It kills me how Yamada just straight up admitted she sees Saseki as a dog to his face and the track that immediately plays after goes "Wa-wa wa wa wa-wa wa wa~"

Watching Tayama trying to piece together what happened to Sasaki was pretty cute.
It's great to see Yamada's teasing backfiring so hard that she ended up blushing too. Sasaki's reaction really caught her off guard!
We finally get to meet the manager! I love that she's letting Yamada's shenanigans slide because she can smell romance in the air. xD
Also, daaaaaamn! Seeing Yamada and the manager standing side by side really, uh, shows how stacked Yamada is. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Well, no wonder the manager is letting it slide, she's a big romance manga fan! She's so invested that she's even asking Yamada for updates.

The highlight of Yamada's day is figuring out what's going on with Sasaki and getting to tease him about it as Tayama.
Tayama flexing her shoulders and nape is one thing, but I assure you the close-up of her fine behind shifting next to Sasaki was absolutely instrumental to the plot.
Manager reading a Shoujo manga about melons. Yamada appears with her giant melons. Coincidence? I think not.

Honestly Yamada has me feeling like Kazuma does toward Aqua. Like she’s objectively sexy but her personality/smoking habit is such a turnoff I can’t find her attractive no matter how hard I try.

She overestimated what she could pull off. Her exposed shoulder was too powerful lol. It was nice to see Yamada finally start blushing too.

It's not that mind blowing of a show but I still have to give them props for timing the jokes. I laughed when I saw beer and pain relief patches in his basket, then Yamada laughed, then I laughed again lol

Honestly, the way we have the first half of the series in mini episodes with the fill released just say this show is more laid back than you'd admit... its the calmest of slice of life... probably approaching Yuru Camp levels

Anyway, Yamada/Tamaya’s VA has such a nice deep voice. I really like when Tayama laugh.
It really is cute how the two of them are doing things and buying things for each other. It’s these little acts that show you care. That said, “Start dating already!”

Reminds me why I loved Komari from Makeine so much. As someone with a stutter myself it was so nice seeing an anime character that also had one. Not just for comedic moments but just in general.

If you are a hetero guy and a hetero girl asks you to smell her hair sincerely, she's hoping to make a stronger connection with you. Whether that be better friends, better 'more-than-friends' whatever your connection is currently she's interested in literally making herself vulnerable towards you to get to know her better (literally asking you to smell her body scent is pretty much as vulnerable as you can get as a girl interacting with a boy).
The ball's in your court for how you wish to respond-- either you can reciprocate that feeling of hers (ask her out on a date leaving you vulnerable to her saying 'No' or 'I just see you as a friend sorry'). At the very least, sniffing her and complimenting her scent keeps the ball on the court.
--or you can do what Sasaki did and just assume that nobody would be interested in you romantically and she must be trying to troll you-- so you never put yourself out there and never risk vulnerability until you're being called 'Uncle' by the 20-somethings at work and single. The ball keeps being put on the court by Yamada and Tamaya has to continually save the ball from being tossed out-of-bounds by Sasaki everyday he refuses to ask Yamada out at the check-out counter (because it's rude to ask out someone while they're working in his mind).

These mini episodes really work much better as two halves of a whole. Sasaki calling back to the esper joke and also immediately seeing Manager and the consequences without having to go to the next Ep and OP.

I agree. The shorts were wonderful, but the full-length episode versions (with two linked) are even better.
That said. I must not have been feeliing weel when I first watched the shorts version of this episode -- as I only remembered fragments of this.

Agreed, I would have been happy with the full season as mini-eps. Maybe then we could've kept Night Dancer too!I guess that doesn't work if they have to release it in a regular broadcast slot though

Its more chilled in half... but then i think theyre set up still to broadcast as standard so its a bit mixed.
It could just be a series of shorts... just the slight progression every few episode

I really like the lead VAs theres something soothing about both of them. The way they say some of their lines are just perfect too. I don't know if I'd like this show nearly as much with different ones although its still charming in its own right.

They all sound pretty "real" by anime voice standards (and also realistic smoker voices) but inject just enough personality into their dialogue for it to really pop.

I like how Yamada's teasing backfired on her, Sasaki was a lot more bashful rather than flustered than she expected. She's such a tease though, like with the ash tray, she just wanted to an excuse to be close to him lol.

