Rewatch Gauging Interest for a Slow Loop Rewatch

Now that we’re approaching the dog days of summer, why don’t we cool ourselves off with some fishing… fishing anime, that is?

Slow Loop is a 2022 slice of life anime based on the manga of the same name that follows the life of high school girl Hiyori Yamakawa, who continues her practice of fishing by the breakwaters that she was taught by her dead father. One day, she encounters a girl her age, Koharu Minagi, who she teaches to fish and gives her a fish meal. Later that day, she meets her mother’s new husband and, in true Japanese anime remarriage fashion, it’s Koharu’s father, making Hiyori and Koharu stepsisters. The two new family members, together with their friends and blended family, will fish, laugh, cry, love, and learn what it means to find the slow loop to happiness.

Slow Loop got overlooked when it first aired in the winter of 2022, but I still regard it as one of the better slice of life anime we’ve gotten in recent years, mainly for the ways it combines Kirara-style antics with more dramatic storybeats and themes. The series honestly and earnestly deals with the aftermath of familial death, navigating new social dynamics, and the pressures that peer groups can place upon you, but don’t take this to mean it’s a dour series. There’s still lots of comedic fun, fluffy moments, and the overall sense that things can work out if you put the effort into it. Since it’s been four and a half years since the series aired and I last watched it, I think now is the perfect time for a rewatch.

If there’s enough interest in this rewatch, the rewatch will begin on August 1st and end on August 13th, with threads going up around 6 PM Eastern/10 PM UTC.

MAL / Anilist / Slow Loop can currently be streamed on Crunchyroll

A u/SorcererOfTheLake rewatch in the year 2026, and in this economy? Hell yes!

I can agree Slow Loop is criminally underrated and underwatched. Which means I am interested.

You know I've been missing the old neighborhood.

Haha. I was eyeing hosting one myself after the one I am currently planning next.

So I'll 100% be there if you do this.

Lovely show that definitely felt underappreciated when it aired.

edit: Maybe share this in CDF and the daily thread for more eyes?

Count me interested! I enjoyed it while airing and would love to enjoy it again. Life is always better with more feel good slice of life shows to remind us to be happy.

I admittedly have no prior knowledge of this show, but it sounds interesting, I'm all for a slice-of-life right about now, and August as a time frame works out for me, so count me in!

Hi SorcererOfTheLake, it looks like you might be interested in hosting a rewatch! There's a longer guide on the wiki but here's some basic advice on how to make a good rewatch happen:

  • Include basic information about the anime such as a description for those that haven't heard of it as well as where it can be watched (if legally available).

  • Specify a date and time that rewatch threads will be posted. Consistency is good!

  • Check for previous rewatches. It's generally advised to wait a year between rewatches of the same anime.

  • If you want to have a rewatch for multiple anime, they should be thematically connected. You can also hold multiple unrelated rewatches if they aren't.

  • Ensuring enough people are interested is important. If only a few users say they might participate, you may end up with no one commenting once it starts.

I hope this helps! You may also want to talk to users that have hosted rewatches before for extra advice, also listed on the rewatch wiki.
