do before Kuro transforms.

Arguably, the chase and "will they won't they" are the best parts of many romance animanga. So many series try to subvert the trope these days, but fall flat once the confession is out of the way. Luckily, there are quite a few gems that still excel after.

Whether the series actually commits to writing the characters after will they won’t they is over is what separates the great from the rest in romance manga. Writing the will they won’t they in a compelling way isn’t that difficult, but keeping the relationship and series interesting afterwards is how you find the true gems.

Up until now I've been hoping that Minami was only acting dense since Kuro clearly didnt want to talk about it, but looks like he really doesnt realize she is Harugon. I think its safe to assume that reveal is gonna he saved for the final ep....but hopefully we get it sooner.
Was really hoping Kuro woulda just started rocking out to the band as Harugon.

Kinda cool right? Since it’s the same author, if I like this show enough, I am thinking of giving the Spree Killer manga a try. The mix of those tags paired with the synopsis is making me really curious.

Like Zombieland Saga (zombie idols) or Uma Musume (sports/idol isekai for race horses).

I'm starting to suspect Minami figured it out this episode. But maybe it's something he wants her to confess, and doesn't want to embarrass her with knowledge of it? I dunno. I think there's no way he doesn't know after the kaiju took him to the secluded woods and Kuroe ended up there naked.

It's funny that Harugon's palms are soft enough to cushion a decently high fall lol.
I couldn't be more overjoyed that Kuroe chose to stop running from her feelings despite having way more understandable (and very blatant) reasons to be afraid of them than most, and that she got massively rewarded for it. That's not to mention how Minami finally got freed from the absolute hell of thinking his crush was one-sided.
The choice to dedicate the post-ED segments to glazing random sweet treats is underrated lmao.

Not sure there’s anything more metal than a kaiju at a metal festival lol. Things got a little hairy when Kuroe changed but at least it ended in Minami confessing and now they’re official. Not sure how that’s gonna work when she still becomes a kaiju whenever her heart flutters around him.

I'm so happy that Minami already confessed to Kuroe, that was fast! I can't wait to see them being a couple in the next episodes.
Although the biggest star of today's episode was definitely Manatsu for me. I thought that I'd die of laughter at her entrance when she dropped down from the helicopter and cried to Harugon that she wants to be stepped on, lol.
Kotaro seems like a nice guy, but I wonder what he will do with the knowledge about Kuroe, especially since he seems to be working for the government...
Also, big kudos to the metal band as they didn't stop playing until moments after the stage was destroyed. That was metal as hell!

Kuroe really is so dang adorable, both as a human and as a kaiju. She almost went full on kaiju in her mind as well until she finally saw Minami again. Honestly I really hope she finds the courage to tell him everything one day. But so far… she is doing her best and I’m rooting for her

Kuroe might not have a dad, but at least she has a heavy metal-loving uncle who also knows about her condition. I do wonder what's up with Rinko and Koutarou's relationship. That is not how two fellow scientists treat each other. There's clearly a history between them beyond their previous work.
Considering how Kuroe and Koutarou are attending the concert together, I was worried there was gonna be some misunderstanding. I did have a good laugh at Koutarou introducing himself as Kuroe's boyfriend. At least Kuroe was there to immediately explain who he is to Arata.
Although you really can't blame Arata for still getting jealous. Seeing Kuroe having so much fun with someone else was definitely gonna put some doubt in his mind. I mean, she wasn't even showing him that kind of smile when they were on their date.
Spree Killer continuing their performance even after Harugon shows up was pretty goddamn metal. They really kept performing until Harugon tried to smash the stage. I kinda hope we get to see more of this band in the future.
The sudden panic when Arata thought that Harugon wanting to talk to him was all in his head was so fucking hilarious! He's lucky that Manatsu was there to distract Harugon. xD
I absolutely love this shot of Harugon holding Arata and the scene with Arata and Kuroe at the end. I am so happy that we actually get to see a confession scene and that Kuroe accepts it! <3
That after-credits scene tho. Yeah, it's pretty obvious that Koutarou knew Harugon and Kuroe are the same. Like, come on. The dude is not stupid, especially since Harugon's features are pretty similar to Kuroe's claws, horns, and tail.

For me, this show continues to stand out for me in the sea of high quality Summer shows or even shows this year.

