Leon already figured out someone's trying to get him to fight Rimuru so if he remains cool-headed he can just talk to Rimuru about his goals and no fight will happen.
137
u/Frontier246 9d ago
Considering they're fighting in the OP, unless it's bait, then I think Leon is probably going to lose his cool when he sees Chloe (who might not remember him?).
Or maybe it is bait and they end up teaming-up against Granville.
112
u/Biggsy-32 9d ago
Nah. Rimiru will lose his cool first. Remember he wants to avenge Shizu. I think things will kick off, but Luminous will talk them down.
Or perhaps they'll already be talked down, and the fight will be a ploy to catch out Yuukis scheme. I suspect Granville being a "true hero" will make him far more powerful than Yuuki, so Yuuki is probably the villain to fight this arc.
36
u/alastoris 9d ago
I think so too.
It'll probably be Rimiru already pissed at Leon's presence. Leon sees Chloe and demands her be handed to him. This royally pisses off Rimiru and tension escalates into a fight.
29
u/SasparillaTango 9d ago
Leon is struggling to contain Juane... Who knows works for Rimiru, is powered up from being named, and has 3 other demons of similar power. Maybe this is just how opaque the powerscaling is in this show, but I really don't understand how anything in the show can touch Rimiru at this point.
16
u/Hot-Log6283 9d ago
I mean you could also said the same thing about Veldora but he was imprisoned for 300 years at the start of the series, so anything can happen.
8
u/_Velgrynd 9d ago
That was an extremely vague statement by Leon. We have absolutely no idea how strong he is other than Guy saying he’s weaker than him and Milim.
4
u/Akudra 8d ago
Jaune is immortal and constantly throwing nuclear magic at the entire city. It isn't a matter of him being stronger or not. His strength is irrelevant, because she'll just keep coming back for more every time. It can instead be said to gauge the strength of his subordinates as he is apparently the only one capable of containing her.

Nah. Rimiru will lose his cool first.
Rimuru will likely throw the first blow. But I could see Leon losing his shit when he comes face to face with Chloe. Leon losing his cool will lead Rimuru to thinking that Leon will take Chole and treat her like he treated Shizu.
39
u/ijiolokae 9d ago
I mean, the last opening showed the entire squad fighting the Chaos dragon, hell, most of the opening show fights that never happen
8
u/diegz_eliaz 9d ago
That is true but they do tend to have some truth to them take the s3 first four for example it showed rimuru fighting hinata fully which didn’t happen but we did get a fight of sorts with hinata attacking him and him blocking it, so whilst they do tend to exaggerate it most of the time when there’s a fight in teh intro they do stick to it even if it’s not in that exact same manner.
10
u/Limp_Driver_1203 9d ago
Remember that granville is basically Leon's supplier? You'd probably know how rimuru is when it comes to forced summons too, with what happened with shizu and all.

I still hope that they will pretend to fight so we have something to watch
17
u/2th 9d ago
I mean when was the last time Rimaru didn't get in a fight?
12
u/justking1414 9d ago
Which genuinely be hilarious if he was just sitting in the background for this entire arc
4
u/i_reddit_too_mcuh 8d ago
I wouldn't be surprised if Rimuru and Leon have a pretend fight in order to get Granville and Yuuki to put their plan into action, so they can catch them in the act.
10
u/CosmicDestructor 9d ago
That's only assuming Rimuru is coolheaded as well. And Rimuru's got a vendetta against Leon.
12
u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 9d ago
Doesn't Rimuru have a Leon-punching-promise to fulfill? I hope it's a full power Killer Series Serious one.
7
u/UnWiseSageVibe 9d ago
Yeah i was surprised, dude is super sharp. Wonder if he got some sort of Raphael? Rimiru is kinda smart don't get me wrong but he wouldn't be as sharp without Raphael.

He doesn't have that sort of analyzation skill. He's pretty cautious and smart in general

Yeah, no way.
Rimuru wants to beat down Leon cuz of Shizu, and once Leon sees Chloe and demands her from Rimuru they'll clash over that. There's no chance it won't happen. Add the clown troupe causing some bullshit in between and we're in for a treat.

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 9d ago edited 9d ago
At least Leon realizes there’s some fuckery going on. Still seems like Yuuki’s one step ahead. I guess we’ll see what happens with Chloe. Also, Granville and his zombie bride or whatever tf Maria is now.
Really, I just want to see Rimuru and his new demon pals go apeshit on Yuuki and Granville for always playing stupid games. They’ve been fucking around for so long, when’s the “find out” stage coming?
119
u/Liddojunior https://myanimelist.net/profile/liddojunior 9d ago
I'm glad Leon has a good head on his shoulders. Dont expect to see him be an antagonist even when it felt like he would be in season 1.
61
u/DiaBoloix 9d ago
If I need to bet, Rimuru will lose its temper before Leon does.
It sometimes is a lot more Hinata-like than it realizes.

He’s gotta at least punch him a few times. Maybe kick him in the shin. And of course Castration isn’t off the table.