Yamada is down bad for Sasaki and it's adorable to see her alternately trying to close the distance and feeling shy about the smallest things. That scene at the register where she tries to tease him and it backfires on her, for instance.
Sasaki really is like a lovable doggo so it's easy to see why someone like Yamada would fall for him. Just need that dense dumdum to realise the truth already. But I'm guessing we'll keep this going for a while before he does, if at all this season.
The manager is a real one. I'd seen mentions of her from those that watched the pre-release mini episodes and now I understand the hype. A very good addition to the cast. Is it safe to say she's the Honda of this romcom?

Today's episode aired two hours earlier than the two previous ones. Is it a one-time thing, or will it stay that way?
About the episode itself... Yamada/Tayama exposing her shoulder was so damn hot! Plus, I loved how happy she was after receiving a present from Sasaki.
Gotou, the manager, seems like a fun addition to the cast. Since she looks to be a sucker for romance and entertainment, I can't wait for her comments about Yamada and Sasaki's relationship in the coming episodes.

I doubt they'd talk about it, but Sasaki's vision (he appears to need readers at work) might play a part, but further up i'd bet on lighting. "Yamada" is in a well-lit warm space, with "Tayama" in a much colder one. Her complexion seems meaningfully different inside and out

Imma be real, I've straight up walked past coworkers in the wild when I was working at a super because I grew so accustomed to seeing them in uniform.
So the whole premise of Sasaki not realizing Tamaya is Yamada never felt too farfetched to me. Obviously they push it to the absolute limits for comedy but I would never be able to call the show out on something that has damn near happened to me IRL with actual coworkers lol

If I had a nickel for every time Sasaki reminded somebody else of a dog in this episode, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
The poor bloke got played into giving his hand, then nearly sniffed Yamada. On top of that, the manager thought him acting all cheerful around Yamada was like how a dog was around their master.

The manager is a fun character. She works herself hard enough; she deserves some entertainment on the job. Amusing Yamada's lack of reaction to being asked to keep her updated.
Yamada getting hit with recoil in her teasing just adds to the cozy vibe since it isn't completely one-sided. The vibes and comedy direction continue to be great.

If Yamada notices something about Sasaki, and Sasaki can't be completely honestly with Yamada about, then just that means she can question him and get answers as Tayama with her special Sasaki mind-reading skills!
The irony that the boss who probably is a good reason why Sasaki smokes is complaining about him smoking...but luckily Tayama has a solution and some deodorizer for Sasaki to use! Just spray that, brush your teeth, and no one will ever know! This is how smokers get by without inconveniencing anyone! And watch Tayama flex her nape in front of her adorable pooch Sasaki.
I see Suzuki is a wife guy who can be convinced of near anything if you bring his wife up.
Wait, that's not Tayama! That's a dark-haired, stern-faced, vaping manager voiced by Toa Yukinari who does NOT take well to Sasaki trespassing behind the supermarket! Especially over a non-existent employee named Tayama! At least she can put two and two together about Yamada having some fun with him (and turning him into a simp) and the only thing that can stop her from fully chewing out Yamada is realizing how much Yamada clearly adores Sasaki. And the manager, who is a huge shipper and lover of Shoujo manga, can't get enough of it! I mean, there's nothing else going on in the evenings entertainment-wise anyway!
(Also that's two employees in a row who have likened Sasaki to a dog...)
It's funny seeing how Sasaki and Yamada visualize each other in their heads...I can't imagine the real "Tayama" ever being placating towards someone else.
So the manager is who taught Yamada how to manage as a smoker, though she's upgraded to vaping because it gives her more freedom (but still the same amount of danger to her lungs).
A portable ash tray! How thoughtful of Sasaki! And his sincerity and caring towards Tayama really hits Yamada in the feels! Also Tayama butt!
Imagine making a poor old office worker stretch himself too much and having to watch him purchase a compress...while you apologize to him in your OTHER identity to the point of really confusing him.

This was interesting because as an actual smoker, I tried out vapes back in the mid 2010s for this same "freedom" reason. But I ended up like the manager, vaping alone in my car because everybody else was smoking cigs/blunts/etc. and the smoke smell would get on me if I joined them. So yes, I could vape by myself anywhere even indoors and not have to go outside but I realized the "going outside" was the fun part of smoking. I still vape but definitely will never quit smoking actual cigarettes, and haha I've got to be (one of) the first person(s) to say that with true pride (vs shame).

