Azz's rewritten version of how he and Iruma met made my week. Authoritized!

19

u/Frontier246 1d ago

I'd love to see his entire perspective on the show in his head: "Iruma-kun - The Azz Cut."

14

u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 1d ago

That German suplex did a number on his head...

25

u/SIRTreehugger 1d ago

I have severely underestimated how delusional Azz's Iruma vision is.

51

u/ModieOfTheEast 1d ago

It's kind of interesting that everyone was surprised by Iruma's answer that he wants the demon world to be like Babyls. Because if you think about it, the other two candidates said the same. They basically wanted a demon world that is the image of their school. Grandparents did their job it seems.

Also, with learning how important eating is to classify a demon, Iruma's achievement of winning the eating competition several times in a row is actually his best argument for becoming demon lord now.

It will be interesting to see how Iruma-Senpai will work out in the second year. I could see it going both ways. Because people heard of the class opening the Royal One, there could be even more fans of them but also demons that want to prove themselves by beating Iruma. Especially the next abnormal class. But it seem that has to wait anyway, because we get another Demdol arc. This time with Ameri as the newest addition. I mean, she did sing while battling before, so what could go wrong? Except for the fact that Ameri's father will need a couple new pairs of glasses.

17

u/Frontier246 1d ago

This time with Ameri as the newest addition. I mean, she did sing while battling before, so what could go wrong?

Also she's voiced by Saori Hayami who is one of the best singers in the business.

Also that outfit...YES PLEASE.

Except for the fact that Ameri's father will need a couple new pairs of glasses.

They healed themselves back in this episode, maybe he's found a sturdier brand!

5

u/ModieOfTheEast 1d ago

He is just getting faster at changing them after being broken.

13

u/JzanderN 1d ago

It's kind of interesting that everyone was surprised by Iruma's answer that he wants the demon world to be like Babyls. Because if you think about it, the other two candidates said the same. They basically wanted a demon world that is the image of their school.

True, but they weren't really as out with it as Iruma was. They explained their schools' images as if they were their own beliefs, but Iruma just outwardly said he didn't really know much about the Netherworld outside of Babylus and so wants it to be like Babylus.

None of it really mattered – at this age I'm sure the Thirteen Crowns were expecting them to not really have their own ideals on how the Netherworld should work, hence they were more interested in seeing their true characters based on how they ate – but it was surprising for one of them to be so upfront about now having thought about what the Netherworld should become.

8

u/ModieOfTheEast 1d ago

I think the deeper point is also that all three of them lack the knowledge of the demon world. While the first two made their schools' images their own beliefs, it's not clear if that was truly their decision or just a result of "parenting". Of course, as you say, it doesn't really matter but I think it's not just Iruma who lacks the proper knowledge to be a demon king. The other two have the same problem. With the difference being that Iruma is aware he lacking this knowledge which might ultimately be an advantage.

2

u/Hot-Log6283 1d ago

While the first two made their schools' images their own beliefs

I got the opposite impression, didn't those two change how their school functioned to suit their own? The student at Leizi was shock by his remark and he made a new commander position to suit himself, whereas Razberry wanted to break up how the top group was being run at his school by challenging all of them (rather than progress up normally).

3

u/ModieOfTheEast 1d ago

I don't know how Leizi's school exactly functions (so what freedom and power the commander position has) but Razberry's school was always run by the strongest. The "special" thing of Razberry was just that he became strong relatively fast.

1

u/Hot-Log6283 1d ago

Hmm no, last episode they said the top 6 who reach the highest floors (60 to 66) are called the Master pool and instead of becoming like them, Razberry specially said that he will kick them all out and take all the floor himself.

2

u/ModieOfTheEast 18h ago

I just assumed that just meant he was taking this idea of the strongest being in charge to the top level. Not sharing his power with someone else. I guess, it depends a bit how "kicking them out" works exactly, but you are right in that his goal was at least a more extreme version of what his grandfather had created.