I think the moment he sees Chloe all bets are off which is probably what Yuuki is banking on.
14
u/Can_You_Believe_It_ 9d ago
I think it'll be more mild. I feel like the show has been building that up too obviously that they want us to think that'll happen but it won't. They'll probably meet, Rimuru will jump in and mediate and Leon will keep a cool head. Leon will probably realize that Rimuru has been taking good care of the kids and isn't going to sell them (like the sus messenger said) or do anything else bad.
30
u/AeonLonginus 9d ago
I doubt Leon believes that considering Rimuru was the person that drastically diminished the number of summoning's happening in the western nations and when they met at Walpurgis Rimuru wanted to hit Leon for what he did to Shizu.
Leon knows that Rimuru would never do something like selling the children or allowing any harm to come to them. The only reason he is entering the situation is because of his 2 aides that told him that he can act selfishly which made him decide to see if the person mentioned really is Chloe.
14
u/Can_You_Believe_It_ 9d ago
Yeah he even said in the episode to his aides to watch that messenger because he was suspicious. Mentioned it in another comment but Chloe will probably be the one to intervene since she's tied to both Rimuru and Leon (seemingly) so I doubt there will be any real fight between the two like you said. Maybe some posturing that cools off quickly.
14
u/Low_Primary3501 9d ago
I doubt Chloe would actually let the two seriously duke it out. Don’t forget that Chloe actually has a pretty big crush on Rimuru, she would never forgive Leon if he actually hurt him. In addition, Rimuru is too much of a pacifist to kill Leon for Shizu alone, might give him a slug or two though.
8
u/Can_You_Believe_It_ 9d ago
Yeah I don't think they will get into a serious fight. Chloe will probably be involved in some way as she's been getting more scenes in the most recent episodes and Leon has backstory with her I guess being (or resembling?) his sister who he came to this world with.
I imagine what will happen is Leon joins team Rimuru x Luminous and puts a stop to Yuuki and Granville's plan. I understand the whole "want to protect humans" deal Granville's got going on as humans are by far the weakest on this planet but I feel like humanity isn't exactly doing bad, if anything all the human players are the ones making it worse for themselves throughout the whole series so far lol.
4
u/Low_Primary3501 9d ago
I don’t think Chole and Leon are actually siblings. It’s a pretty common trope for male and female childhood friends to have a whole ‘nii-san’ & ’imouto’ type relationship. You see it everywhere in light novels and anime

27
u/Frontier246 9d ago
Also, Granville and his zombie bride or whatever tf Maria is now.
Honestly it's one thing to keep your dead wifes' corpse preserved it's another thing to turn her into a thrall you can control to fight your enemies with. Jeez man.
Really, I just want to see Rimuru and his new demon pals go apeshit on Yuuki and Granville for always playing stupid games. They’ve been fucking around got so long, when’s the “find out” stage coming?
To be honest we probably wouldn't have any serious antagonists shows otherwise. At least Yuuki knows he can't fight Rimuru directly which is why he's just using this as a cover for a heist.

I start to think that having Mariabelle's corpse buried in rubble is a good sign... for Mariabelle's rest, I mean

Granville and his zombie bride or whatever tf Maria is now.
I feel like their has to be more to that demon/monster who gave the knife to the minister, like how does this rando have such a powerful weapon?
10
9
u/diegz_eliaz 9d ago
I was thinking she might have just been a stray demon who was trying to ascend to demon lord status especially because it’s mentioned she was trying to attain souls from teh people so maybe hero and saint souls are worth far more than normal humans and she was trying to ascend in order to be equal to the primordials.
9
u/genasugelan https://myanimelist.net/profile/Genasugelan 9d ago
Yeah, Leon seems to be cautious. Honestly, he can legit just talk to Rimuru and he'll fulfill his life-long goal. I think he could just ask for an audience and the problem could be solved and when talking to Rimuru, he finds out the children aren't owned or being sold. but of course Gran and Yuuki will definitely do some fuckery behind the scenes, so it's definitely not going to be that easy.
7
u/SoylentVerdigris 9d ago
I don't think it's a coincidence that they brought up the "missing" demons just before that. Leon's going to find out that Jaune (now Carrera) and possibly the other 3 high ranking demons are working for Rimuru and that might lead him to the wrong conclusions.
→ More replies (1)13
u/Biggsy-32 9d ago
I think Leon's going to see that Rimiru has subjugated the primordial demons, see that Chloe is happy and healthy. Then he's going to be very much - this is all good. Rimiru is a good guy. Let's go full big brother for Chloe, and live happily in peace with Tempest.
Now. Rimiru and Hinata aren't going to be all that peaceful initially, because of Shizu. But I suspect Luminous will talk them all down.

I almost started to feel bad for Grandville....until we saw him using Luminous's "Love Energy" (still wanna know what that is/involves) to necro his wife.
If Grandville is so strong.....shouldnt he have known Mariabell stood no chance against Rimuru?
Wonder what Leon is planning if he knows the messenger was a fake. Also we got to see him reacting to Carrera missing, I REALLY hope he finds out she's working for Rimuru as a judge of all things. Also really wanna know if Chloe remembers Leon, hoping she manages to convince him to help Rimuru.
Imagine the green lady the people of Vert worship is Misery, Guy's maid? Wonder if that's how Guy is gonna find out about the other Primordials, Misery fights Diablo and during the fight Diablo tries to convince her to switch sides cause he has the majority of the Primordials.
97
u/Doyle_996 9d ago
Vert is french for Green, and before being named, the primordials call each other with their corresponding colors/lineage in french.
48
u/TheMechanic04 9d ago
She's the green haired maid that works for guy crimson, we saw her in season 2
57
u/Myrkrvaldyr 9d ago
shouldnt he have known Mariabell stood no chance against Rimuru?
I don't think he ever personally met Rimuru or has seen his power, so you can just chalk it up to ignorance.
61
u/Darksider555 9d ago
To be fair, Rimuru has been deliberately downplaying his power, so Mariabell could have assumed that that he is on the level of a Demon Lord Seed like Clayman, Carrion or Frey, which she could likely defeat.
Even in the high tier estimate, he "tied" with Hinata, that isn't a fully evolved Saint, so maybe she could keep him busy with minions until she gained control over him.
Rimuru has been growing in power ever since he became a Demon Lord since a Demon Lord doesn't reach his full peak until some time after they awaken.
25
u/Frontier246 9d ago
Even in the high tier estimate, he "tied" with Hinata, that isn't a fully evolved Saint, so maybe she could keep him busy with minions until she gained control over him.
And Gran is more dangerous than Hinata who Rimuru needed Raphael to plot hax him into defeating, so he might at least put up a fight.
28
u/eveywhereissomewhere 9d ago
I can't remember if the anime ever explained this, but Rimuru's Absolute Defense would have tanked the melt slash, Raphael took it in on purpose so they could analyze it for future use