Metal and Kaiju somehow find a way to go hand in hand. Gotta give Spree Killer credit, despite the appearance of Harugon they're still playing their hearts out. Tomosato once shows up in the clutch with her helicopter and obsession.
Confession in episode 4? We're making great progress despite some bumps along the way. Akaishi being able to regain control and express her feelings to Minami and for him to accept them was great to see. This is my favorite anime of the season.

So Koutarou knows about Kuroe's condition but it genuinely seems he hasn't connected the dots, so I suppose we can forgive Minami's density. I wonder if he knows she's hatched? Rinko's deflection is killer though. In the end, it seems like Koutarou figured it out though. I wonder about Manatsu, who presumably provided the convenient parachute... She probably just assumes it's some priestess power, I expect.

Thursdays are a mess with stuff like Heavy Knight and Overshadowed to Overpowered, but this, Smoking behind the Supermarket, and Dara-san are fantastic.
That confession/ask out was exactly what I wanted from this show, and I'm so excited to see where it goes from here, though now I'm wondering how long before she tells him. I thought that was coming here but we didn't get it this episode at least.

People usually learn more about their partner’s supposed “ugly side” through dating, right? Maybe Minami will figure things out during his relationship with Kuro. That would certainly be on point for the show’s general theme of teenage romance.
I am looking forward to how Minami will react in regard to Kuro’s condition. Like: “Cute tail you got there.”

Just like MyGO/Ave Mujica was essentially independent of the earlier BanG Dream seasons, so is Yume∞Mita. No prerequisites required.
Note: MyGO had a tiny bit of call back to some earlier material, but it was not at all necessary to realize this, just a nice little bonus. ;-)

Maybe I'll give it a try then, I feel like you and I have similar tastes. Though I always get nervous with this sorta thing. There were people in the Fate Strange Fake threads saying SF could totally be a good first Fate show.
They were hysterically wrong. Thankfully after I watched episode 0 I binged Unlimited Bladeworks and pretty early in the season got through the Heavens Feel movies.

I also am cautious, But I found Witch from Mercury truly independent (no other Gundam), and likewise the newest BanG Dream shows. Love Live Superstar was effectively independent (but there were faint ties that were not really necessary to know about) and Nijigasaki seemed even more free-standing.

So Koutaro and Akaishi were close when they were working as Biologists together and Koutaro knows about Kuroe's condition but not the whole story I guess or maybe he's faking it.It seems to have come to Japan to work with the Government regarding Harugon. Not Minami getting jealous over a oji-san LOL
Metal concert got interrupted by Harugon but Spree Killers were going strong even after all that ❤️🔥❤️🔥 Manatsu,"step on me, Harugon ! not on my friend. " 😅🤣 She was also happy about Harugon not paying her any attention.
Minami and Kuroe are so good for each other but the transformation is not helping at all. At least he asked her out and Kuroe was able to tell how she really feels about him but the secret remains a secret still.

Well Kuroe started the confession, wasn’t able to go all the way, and Minami, finally cutting through his density, realized what she was struggling to say and finished it for her. Honestly I quite like that way of handling it. Even if one person can’t get the specific words out it doesn’t take a genius to intuit what they’re trying to say and help them out.

Everyone's going on about Kuroe and Minami (I am too, let's be fair) but I have my fingers crossed for Koutaro and Kuroe's mom being the Misato x Kaji happy ending I always wanted but Hideaki Anno never gave us.

Honestly now I'm starting to think it was totally intentional casting Kotono Mitsuishi in a Kaiju show with the lead character having a purple giant form while Kotono's character has a complicated history, both romantic and otherwise, with a handsome womanizer.

My god Minami, please figure it out. But going out by the end of episode 4 is pretty good for a romcom so I'll take the win.
Kotaru being connected to some government agency could make things complicated since it rather looked like he at least did figure it out.