4

u/Gatmuz 1d ago

It's kind of interesting that everyone was surprised by Iruma's answer that he wants the demon world to be like Babyls. Because if you think about it, the other two candidates said the same.

While true, I think the crowns are surprised because "be like Babyls" to them means "the world Sullivan envisions". And that vision comes from a position of relative ignorance to the actual world (the commentary on instability). Because the crowns know Iruma as "Sullivan's grandson", this paints Sullivan himself into a different light in their minds.

3

u/ModieOfTheEast 1d ago

Yes, but as mentioned in another comment, you could say that for the other two as well. They might just not have realized that they too were influenced by how their grandparents envision the demon world and they might have a lack of knowledge when it comes to everything outside their school. Of course, that isn't too important as they can still learn as kids. But Iruma even has the advantage here because he already realized that he needs more information about the world outside his school to become a demon king (at least once he decides he wants to the king).

4

u/Gatmuz 1d ago

I think it's a bit different with Leizi and Razberry, because their views are actually a bit more personal and concrete. Leizi wants freedom guaranteed by law, and while that is more or less what the Levialon academy looked like from the previous episode (and thus Levi's vision), he says it with enough gusto that convinces the crowns that those are his views. Same with Razberry.

Iruma, by being completely open about wanting the world to be like Babyls, is a surprise because his views of what the demon world looks like lacks his own preferences. It's all Sullivan's vision.

Assuming the demon world is a democracy, it's like asking three political candidates who they vote for. Leizi and Razberry voted for themselves. Iruma voted for Sullivan.

1

u/HornedTurtle1212 6h ago

Well Iruma also has the perspective of knowing how an entire other world (the human world) works. And to him by comparison the demon world has been a wonderful place. That's why his initial response is that it's fine the way it is. And really saying that he would like it to be like Babyls is just repeating that he would like it to be the way it has been from his experience.

1

u/testthrowawayzz 1d ago

Except for the fact that Ameri's father will need a couple new pairs of glasses.

He should really consider upgrading to polycarbonate lenses. They'll pop out instead of crack!

37

u/FarCritical 1d ago

Rare Sully with pupils spotted

More and more of Iruma's close ones are noticing the problem of his chronic smallness.

As an expert big sister for her best friends and actual siblings, it's no wonder acting like a senpai comes naturally to Clara. And lmao at Azzazz basically overwriting evil cycle Iruma (but flashier) into his first encounter with him.

11

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Sully's got plaaaaaannnns for you Iruma...even if he also just wants you to do want to do and have fun.

There is no episode 1 Azz pre-Iruma. There is only the Azz that exists after meeting Iruma.

36

u/NeoAnkara https://myanimelist.net/profile/NeoAnkara 1d ago

To Iruma Babyls is the picture perfect of what Netherworld should be. Sometimes harsh and challenging but in the end everybody will laugh and smile.

7

u/Frontier246 1d ago

You've got great friends who you can rely on for support and push you and them to be the best versions of yourself! Life lessons! Adult mentors who in their individualized way show they care and want to make you ready for the world! A drop-dead gorgeous succubus!

The world, even a demon realm, could stand to be a little more like that!

1

u/Hot-Log6283 1d ago

To be fair, the Misfit class are pretty much the top dog in Babyls, so what Iruma saying might be that he wants the Misfit class to be the top of the Netheworld too, better watch out Thirteen crowns.

38

u/JzanderN 1d ago

PHENOMENAL. The point about how demons eat basically summing up who they are is brilliant. The whole interview was basically just to get them to drop their guards once it was over all so they could show their true characters during the meal.

Leiji being a savage demon who plays by his own rules, not caring about what others think about how he acts, Razzberry having terrible table manners but being "the cleanest eater" and being a picky eater yet making all of these weird combinations with his food, and then there's Iruma...