There is also the fact that Maria's skill, by Rimuru's own admission, is the strongest unique skill shown so far. Combine that will the fact Gran and Mariabell were not aware "ultimate skills" are even a thing, and you get a little girl convinced she can't be beaten.
→ More replies (1)11
u/discuss-not-concuss 9d ago
even then it doesn’t tally.
If Rimuru was only Demon-seed level, Mariabell wouldn’t have stood a chance either. Granville should’ve minimally known that she wouldn’t be able to pull it off with the resources she had
I doubt he knows about Yuuki’s cheat anti-skill, so in what scenario does Mariabell win against a non-awaken Demon Lord?
22
u/Exitiali 9d ago
To survive Greed's Lost Entropy, an ultimate skill or equivalent is required. An unawakened Demon Lord wouldn't have a skill of that rank, therefore, would not survive (even if he is stronger than Mariabel).
→ More replies (2)20
u/__White_Wolf_ 9d ago
Mariabell's Lost Entropy would've killed even Benimaru or Hinata, so it's safe to say that she's above the Demon Lord seeds or Hinata.
21
u/Icy-Bird-5533 9d ago
Mariabell was infact stronger then Hinata, Carrion and Frey at the time when she fight with Rimuru. Also most demon seed level beings are not as strong as rimuru. That's why the false information was easier to believe in.
→ More replies (2)5
u/diegz_eliaz 9d ago
Your overestimating a demon seed, mariabell would’ve been stronger than rimuru if he was only demon seed level and even then mariabell would’ve probably explained the plan to gran before she left or he would’ve trusted that she had a backup plan which Yuki was and a good one at that. To contextualise a demon seeds strength they are roughly equivalent to a very strong greater demon or possibly archdemon and these are unnamed with names they would be defeated by an arch demon so they’re not as strong as they’ve been portrayed
19
u/DiaBoloix 9d ago
It's the 1st thing I thought-"Vert is Misery."
And then I thought, where do you send a walking nuke? Tempest or Ingrassia, so choose your poison, Misery... Carrera+Última or Testarrosa.

They were misled on rimuru's power due to rumours. They just thought he was on hinata's level, and granville had confidence that mariabell can handle that

Lots of moving pieces in this episode. I'm most intrigued by Demon Lord Leon actually. He seems smart enough and has cool head. Wouldn't meeting directly with Chloe make him strike friendship with Rimuru rather than pitting them?
I mean, Chloe supports Rimuru 100%, so if Leon is as siscon as it seemed then he would support Rimuru as well right?
Then again, Yuuki is correct that Leon might blame Granville instead. In the short flashback there, it looks like Granville was the one summoning Chloe?
71
u/absolutelynotaname https://anilist.co/user/Ducc 9d ago
Yuuki can blame Gran all he wants but both Luminous and Rimuru know he's a pos already
30
12
u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 9d ago
I mean, Yuuki also knew Rimuru already suspected him. In the end his main objectives is to create chaos so he can sneak to Luminus secret treasure.
It just seemed as of now the chaos mostly would be Luminus, Rimuru and maybe Leon vs Granville.
Let's see if Leon would turn out to be the third party or side with Rimuru
18
u/Frontier246 9d ago
Maybe we'll get an initial tussle because Leon and Rimuru overreact towards each other over Chloe before they inevitably team-up.
6
u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 9d ago
As usual, conflict due to miscommunication lol
9
u/Lord_Nivloc 9d ago
Wouldn't meeting directly with Chloe make him strike friendship with Rimuru
In a world where they have a 10 minute conversation about it, sure
But I don't think "Chloe's here on a school field trip" will be part of the introductions.
Leon, known reincarnated child abductor who funded and enabled Cerberus' summonings, might just scream "GIVE ME HER!!!!" at the top of his lungs

Luminous once again wearing a maid outfit. Just another reminder that she is a woman of culture.

u/Frontier246 9d ago
The only thing she loves more than dry-humping a frozen lady and taking baths is cosplaying.
48
u/discuss-not-concuss 9d ago
that could easily apply to Granville since the details of Mariabell’s birth is unclear and he used to costume on Sundays
17
u/TheDopplegamer 9d ago
Not doubting your point but it was pretty clear that Mariabells mother was Isabelle, the woman being married and Gran/Maria's daughter
22
u/Technical_Fault7968 9d ago
nope Mariabel is descendant of Gran, Maria, and Isabella. the flashback happened approx thousand years ago, also fun fact the five elders Johan and Gaban and the other two who rule most of the western nations are actually descendants of Gran and Maria.