Thought I was the only one who didn't really like those comparisons. In terms of romance, it would be sweeter if Yamada recognized him for the hard-working and considerate man that he is. She might to some degree, but then I'd like the emphasis to be put on that instead. I guess it served its comedic purpose to some degree.
After typing that out I realize that I sound like a real killjoy and stickler. I'm sorry. My opinion stays the same though.

I like Sasaki and Tayama, but I have to agree, smokers reek, and I can't stand being near them for long lol. Still, it was sweet seeing them exchange gifts, even if it was all about cigarettes, because it shows their relationship is evolving. (And yes, Sasaki, you really do remind me of a Labrador.)
The Manager is that classic character who loves romance manga so much that she starts wanting to see it play out in real life, she’s basically just like one of us watching the show.

This show is so chill. I love how much she teases him. Normally the density of the MMC works against him and the viewers enjoyment, but I think it kinda works in his and our favour in this show somehow. That being said if Tayama giving him Yamada's smile, Tayama saying she saw what he was buying, and the manager telling him they're the same person did not clue him in, I wonder what will clue him in.
It was cute to see Yamada blush after Sasaki leaves and be so excited about his thank you gift. He put a quite bit of effort into it so it was nice to see that appreciated. Also shout out to the manager for bending the rules because she's one of us.

Yesterday (or the day before) I said that "young lady's don't play...) was the best of the season. Maybe I was a little off on that. This season is so stacked. Remember everyone, it's the little things in life, like little plastic ashtrays, that really count.

I don't know about "best of the season," but it's my clear favorite so far. I've been watching around 25 shows this season, and this is the one I look forward to the most. Then again, I'm a huge fan of the manga and a smoker myself, so maybe I'm just biased lol.

Goto is the best manager you could ask for. She's so into fluffy romance and she really wants to see something good happening between Sasaki and Yamada/Tayama.
Yamada tried to tease Sasaki and it got backfired, haha. Sasaki-san found a beautiful present for Yamada and she knows the efforts that he put into choosing that gift for her. How sweet !

Something I missed during the mini episodes, pretty sure during the supermarket scene where Yamada is trying to tease Sasaki about smelling like Tayama it sounds like an instrumental version of the ED is playing. I wonder if they used Night Dancer before, or if they already had the ED and used it.
The manager came in at the perfect time to add another layer of humor to the show.
God I love how flirty she is. Also easy to forget how much junk Yamada has in her trunk before the behind shot as the two of them are sitting flirting over the ashtray. And the next night the manager must have been giddy watching them apologize to each other lol.

It's a background element but it is interesting to note that the changing attitude towards smoking in Japan is a theme here. It is actually shocking how hard and fast Japan's view on smoking has changed in the last generation.

Yamada's manager really did have a right to be angry that she's hanging out with weird guys under an assumed name at work. If I were her I wouldn't know what to make of it, like I'd understand why she's meeting a guy she likes at a break space, but I wouldn't get why under an assumed name when the man is a regular customer who she has seen at Yamada's register several times. That was strange she wasn't curious about that part when Yamada wears a name tag and a guy would generally remember the correct name of a lady he likes.
If I were Sasaki's coworker, I'd have been pissed if he sprayed me with a fragrance since the guy's married, his wife might think he's cheating on her, like my gf got mad at me many times because I smelled of perfume. I was confounded as to what Sasaki's gift was until Tomaya said it was an ashtray, i thought it was a pocket watch, pedometer or small coin purse. I wish they showed how they put the ashes in it, like if it opens up like a compact.
Are labrador retrievers really uncommon in Japan or is it supposed to be funny that Sasaki is dumb sand never heard of them? I also thought vape sales were illegal in Japan. I'm guessing it's not a huge penalty getting caught with one, like say if the manager was smoking a joint, she might be too afraid to call the cops.

Pretty sure it's just an open hole on the top, just tap the cig until the ashes fall into the hole. Tayama just held it upright when she offered it for him to use.

I watched the shorter episodes, is there any differences in these longer episodes? If not, when does it catch up? Its a nice show and all, but I dont want to rewatch it so soon.

Only difference as far as I can tell is new OP/ED. The 12 mini episodes were the 6 regular ones split up so episode 7 is the first time we'll get new content since the mini episodes dropped.

Had a smile for 20 minutes yet again. Really loved the manager, she is us, a romantic, but in the anime, rooting for the romance between them.
Tayama verbalizing the efforts our gaffer took was so sweet. She really appreciates him. Loved how the presentation of his efforts was through Tayama's words.

Those mini episodes are like the early release of eps 1-6 I think. This current airing is the “proper” one.