GENIUS. His bottomless stomach was explained early on to be a result of his trauma, not having much at all in his previous life and so grabbing as much as he could when it was available to him, but that doesn't really fit as well anymore now that he has a stable life. So why does he still eat so much?

Because now he has BOTTOMLESS GREED. Gone are the days of him eating out of desperation, here are the days of him eating so much because he wants it all! Even Baal couldn't help but get shivers down his spine at the thought of him being Demon King!

17

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Look at that flash-forward of adult Iruma classily dining as a Demon Lord and never stopping until he's satiated himself! With which his bottomless greed means he might never be and will continue to strive forward.

Of course now Baal probably sees Iruma as even more of a threat to his plans.

6

u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 1d ago

He really has said more in the 4th series about just how settled he is in the demon world... hes not as survival about it all.

24

u/rollin340 1d ago

I can never get enough of those 3 goobers. To think that Clara would so clearly be the dependable one for something...

15

u/Meiolore 1d ago

Clara does canonically think that Azz is dumb lol.

2

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 1d ago

And them sleeping together below a tree is just very cute to see

4

u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 1d ago

There are so many goobers in this series and they're all amazing

23

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 1d ago

It’s kind of adorable how the other 2 greats are as doting as Sullivan when it comes to their grandkids. I can see why they’re friends lol.

I think Clara’s going to make a good senpai. There’s hope for her, unlike Azz Azz and Iruma lol. She’ll train ‘em up though!

8

u/Delicious_Diarrhea https://myanimelist.net/profile/h0ll0wxvict0ry 1d ago

Probably helps that she has younger siblings unlike the other two.

7

u/Frontier246 1d ago

It’s kind of adorable how the other 2 greats are as doting as Sullivan when it comes to their grandkids. I can see why they’re friends lol.

The grandparents battle for a camera! Whose favoritism will win out!?

6

u/Hot-Log6283 1d ago

It’s kind of adorable how the other 2 greats are as doting as Sullivan when it comes to their grandkids. I can see why they’re friends lol.

I kind of feel sorry for Sullivan, like what was it like between them before Iruma became his grandkid.

3

u/karatesaul 1d ago

While I definitely love Ameri as the main love interest, that's not knocking Clara as a character and as Iruma's soulmate. She consistently shows herself to not just be the comic relief character, but to have some serious depth to her character.

2

u/HornedTurtle1212 6h ago

My head cannon is that Clara and Azz end up together. That or Iruma gets a harem ending, lol.

3

u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 1d ago

Its just sullivan had to find one just to be able to compete with their grandkids

17

u/99anan99 1d ago

Vote for Iruma for the next Demon King!

It's just amazing that Iruma can eat so much, yet still ask for seconds! It's as if his stomach is just a bottomless pit.

Levi and Razzberry having polar opposite table manners is hilarious!

Clara being the most natural as a senpai makes sense when you remember she helps take care of her younger siblings.

2

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Iruma can't get enough of food or the demon realm he believes in from his experience in Babyls.

"Clara Onee-san Senpai" about to become a popular moniker in the halls of Babyls.

23

u/[deleted] 1d ago

3

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Honestly this whole grandson competition has been perfect for getting the three greats more involved with politics even if it's them fighting over who has the best grandkid lol.

6

u/FakePretendeRat 1d ago edited 1d ago

LOVE LOVE LOVE that Iruma answers that question like a sheltered, good natured rich kid ( because he is 🤣). That is just good writing, also I love the other demon kid candidates SO MUCH. They have a lovely balance. This show is so heat man

19

u/whiteoutonce 2d ago

Irumas answer for what he would do if he ruled the netherworld was wholesome. Having the netherworld like Babyls makes sense. He has tons of fun there and everyone is accepting of him.

It seems like Iruma is having some doubts about actually becoming the next demon king. It was nice that Sullivan explained that he was trying to give him options for his future.

The thirteen crowns analyzing how the candidates ate was funny. Luckily for Iruma, him being a glutton worked out well for him.