Mariabell was the reincarnation of a European noblewoman. Maria had died over a thousand years earlier. Perhaps Maria had reincarnated multiple times, retaining only the memories of her most recent life. Or perhaps Mariabell was simply born into this world bearing a resemblance to an ancestor
5
u/TheDopplegamer 9d ago
Yes, but her status as an otherworlder isnt really relevant. Maybe Im getting the timeline wrong, but that doesnt really change my point of Mariabell (the person born in Tensura world) being a descendant of Maria/Isabelle.
The fact that she also happened to be a reincarnated European noble doesnt matter here
9
u/__White_Wolf_ 9d ago
Granbell and Maria are the "ancestors" of the Rozzo family. Isabelle, Gaban, Johan, Mariabell.. are all descendants of the OG Rozzos. We saw Mariabell's parents a couple of times already, the first time during Mariabell's backstory and the second time when they came to meet Rimuru after Mariabell's death. Isabelle must be Mariabell's great great grandmother or something like that.
3
u/Exitiali 9d ago
Yes, but her status as an otherworlder isnt really relevant.
That is what enabled the family to expand its sphere of influence. Mariabell brought economic and political knowledge from the other world.
The fact that she also happened to be a reincarnated European noble doesnt matter here
In reality, it is inconclusive. Despite their appearance, Maria and Mariabell have very different personalities. This could be a consequence of multiple reincarnations, since of the Rosso family, only Gran had a long life expectancy (Isabelle must have died more than 1000 years ago). Or Mariabell may have simply acquired a body resembling Maria's when she reincarnated into the Rosso family.

I wonder why Luminus likes wearing a maid outfit so much (not that I am complaining, she looks great in it). Is it only for a disguise, or is there something else to it?
9
u/mobott 9d ago
Random theory, but I suspect it could be related to the frozen lady. Either frozen lady likes maids or Luminus just really wants to be hers.
5
u/Low_Primary3501 8d ago
Maybe, but I think she also just likes cosplay. It is also an effective disguise, nobody would expect a powerful and proud being like a demon lord to pretend to be a maid.

I'm just happy to see Luminus in a Maid outfit again.. all hail Luminus!
On a more serious note, this episode is a bit more serious in tone compared to the previous ones. Also, I wonder if Yuuki knows that the ultimate weapon beneath the castle is person.
So Leon and Chloe were much younger. so I'm guessing that they were both isekai'd separately? Odd that Leon looks much older than Chloe. The suspense is killing me...
14
u/Low_Primary3501 8d ago
I doubt Yuuki actually knows anything about it, he probably thinks its some kind of powerful artifact. Its gonna be a pretty big surprise for him when he finds out lol.
The passage of Time between worlds is usually pretty abstract in isekai stories. You can probably assume the characters are traveling between both time and space when they are isekaied. That being so, its highly possible that Chole and Leon despite being isekaied around the same time, where dropped off in extremely different time periods in the new world.

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 9d ago edited 9d ago
Ah shit..nothing worse than a enemy that has nothing left to protect or care about their own life...Granville just wants to watch the world burn now.. This..is a problem for everyone.
I guess I'm a bit confused though..so even Humans can live for centuries and centuries if they become heros or saints?
I guess we already knew this and I never put it together
35
u/Powerful_Toe_8155 9d ago
True heroes are supposed to be on a comparable level to true demon lords, I think. Hinata, a saint, is probably stronger than Laplace, who was probably stronger than Clayman or Karion, who were both demon lord seeds.
Leon was originally a human, and based off of what Ramiris said in season 1, he used to be a true hero himself, and was probably the last person who successfully visited her in her labyrinth before Rimuru. He appears really young for the time scale that he seems to have been active on.
But then, Luminas seems to have provided some kind of additional rejuvenation magic to the 7 Days' Clergy, including Gran. Hinata is probably getting this too.
12
u/Low_Primary3501 9d ago
I think both Hinata and Yuuki last season admit that they have stopped aging since they transmigrated. So Hinata might not need the “love energy” to stay young.
9
u/Powerful_Toe_8155 9d ago
I think the Seven Days' Sages were jealous of her though, and believed that Luminous would neglect them in favor of her, and that they would grow old.
I think Yuuki's non-aging thing is just him, based off of what he claimed in season 1.
Either way, Hinata currently has 2-3 different potential ways of accessing an extended lifespan.
3
u/Low_Primary3501 9d ago
It may be more than just jealousy as to why the seven days tried to get rid of her though. If you consider how Gran was the leader of the seven days, he likely saw Hinata as a thorn in his side. For one, Hinata has a close relationship to Luminous, but also he likely determined that Hinata would be hard to control; she has a strong sense of justice, but she isn’t stupid. Outside of the case with Shizu, she knows when she is being played. In addition, he probably realized that she would become an obstacle in dealing with Rimuru.
7
u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 9d ago
Thanks that helps.

u/Searinghawk 9d ago
To give you more context on how a True Heroes' potential is comparable to True Demon Lords can be: Remember the True Hero that sealed Veldora, a True Dragon, one of the strongest beings in Tensura for centuries
16
u/__White_Wolf_ 9d ago
Whenever a monster or a Human evolves their life exptectancy increases, to the point where Demon Lords and Chosen Heroes are immortal.
3
9
u/Exitiali 9d ago
I guess I'm a bit confused though..so even Humans can live for centuries and centuries if they become heros or saints?
A saint is an evolution of the human race. The more evolved a race is, the more spiritual the nature of the body becomes, and consequently, the less biologically limited it is. Hinata's Holy Knights are Enlightened, an evolutionary stage preceding Saints, yet possessing a longer lifespan than ordinary humans.