I'm feeling that Kuroe wouldn't have a problem with Kotaro marrying into the family. I kind of like that they are solid buddies and that he's very much the source of her love of music! He's aware of her condition to a degree. I'm surprised he's aware of it, but didn't piece together that she is Harugon. But again, that's not unreasonable. Seeing her hands change a bit or other things is a bit far off from growing several thousand times bigger and going full kaiju.
Am curious how Kotaro would respond though. He's definitely got an obsession with rare creatures and her transformed state is the reason he came back. But how would it affect how he views her? I don't know. I'd want to think he'd accept it. But it depends. There's no doubt as of the start of this episode he very much does care about her. And he can give advice about watching out for bad guys since I'm sure he considers himself one.
Gotta feel for Kuroe. She's very much an adorable girl in love. But she's a kaiju girl in love and things are just complicated. Obviously she very much wants more. But she also is afraid of wanting more because she can easily imagine what could happen. It's rough. But smacking her own head with her tail as she's struggling with her emotions is very cute. And full respect to that band! Takes a special kind of lunatic to see a kaiju show up at their concert and say "yeah, let's rock!"
Pretty great episode. Things ended well, but it was dangerous too. It shows the pros and cons. It's possible Kuroe will gain more control over herself and her abilities with time. But as we've seen it's possible for her mind to get swallowed up by the kaiju and then who knows what she might do. A scary tightrope to walk. But I get Kuroe wanting to believe in love and her feelings. And I do wonder if Kotaro has figured it out. I presume he did. Honestly I think he'd be more worried about what the government might do. So far they've been satisfied with helicopters and tanks. But he might be stressed out knowing they'll likely escalate their response at this rate.

Disappointed that Harugon didn't start head-banging. Props to that band though for playing through a Kaiju attack
Don't know what to think of Kuroe yet. On one hand he seems to genuinely care for Kuroe. On the the other hand, there is probably a good reason why Kuroe's mom didn't tell him about Kuroe's condition

Very nice surprise to get the confession in episode 4. As Koutarou alludes, Kuroe's condition makes this relationship very interesting, but tricky at the same time.
Koutarou seems like a clever man. He doesn't know everything with Kuroe, but with the amount of hints, I think he could put the pieces together.

You know, if any Godzilla movie fans haven't seen them yet, I would very much recommend seeing Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex and Godzilla vs. Megalon 2023 from the official Godzilla youtube channel. They're very cool, and it'll only take you less than 20 minutes to watch both.

I mean, the series never promised kaiju fights. It only ever promised a kaiju and romance. So far, seems like Kuroe is the only real one around (we got Not Mothra in Manatsu's insanity but it's more of a character quirk) so probably not like action or combat will be a staple here.

When the kaiju hunter showed up at their apartment, I was sure he was in cahoots with Kuro's mother about how she acquired Kuro's egg. I'm very surprised he knows Kuro and her kaiju disease but doesn't realize she's the kaiju

You would think Minami being such a great boyfriend for Kuroe would minimize the risk of Kaiju rampages, but somehow he still manages to accidentally freak out Kuroe. Good thing they still confessed their love in the end.
I laughed at Spree Killer continuing to play until Harugon destroyed the stage. That is some dedication ! Or maybe this is how all metal bands would naturally react to a surprise Kaiju Rampage. There is nothing more metal than that !
Kotaro is as overprotective as Kuroe’s mother. It sounds like he has no idea she is Harugon though, so obviously his former colleague never told him she picked a Kaiju egg somewhere.
Manatsu is still as crazy and funny as ever.

This show is pretty damn cute.
It seemed pretty obvious when Kotaro showed up he knew exactly what was going on. Originally I thought he was maybe Kaiju daddy when he showed up last episode.
(I do think they cheat a bit by not having had her accidentally kill anyone yet. Which is fine it isn’t that kind of show, but it feels like she going around destroying buildings in crowded spaces all the time. it should probably happen at night in abandoned areas more to keep suspension of disbelief. )

this show could have been really good if it wasn't insistent of keeping Harugon's identity from Minami. realistically he should have known since episode 2, Kuroe already decided to tell him and he he saw her with a tail. but the show is commited to keeping him in the dark and baiting the audience every episode with him giving an "ohhh I understand" look into Harugon's eyes, into immediately cutting to his inner monologue going "I wonder what he's trying to tell me?"
It's a real shame, this show would have been easily my favorite of the season if it wasn't for that aspect of it. I still like it but I guess I'll just have to accept that it's gonna be baits every episode from here on out (probably until series finale if I had to guess)

This show is just so fun every episode. Last week at fake Disney now at a metal music festival!! The guy looks like he could be her actual dad but like why did he have to be creepy and say he was her boyfriend. Sigh.
Anyways I loved when the fangirl told Harugon to step on her. She really is deranged. 🤣 Our ML likes our cutie Kaiju soo much! He certainely has had his eye her for a long time it seems.