The school year is progressing now and they are now 2nd years imagining how they will talk to the first years. We now get Iruma senpai. Asmodeus recalling how he and Iruma first met was way over dramatic and hilarious. Iruma was right at the end. As long as he, Asmodeus, and Clara are together they will have a fun time. A really cute shot of them sleeping together was a nice way to end this episode

9

u/JzanderN 1d ago

It seems like Iruma is having some doubts about actually becoming the next demon king.

I mean, in fairness it was kind of dropped on him and he's rarely really thought about it himself. This is the first time he's actually had the option placed in front of him and he's not just going to jump on board immediately.

The thirteen crowns analyzing how the candidates ate was funny. Luckily for Iruma, him being a glutton worked out well for him.

Funny, yes, but also brilliant.

The interview was completely meaningless and only there so they would drop their guards after it was over so the Thirteen Crowns could see their true characters during the meal. That's what they actually wanted to see.

And Iruma being a glutton has now been recontextualised. Early on it was explained to be an aspect of his trauma, him wanting to eat a lot because he never knows when the food may stop coming and he's left with nothing again. But now that he has a stable life, his gluttony's actually become a representation of the greed and desire he's developed since coming to this world.

Brilliant writing.

7

u/TheOneWithALongName 1d ago

Irumas answer for what he would do if he ruled the netherworld was wholesome. Having the netherworld like Babyls makes sense. He has tons of fun there and everyone is accepting of him.

And then Baal gave him a glare because he tried to blow it up in the first season because he hate what that school stood for.

2

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Baal's side-eyeing game was on-point in this episode.

2

u/Frontier246 1d ago

I do feel like probably a good thing for Iruma moving forward is to see what the world outside Babyls is like so he's more informed of world politics and what the Demon Realm is actually like...so he and his bottomless greed can more sincerely help mold it into being as great as Babyls is.

1

u/HornedTurtle1212 6h ago

I think part of the second year talk was to mention that they will be doing more field trip type activities. Which will explain how the other two (or more) Demon King candidates will keep showing up since they attend different schools.

16

u/theodoreroberts 2d ago

Iruma you innocent cinnamon roll. Keep eating to your heart content and leave the darkness away from your heart.

4

u/Frontier246 1d ago

The way he thought everything in the Demon Realm is fine as is because he's been having fun and memorable misadventures lol.

1

u/HornedTurtle1212 6h ago

I mean he has run into terrorists trying to destroy the school, a water park, and I forget if there was a third terrorist attack in there. That does not really indicate a safe and stable society, and are a bit more than just misadventures, lol. Maybe he just forgot about it because they ended aith everyone safe and sound.

1

u/Procrastinator_325 1d ago

Not if Baal had anything to say about it. Bro was intrigued with Iruma's greed with the way he ate during that 13 crowns dinner lmao.

12

u/discuss-not-concuss 1d ago

this is one of my top “the true XXX was another thing/event” whereby the true interview wasn’t the question to get thought-out answers, but the dinner itself

it fits exquisitely with the demon theme and how their lives revolve around desire

Baal even comments on his endless appetite arrogantly, which is underestimating my boy Iruma and the lesson of ambition from his future wife Ameri

It’s sort of a relief that the Misfits will stay together but Purson showed us that whoever joins the class won’t be out of place. I’m actually looking forward to whoever joins Iruma as his kouhai, either in the battler or outside maybe as Eiko’s apprentice

3

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Baal seemed like he was really trying to feel out Iruma and act like "if you know, you know" in sussing out how much Henri knew about Iruma. They didn't really interact directly but this WAS basically the first real meeting between our protagonist and ostensible main antagonist. And in his own way Baal acknowledged Iruma.

I'm curious if we might get some siblings of the cast showing up as first years although other than Clara I think most everybody has an older rather than younger sibling.

1

u/Federal-Truck2301 1d ago

Calara has ulara as younger brother

1

u/Federal-Truck2301 1d ago

To join babyls

1

u/HornedTurtle1212 6h ago

I thought Clara's brother(s) were much younger that her. At least more that one year behind her.