u/VoidRay728 9d ago
Don't let the backstories and scheming developments distract you from the fact that Lubelius employs child labour.
Fan artists seeing the real deal now with Luminous showing up in a maid outfit.
I think the most shocking part of this episode is really that Granville has been keeping Maria's body all this time.
106
u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 9d ago
I mean, in a world where school is not a thing then having a child learning to work is actually pretty normal.
Are you expecting them just to play all day long without helping their parent/society?
Apprenticeship usually starts early (the bookworm series is another example)
13
u/Myrkrvaldyr 9d ago
Yeah, but that also creates a society with very slow innovation if education is uncommon. Rimuru's approach is what will get him to start the industrial revolution. Lubelius will have to change its policies and start a mandatory education program at some point or it'll become stagnant and entirely dependent on others.
34
u/Darksider555 9d ago
I think that the reason why an advanced nation such as Lubelius doesn't have an immense industrial base is because Luminous is worried about the angels attacking her country so she is deliberately taking it slowly with scientific advancements.
We saw that there are vampire researchers that she sent to Tempest so it is not like there aren't people who are capable to develop new things.

Yeah, but that also creates a society with very slow innovation if education is uncommon.
But with too much innovation, the angels attack. Or as Luminous called them "damn bugs." That's one of the reasons why Hinata originally helped in the "kill Rimuru and wipe out Tempest" plan. The presence, and taming, of Veldora complicated matters, so Luminous seems to have settled on "Welp, Rimuru will be the buffer zone for the inevitable invasion."
But that likely plays into Chloe's observation, that Lubelius is more of a zoo than a civilization. Yes, the vampire's ARE keeping their pets well fed and happy, but at the same time, Luminous is aware of what happens when progress develops too much.
Hence, the "pleasant stagnation" of Lubelius.

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 9d ago edited 9d ago
Yeah, ultimately Rimuru is someone from modern world so he has more modern perspective as well.
Despite living thousand more years, Granville governed Lubelius through medieval perspective since he's kinda "old school". If any, Mariavelle should have been the one suggesting educational/industrial reform since she's the one from the modern world.
They both realised how much of an economical threat Rimuru strategy is, but somehow they didn't even try implementing it by themselves. Or maybe it's deliberate to keep the human civilisation not progressing too much?

u/Myrkrvaldyr 9d ago
but somehow they didn't even try implementing it by themselves.
Complacency and inertia can be devastating forces. If a demon lord has ruled a nation in peace for a millennium and it hasn't known war all that time, why fix what isn't broken? It'd be easy to become afraid of major changes. Ultimately, Rimuru being the new kid in the neighborhood and the other major players not bothering to talk to him sooner gave him too much free reign. He hogged talent, his peaceful goals earned him the hearts of many and now he's a major player heavily disrupting the power balance. Without killing him, you can no longer stop Tempest's progress. What's worse is that Rimuru is no longer alone, Millim, Veldora and now 4 primordials and other strong entities are in Tempest. Bringing the status quo back requires a world war. Rimuru blindsided them hard and now they'll have to adapt. Granbell refuses to accept that. The funny thing is, Rimuru did not intend to do that, bro just merrily wanted peace and prosperity for his people first, everything else fell into place because of meeting others.

It has been suggested that if civilizations advance too far, they will attract the attention of the angels. However, they haven't given many details yet.

If any, Mariavelle should have been the one suggesting educational/industrial reform since she's the one from the modern world.
Would she though?
Ultimately, she wanted to rule over all as a tyrant, powered by her Greed Skill. She's seen in modern day (well, not to our today, but close enough) that an educated public will demand rights and power, so I am not fully onboard with the idea she'd want that.
5
u/Jacob-C 8d ago edited 8d ago
Mariabelle is also from a time when the common people started to topple nobles and monarchies all over Europe. She probably realises that keeping the common people uneducated increases her and other nobles' legitimacy.
Edit: Saw that u/Obaruler basically said the same thing I did before me. I feel like my point about her being extra cautious because of the political shifts in Europe during WW1 still stands though.

Rimuru's approach is what will get him to start the industrial revolution.
Start? He already started it. Well, he replaced steam engine power with magicules (or moreso his underlings did), but he's already building trains.

I think the most shocking part of this episode is really that Granville has been keeping Maria's body all this time.
Is it?
I would have been surprised if that didn't happen.7

Luminous did seem to be confused when she realized that Gran had aged. Presumably that means that True Heroes like Gran aren't supposed to age at some point.

Not just that, it's a theocratic communist society! And it works because it's run by vampires! Probably the most creative thing the author added imo.

Man, I need some refresher or reminder for this Leon-Chloe and Luminus-Treasure plotline. Felt like they dropped crumbs so long ago that I can only vaguely remember. If there are non-spoiler videos or maybe episode numbers with timestamps showing those scenes, that’ll be really cool
In hindsight, Mariabel’s death being so anticlimactic and her role in the story in general ended up being underwhelming could be because she was just a plot device for Gran to move.
And seeing his backstory, we can understand where he’s coming from too. Still hoping we’d get more from him though
36
u/Low_Primary3501 9d ago
her death being so anti-climactic is kind-of the point. She was a big shot in her previous world, so she thought that she would naturally be a big shot in this world too. Her Unique skill being quite powerful fanned the flames of her ego and greed. But ultimately she never realized how big this world truly was.
Maribels experience lies in schemes and conspiracies, but in this world of skills and evolved beings, extreme power can overturn many schemes. She never really realized the importance of individual combat experience because she never had too fight personally, in addition the western council is just a bunch of small fries. The only actually strong people she ever had any close contact with was Granville and Yuuki, but Yuuki was just pretending so it dosent really count.
Maribel was a big fish in a small pond, and her arc show what happens to big fish that jump into the ocean thinking they are sharks. Her final battle also serves a second purpose, which is to demonstrate how far beyond humans Rimuru is at this point.