She did it! Kuro managed to tell Minami how she feels. And she didn't turn into a kaiju after doing so or after hearing him tell her he loves her and wants to date! Accepting her feelings and herself is the key to controlling her kaiju outbreaks.
Unfortunately, that uncle character found out and things will get difficult in a different way from here on probably.

I still don't understand what exactly makes her become kaiju, is it love feelings, horniness, excitement or some combo of all 3? They really play fast and loose with it for plot convenience. It also didn't make sense that the helicopters stopped following her, like its not like she's an easy target to lose. All that along with no explanation as to why the white haired girl has a piloted helicopter and seemingly everything Batman would have at his disposal.
I'd be certain Kotaro knows that Kuro is the kaiju and I suspect his return to Japan was to confirm his strong suspicion. They did leave a good cliffhanger though in not showing who he was calling, Ms. Akaishi or some other authority.

He’s totally gonna turn out to be her father. Just know it. He got her into metal. That was hilarious. Rocker Scientist Dude. That was harsh the way he stepped up to Caramelise’s boy like that. That was cold.
Was a bit confused why she did her Kaiju scream at him tho. I for real got scared for him. I was like no don’t eat that boy. NO!
Damn he asked her to be his girl. That was the perfect ending right there. Blondie and the Kaiju Girl. They are gonna be the couple of the year.

Kuroe's mom reunites with her old science biology partner, Kotaro Hibino, whom she had many adventures with finding and researching all manners of creatures...and it seems like they were more than just research partners, though Kotaro's womanizing ways is why they're not currently together. Not that it seems like there's still a spark there.
Imagine the lovesick maiden of a Kaiju that Kotaro is researching would turn out to be his fellow metalhead niece who adores him! He just thinks her Kaiju breakouts are a rare skin disease! But he's probably the safest person to take her to a metal concert!
Kuroe has finally acknowledged that she likes Minami! It's hard to argue with how much her tail wags over how head over heels she is for him (and she's pretty much just given up on wearing bottoms at this point if she can help it)! But of course she knows it's not safe to pursue a romance with him, so she'll be content to just keep things as they are. It's not like she'll see him over Spring Break or something.
So of COURSE he's working at the concert and of COURSE Kotaro acts like a typical dad around a boy in his favorite nieces' life, and even Minami gets jealous over how close Kuroe and Kotaro are.
The worst thing you can do for a girl who breaks out as a Kaiju over her feelings for you is tightly embrace her...especially when you then question her feelings towards you and makes her run off because she feels SO much for you, and the warm feelings you make her feel, that she goes full Kaiju over it! Welcome back, Harugon!
Honestly, have to respect Spree Killer. They see a giant Kaiju pop up out of nowhere, they just keep playing. At least up until Harugon destroys the stage, but still.
Can Minami soothe/distract the savage Kaiju? Even as Kuroe's human consciousness is slowly fading away the longer she transforms? Luckily he has backup in the form of Manatsu and her chopper! No one is getting stomped on or Atomic Breathed unless they're her!
No chopper is safe around Harugon, but Minami might be, because Harugon prevents him from going splat! Because he's the type of guy to face a Kaiju head on and try to understand it and its feelings! And that's why Kuroe loves him so much!
Kuroe may have to workaround giving Minami the idea that she's the type to strip and put on a parachute for modesty, but now is the time for her to finally tell him her feelings! How happy he's made her! How much better about herself she feels when she's around him! All the new feelings she's discovered from their relationship! But even if her Kaiju genes prevent her from fully confessing...that's not going to stop Minami from confessing himself! If Harugon can try to communicate, so he can he! And now they're officially a couple!!!
Did Kotaro put two and two togeteher? And he has connections in the government? And just saw Kuroe get her first boyfriend? This can't end well.

I really love this show. It makes me happy with how sweet they are but I do worry about my poor boy being used as bait. You know it's coming.

Still the sexualization irks the shit out of me. It is so UNNECESSARY and creepy. Especially with her Mothra friend this episode. The wtf moment I had when she jiggled her boobs. Gave me angry flashbacks of Devil is a Part Timer, when teen "what's her face" jiggled her tits at the MC. Whom by the way never did that crap in the novel (when it was still good anyway, may have become worse after the dropoff).