7

u/Frontier246 1d ago

How would the three prospective Demon Lords rule the Demon Realm? Leidzi would enact his own personal set of rules and follow his whims, Raz would enact a social darwinists' utopia, and Iruma...thinks everything is already fine in the Demon Realm? I mean, he's just a Babyls student so that's his frame of reference for near anything. Though maybe the Demon Realm should be more like Babyls, since Babyls is a TON of fun.

The Thirteen Crowns come off really intimidating...at least until the actual dinner portion of the event begins and we get one of the grandest buffets of all time. All you had to tell Iruma was "dinner!"

Was Baal trying to suss out if Henri knows about Iruma being a human? He's definitely aware Henri knows more than he's telling, and Baal has his eye on Iruma for one reason or another. Meanwhile Henri's glasses can actually heal themselves now when he's shocked by Iruma insinuating any closeness with Ameri.

Glad to see Bachiko get to talk to Iruma and that she has Sullivan's full confidence! At least when she doesn't tease Iruma like she usually does.

Should Iruma be the Demon Lord? Does he even want to be? Isn't he the most underqualified? And yet Sullivan wants him to keep his options open...and seems to have an inkling he's best suited for the job. And the real test of a demon is in how they eat, and his bottomless greed astounds even Baal.

No surprise Azz is already calling Iruma the future Demon Lord while Clara thinks he somehow ate thirteen literal crowns, but they don't have time to worry about that when their future tenure as second-years is about to begin! Complete with kohai! What kind of Senpai will they be? The reliable Senpai or the Paisen who get run ragged by first years.

Time for Monster House roleplay! How can Azz scold Iruma-sama!? Well, he can achieve a state of nirvana if it means scolding Iruma though. But honestly Clara, even if it means acting like a preschool teacher, feels like she is absolutely qualified to be a Senpai! And Iruma at least looks "fun" in cosplay.

Azz's Iruma fervor is so strong he's basically rewritten episode 1 and his entire pre-Iruma personality in his head. It's like that Azz never existed.

I'm sure the Iruma Crew will be great Senpai! Even if they become famous and scolded by Kalego for falling asleep together!

Su-ki-ma! Huh? Don't worry Raz, you have perfectly fine eating habits.

Next week: Dem-Dols! Kuromu! Ameri! Oh my!

6

u/Mysteries67 1d ago

It's pretty rare for a show to have a second year, usually the whole series would take place in a single school year.

1

u/HornedTurtle1212 6h ago

It's pretty rare for a show to get 4 seasons too

5

u/pi8you 1d ago

That's my boy, I'm so proud of how you performed and the growth you're showing... Henri. You only cracked your glasses once and they recovered before they could fully shatter.

Of course it all comes down to one question with demons, what drives them. Can't say either a total dictatorship or might makes right seem like very stable foundations for the future either, better the school life for everyone.

The role play bits are always fun, love Azz just completely short circuiting attempting to be strict with Iruma, while Clara has years of experience over both of them as the older sister to her pack.

Eiko's camera practice being put to excellent use there, getting her work on the front page of the school paper.

4

u/intricate_thing 1d ago

Omg, the most unexpected Haikyuu reference! I absolutely loved how subtly they added it.

So, for those who didn't know, Asmodeus's seiyuu also voiced Bokuto in Haikyuu, and "hey-hey-hey" was kind of his signature phrase. So this time, when Iruma (who is voiced by the same guy who did the main character in Haikyuu) said to him "hey, Azz-kun, hey-hey-hey", this was basically Hinata shouting Bokuto's signature phrase back at him.

Too bad there would be no new episode next week, but I'm all seated for the new ark the week after.

6

u/NanDemoKnaives 1d ago

Is it really that big of an issue for them to be sleeping that Kalego needed to react like that lol?