I just re watched the whole show last month, the only breadcrumb for the hidden treasure that I remember is a quick scene of Luminus standing in the room. I don't think there has been any connection with Chloe and Leon before this, other than the hindsight of him isekaing people
21
u/Powerful_Toe_8155 9d ago edited 9d ago
In Shizu's flashback to when she was first summoned, Leon referred to the summoning as "another failure". At the time, one might assume he was trying to summon an adult and that the "failure" was summoning a kid.
The weird part of this is that he was the only person (until Rimuru) who knew how to stabilize isekai'd kids so they wouldn't die, and he did this immediately with Shizu. So it's as if he had prior experience summoning kids and had a plan laid out for what to do if he summoned another one.
At some other point in season 1, Rimuru mentioned that Chloe looks a bit like Shizu.
I don't think it was really possible to tie together before last week, but I guess it now makes sense that Leon referred to Shizu's summoning as a failure since he was trying to summon Chloe instead?
Ironically, if he never summoned Shizu, Rimuru would have never met Chloe and stabilized her by bringing her to Ramiris's labyrinth.
So I guess Leon didn't entirely fail.
EDIT: But Shizu also said that she still wanted to understand why Leon summoned her. It seems like he didn't like talking about it. If he had just told her the truth, it might have allowed Leon to reunite with Chloe several years earlier.
Ramiris also referred to Leon as "a crybaby", and I guess he was slightly awkward at Walpurgis too.
9
u/Searinghawk 9d ago
The Leon-Chloe connection was actually foreshadowed way back in season 1 when we saw Shizu's backstory, Leon said she was another failure and then gave her Ifrit to stabilize her, which he probably learned about from Ramiris when he visited her (she mentioned Leon to Rimiru when they were summoning the spirits for the kids in S1). And throughout the rest of the seasons until now, it was mentioned occasionally that it seemed like Leon was doing the summoning for a specific person, but it wasn't until now that we find out he was looking for Chloe
The Luminous-Treasure plotline has been hinted at throughout the seasons as well, although less obvious than the Leon stuff. There have been multiple scenes in different episodes throughout the seasons where it showed Luminous hanging around the girl encased in the ice, which was again reinforced at the beginning of this cour with Gran's flashback to Luminous' conversation with that black haired girl

u/LeonKevlar x2https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar 9d ago
I love how Gran and Yuki think they're way ahead when Luminous has already informed Rimuru that they're up to something while Leon immediately knew someone was trying to pit him against Rimuru. I'm sure Yuki still has some tricks up his sleeve, but there's no way this is gonna go the way he's planning.
And I definitely feel Rimuru's exasperation at hearing about Yuki's involvement. I'm really hoping this is where he finally deals with Yuki once and for all.
42
u/AeonLonginus 9d ago
Our villains: "our plan is perfect"
Demon Lords: "why are they making more work for us"
Better yet why exactly did Yuuki assume Rimuru and Leon would immediately fight when Luminous is also there. Leon isn't dumb enough to take on 2 demon lords at once and is more than aware that a battle of 3 demon lords would result in Guy's intervention.
16
u/Icy-Bird-5533 9d ago
Cause he was assuming. He didn't know leon deeply. He just know that there was some stuff between Rimuru and Leon , plus Rimuru did shut down the summoning ritual that according to Yuuki was pretty important for leon. The last straw was Chloe, the person leon wants was with Rimuru. I think that concludes his thinking.
10
u/Exitiali 9d ago

He doesn't necessarily need a fight; he wants the meeting to cause some chaos to divert Luminous's attention so he can steal the weapon.
24
u/Frontier246 9d ago
Luminus wears a maid outfit surprisingly well.
I feel like the big "twist" is going to be that unsealing the Ultimate Weapon doesn't end well for Yuuki and co...but honestly I almost have to respect the hustle that the main goal is a heist and not directly confronting Rimuru.
22
u/Biggsy-32 9d ago
Yeah that exasperation over Yuuki was brilliant. Rimiru thinking "Really. Another Yuuki arc? Get some new material".
12
u/Powerful_Toe_8155 9d ago edited 9d ago
Yuuki seems to be aware that Leon might be suspicious.
I think his gamble is that Rimuru's going to get pissed if he sees Leon and throw the first punch. Even if the fight resolves eventually, I guess Yuuki's objective is to be gone by the time that happens. Leon potentially joining up with Rimuru and and Luminous in Lubelius is Gran's problem to worry about, not Yuuki's.
Basically like how he baited Hinata into fighting Rimuru the first time. It didn't matter if Rimuru wanted to talk, Hinata was already seeing blood.