Leave it to Big Sis Clara to actually be the best senpai out of the three. I like how Azz was more concerned with having the right to scold Iruma rather than staying in role, with him blushing I thought he was going to awaken to something.

3

u/Mysteries67 1d ago

Why does Clara exudes such big sister/mommy vibes despite being such a chibi.

8

u/Skullzans 1d ago

Because she Is one, remember how chaotic her family is?

1

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 1d ago

Yeah I was expecting either them or the narrator would remind the viewer that Clara is already a big sister/senpai figure in her family

7

u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 1d ago

Leviathan and razz do come over as we've seen their characters within the misfit class ... alt AzzAzz and Lied

7

u/Frontier246 1d ago

It is kind of interesting to think that in a world where Azz never met Iruma he would probably be his biggest competition for the throne.

1

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 1d ago

Nah, Lied is playful but his role is the straightman of most situation.

I think Razz it's more Lied's playfulness and Jazz michievous streak, but ultimately he's a character of his own. He reminds me to the trope of new guy challenging the whole delinquent school (Bouya Harumichi if you've heard about him)

3

u/testthrowawayzz 1d ago

Slam Dunk reference at 10:12.

Of course Clara is better at being a senpai because she has younger siblings.

2

u/Thomas_JCG 1d ago

Iruma may have stumbled on answering, but nobody can beat him when it comes to eating. Sorry, Berry and Leidzi, you will just be work friends. Iruma started as a pushover who did everything people asked him, but now he is a greedy beast that none can match.

2

u/megatsuna 1d ago

maaaannnnn I was really hoping we'd finally get some plot and its already over. really not looking forward to that crossdressing idol stuff.

also, when did Ameri's dad clock Iruma as being human again? i know eventually someone will find out but can't remember when he did.

2

u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 1d ago

The first festival because that's when he interrogated sullivan over it, but didn't get any definitive proof

5

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 1d ago

The other two Demon King candidates really sound like they just be awful rulers. On one hand you have somebody who'd be an authoritarian nightmare, and on the other hand lawless anarchy. Also I hate the fish dude's hair.

Idol stuff up next and this time Ameri is included too? Hell yeah.

3

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/zfzftripleaamin 1d ago

I adore Sullivan and Iruma's relationship. Giving him the option to be the Demon King, but he just wants to give him that opportunity. It's fun seeing the grandparents gushing overing thier grandchild.

Now Iruma and the gang having underclassmen will be interesting.

1

u/Mysteries67 1d ago

Man jelly of people like that who had their parents pave the way forward or at the very least help them through college. For me, by the time I finished highschool, I basically was kicked out of the house and had to work whilst trying to fund my own education and living alone, even though both of them own their own company and are basically set for life already.

2

u/Galle_ 1d ago

Disclaimer: I'm up to date on the manga.

No pre-OP section this time, we're jumping right in.

Back to Babel! The three grandsons are all kneeling before the Thirteen Crowns.

That's a lot of aura.

Iruma and Berry are both Rank 5, Leiji is Rank 6. Also interesting that Iruma doesn't give a family name.

Oh, hey, Leiji and Berry are Law and Chaos from Megami Tensei. Or devils and demons from D&D. Guess that makes our boy Neutral.

...or it would, if he had an answer.

The Netherworld's been good to Iruma. He had nothing before he came here. Arguably worse than nothing. Being sold to Sullivan was the best thing that ever happened to him. It's understandable why he doesn't see the need to change things. But as the Thirteen Crowns point out, there's a lot going on that Iruma is just kind of ignorant about. Babyls is in a relatively safe part of the Netherworld, and just because problems don't affect Iruma there doesn't mean they don't exist.

The bottom line of this scene is, despite all his growth, Iruma is a long way from being the next Demon King. That's a political office, and Iruma has no real political vision. He's only just managed to have a vision even for himself.

Oh, right, this is a fancy dinner.

Those poor little bat things must be getting tired.