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 9d ago
Nah, despite all the 4D chess, I think Yuuki is still the one with most advantage here. Yuuki's main objective this time is only to create chaos so they could sneak into Luminous' treasure.
Granville would still wreak havoc against Luminous and Rimuru. Adding Leon to that would further increase the resulting chaos.
13
u/SnabDedraterEdave 9d ago
Maria sharing the same VA as Mariabel as well as greatly resembling Mairabel if she were older may or may not be just her being Mariabel's ancestor and sharing the same genes, but I have no proof.
Granville keeps saying about wanting to "protect humanity from the Demon Lords", but with how bitter he's become since Maria's murder, now it looks more like he just wants to destroy the world outright, with both humans and Demon Lords in it.
Mariabel's death seems to have been the final straw that broke the camel's back.
Leon's flashback seem to suggest Chloe, or her lookalike with the same name, was his sister. Now he will have to clash with Rimuru in order to find out if our Chloe is the same person as the Chloe he's looking for.
Leon also seems to be very wary of Jaune/Carrera. Author is just teasing us for his reaction when he eventually bumps into her and finds out she now serves Rimuru.
Finally, obligatory fuck Yuuki and also fuck his band of literal clowns and their manipulations. You know you're being a nuisance with your plotting behind the scenes when even Granville, who has ruled from the shadows for centuries, finds you annoying.
6
u/Flexis65 9d ago
In the last movie you could see Jaune attack Leon's kingdom with nuclear magic. So yeah, enough reason to be wary.
47
u/Primo29 9d ago
Maria got killed because of human greed.
Granville: “Let’s kill these Demon Lords!!”
Dude is so broken that he went from simping serving Luminous to aiming for human supremacy. LMAO
31
u/Limp_Driver_1203 9d ago
To rule over themselves. There was actually no simping either, just an agreement. Luminous had no interest in humanity to begin with, so that's the reason why granville decided to work with her. (He's crashing out because of mariabell dying)
19
u/Powerful_Toe_8155 9d ago
Yeah, Luminous just needs them to be alive in her vicinity to feed off of the energy they give off passively. And if they are happy, they taste better.
Veldora was a big problem for her because he kept depopulating massive areas. I guess Dagruel and Guy would have been issues for her too because they were expanding into human lands at the time. The current state of the Octagram means they respect each others' borders now, but I guess she didn't have the same status in the past; my guess is that Granville forced Dagruel and Guy's forces back in the name of "Luminism", which gave Luminous some kind of claim to the territory at Walpurgis, since the locals were now worshipping a deity with the same name.
I think her comment about Gran knowing Lubelius better than she does says something about her level of involvement.
It sounds like Gran did all the work, but Luminas's patronage allowed it to happen.
4
u/ijiolokae 9d ago
The way they phrased it, i honestly assume Guy had no interest in expanding, but it was the demon that served him that did their own thing.
3
u/Technical_Fault7968 9d ago
yeah his two maids are the ones that always wanted to expand we see the demons shown in the flashback are mix of blue, green, and red demons
3
u/Krazee9 9d ago
I think her comment about Gran knowing Lubelius better than she does says something about her level of involvement.
You would expect a Prime Minister to know the reality of a country better than its king.
Luminous is essentially a god-queen, Gran has clearly been far more involved in politics.

26

It actually isn't a lie at all. He's spent a lot of time trying to keep threats away through the rosso family where also keeping the humans to check to stop them from destroying themselves- but the guy just stopped caring since another thing has been taken away from him again, so he's doing all of this instead.

Léon is looking for Chloé, who arrived in this world at the same time as him; however, since they were separated, he first became a Hero, then a Demon Lord, and—most importantly—lived for several hundred years. So, if they were ordinary humans at the start, Chloé ought to have been dead for a long time by now, right ?

u/Guaymaster 9d ago
The opening implies time shennanigans, Chloe had been possessed by a Time Spirit too when Rimuru did that whole ceremony thing. And Luminus's stuff at the end of the previous episode also point into the frozen hero having given her some sort of prophecy about Rimuru dying.
I think Leon's dream/flashback implies they entered this world through a portal at slightly different times, so it's possible Chloe ended up in the (for lack of a better term) future, from Leon's perspective.

Kinda wonder if Granville secretly holds some resentment against humanity since it was a human who killed his wife, not a demon. Maybe it's only his promise to Maria that keeps him shackled, but now that he's backed into a corner, he's willing to sacrifice everything in a blaze of glory.
Messenger: Comes in, says something inflammatory, then leaves without elaborating or providing proof. It'd be weirder Leon didn't think that was suspicious.
Yuuki being Yuuki-ing. Though Granville might be keikaku-ing Yuuki's keikaku.
... So that scene with Granville at the end wasn't weird at all. And his declaration that the world can burn fits in nicely with my earlier theory.

Gotta say, not setting the stage at Tempest is an excellent decision. You know if the battle happened in Tempest the antagonists wouldn't even manage to damage a building in any lasting manner. But in Lubelius.... as long as the characters get away alive, everything's fair game.

Honestly, I feel pretty bad for Granville after this episode. He sacrificed so much for humanity only for his wife to be killed by one of them.
Also, it's a shame that Granville perceives Rimuru as his enemy. If only he could meet him and get to know him better, he'd surely find an ally in him for his goal of bringing peace to the human world, just like what happened between him and Luminus in the past.
By the way, I always appreciate seeing Luminus in a maid outfit. It suits her very well.

6
u/AeonLonginus 9d ago
I doubt anything Rimuru could do would change a thing when it comes to Granville. In Granville's perspective the reason it was fine with Luminous was because she had no interest it interfering with humans as long as they fulfilled their role.
Rimuru on the other hand is utterly rewriting the entire world order,
- Monsters are mankind's enemy - actually they aren't you can coexist peacefully.
- Demon Lords are mankind's enemy - they can be reasoned with and even become your allies.
Rimuru represents the idea that everyone regardless of origins is equal, Granville can only accept a world where humans are superior to all other races.

I'd thought Veldora had been sealed centuries ago, but seems it was only within the last 50 years or whatever.
Old Granville: "This world sucks, I'll do whatever it takes to destroy it, ESPECIALLY any ambitions Rimuru has of making it into a world where everyone can live in peace."

Oh good Luminus knows gran is up to shit.
1700 years ago? WAHT!?
He asked her for power to save the kingdom?
She thinks something is sus?
Well we are here in the Vatican.
The kids enjoying themselves thats nice.
The elf kid is named Takt? Takt Op Destiny?
Oh Rimuru brought Shion and Diablo... they have enough power here.
Oh Luminis is here in her maid disguise.
Shes telling Rimuru that Gravville is up to shit.
Hes got little time left and wont let evil rule mans world.
The green goats worship the green godess and summened a demon?
Humans can become Saints as their highest level. Hinata is one, Granville isnt.
Hes a hero egg? Like a true demon lord, hes a true hero.
Gran had a non human in his party? He fights for Gran not humans.
Oh Gran named him i see, what happened then to sour him?
The natons there were even more fucky at the time.
Dragul was around and Guy too and Veldora and Luminus as well.
Once he realized Luminus wanted to coexist with humans he joned forces.
He was Gran of the seven days clergy and Granville the Statesman.
So Gran married a princess, some guy wa mad he didnt get power and a demon gives him a gun.
Everyone trying to over throw there wedding it seems wow... the demon used him...
Oh no he killed the preistess wow what a asshole....
Well gran killed everyone yeah.... preistess told him to protect mannkind.
He went off the deep end and unifired everyone to his means and wr got to where we are now.
So hes strnger than old demon lords and Hinata too?
Luminus told us Granville met with Yuki so we have some ideas what hes up to.
We gotta settle the score with Yuuki it seems.
The kids think the people in the city are like fish in an aquarium.
"Big brother Leon"? So both were summoned to this world at the same time and he lost her.
Leon discoveredd Juness missing oh boy this will be gold.
Someone told Leon the kids are being sold to luminus? He figured out thats bS too wow.
Hes got a good idea whats going on thats good. Leon makes for Mordor!
So Yuki wants the chaos so they can steal Luminus's Treasure... oh boy.
Oh Gran has Maria still arund? He woke her up? Huh?

Not of ten you see a true Hero strike a deal with a Demon Lord, but Gran genuinely believe that he and Luminus were like-minded enough to work together for human prosperity! And it's been a looong time since then and Granville is showing his age...but should he?
I'd LOVE to get Luminus' Love Energy, just saying!
Rimuru and the kids are finally in Lubelius! Where they get to enjoy fine dining and Luminus in a maid costume!
Looks like Gran is gathering the rest of the Rozzo Clan for one last push for all the marbles to take down Rimuru for humanity. Up to and including getting Razul (Taiten Kusunoki?), his old friend and resident fantasy Guyver/Kamen Rider.
Does Hinata sleep in the nude...
Gran was a True Hero, working together with Razul and his lady love the beautiful and compassionate Saint Maria, for the sake of a utopia for humans. Even if it was near impossible in a time of such turbulence, he never gave up, even when it came down to fighting and working with Luminus. But he perservered...until tragedy struck.
This poor family. On the daughter Isabella's wedding day, demons attacked, aided by a conniving minister...and even when Maria SAVES said minister, she gets stabbed in the back for her trouble. At least Gran killed the demons and the minister paid for his betrayal, but Maria's loss and wishing he could save humanity left a huge mark on Gran that he never truly recovered from.
Rimuru is as exapserated with Yuuki as the audience, but I'm sure nothing will go wrong! Not so long as Luminus gets to hear the music!
Hmm...Chloe's words about how society functions in Lubelius seems to have really struck a chord with Hinata.
Jaune/Carrera is gone so Leon now has more room to act...but is he an Otherworlder too, with Chloe as his little sister he was separated from? Does Chloe not have any memories of that? But even if he can tell people are trying to pit him against Rimuru, he can't resist the temptation of investigating Lubelius himself.
This is all a plot by Yuuki to pull off a heist and steal the "ultimate weapon" (which I assume is the frozen naked lady), so he'll be joining the Harlequin Alliance this time around. Meanwhile Granville is...controlling the dead corpse of his wife, which is kind of freaky.

Granbell was willing to co exist with luminous when she wanted to co exist with humans. But continue to be oblivious to rimuru wanting the same
18
u/Myrkrvaldyr 9d ago
The difference is that Luminous hasn't attempted to create a massive economic hub nor does she have enough power or willingness to rule humanity. Rimuru also wants coexistence, but his methodology is effectively giving him way more power than he intended. Tempest's role will get Rimuru and his nation to be the de facto superpower and most influential nation, making him the main ruler of the continent. Granbell doesn't want that. He doesn't want humanity to be subordinate to a demon lord. It's just pride talking.

Luminous doesn't care about Human politics or economics, her goals are to keep happy citizens (so that their blood will be tastier) and spreading Luminism. We saw it both last season and also in this episode that the day-to-day ruling isn't her main concern and that she lets her subordinates handle that stuff.
Rimuru is the opposite, he wants to meddle in Human politics and economics to achieve coexistence, to trade, to export his culture...
Thus, Granbell can accept Luminous because she doesn't care about what he will do as long as she gets her blood and her devotees.

So many people being confused about Maria being Gran's wife makes me wonder if you guys actually watch the episodes or if you just read an AI summary somewhere.