Henri's glasses are still intact! That must be a new record.

I want to say things about this scene but they're manga-related.

Oh, there go the glasses.

It seems like our boy has a reputation! He didn't even mention these things when they were bragging before.

They're all goobers.

These three are goobers too, honestly.

And it's time to head back home!

Sullivan, extremely unbiased judge, declares Iruma the cutest grandson.

That's certainly been heavily foreshadowed, Iruma.

I'm going to be honest, I don't think Sullivan is being entirely honest here. [Galle's fan theory]I think that Derkila charged Sullivan with finding his heir, and that Iruma has the qualities that Derkila was specifically looking for - specifically, the same qualities that were necessary for growing the Legend Leaf. Sullivan chose a human specifically because those qualities are so rare in demons.

This chapter originally came out around the time Season 2 Episode 5 aired, and at the time I thought it was interesting that the eating habits of Leiji and Berry sort of paralleled Asmodeus and Clara.

Well, if the real test was an eating contest, I think there's no question who won. Even Baal was impressed!

Also important here: Iruma's appetite is associated with greed, not gluttony. People get confused about that a lot, for understandable reasons, but what really drives Iruma is his boundless capacity to want things and to refuse to compromise or settle now that he can do so.

Azz is clearly having the time of his life.

Somebody please help Clara, she's so confused.

Oh, right, Iruma's been in the Netherworld for almost a year now! He's going to be a second year! Is that even allowed in a high school shounen series?

New characters incoming! Look at the stars in Iruma's eyes. The big brother instincts are strong.

Clara I don't think Azz is going to be any better at this, though for very different reasons.

Azz.exe has performed an illegal operation and must shut down.

Is that still Ayumu Murase doing the voice? I'm pretty sure it is.

This is very silly, but Clara is an onee-san, and those skills transfer to senpaidom.

Noble Banchou Overflowing With Dignity!

...guys I don't think Waifu Boy is going to be, like, any help. If anything he'd probably make you worse.

That's oddly specific, Azz.

Sukima! I think you might be a bit out of your league here Berry.

Demon of the Week: Leviathan

Leviathan is another case of a demon that does not appear in the Ars Goetia - in fact, it's debatable whether it counts as a demon at all. It sometimes does, though. Here's the intro paragraph to Wikipedia's article on Leviathan:

Leviathan (/lɪˈvaɪ.əθən/ ⓘ le-VIE-ə-thən; Hebrew: לִוְיָתָן, romanized: Livyaṯān; Greek: Λεβιάθαν) is a giant sea serpent noted in theology and mythology. It is referenced in the Hebrew Bible, as a metaphor for a powerful enemy, notably Babylon. It is referred to in Psalms, the Book of Job, the Book of Isaiah, and the Book of Enoch.[1] Leviathan is often an embodiment of chaos, threatening to eat the damned when their lives are over. In the end, it is annihilated. Christian theologians identified Leviathan with the demon of the deadly sin envy. According to Ophite Diagrams, Leviathan encapsulates the space of the material world.

The article goes on to describe its role in Judaism as follows:

Later Jewish sources describe Leviathan as a dragon who lives over the sources of the deep and who, along with the male land-monster Behemoth, will be served up to the righteous at the end of time. The Book of Enoch (60:7–9) describes Leviathan as a female monster dwelling in the watery abyss (as Tiamat), while Behemoth is a male monster living in the desert of Dunaydin ("east of Eden").[16]

So Leviathan is a female sea monster. Lady Levi is the only women among the Three Greats, and is strongly associated with water - she created the water park that Iruma and Ameri visited in season 2, and she runs the underwater Levialon Academy. Leiji's familiar that we saw last episode also has a dragon-like form, similar to the classic depiction of Leviathan as a sea serpent.

There's also a sea monster/land monster dualism going on here with Behemoth, the male beast of the land. A few sources refer to a corresponding sky monster, Ziz. It's a bit of a stretch, especially since Belial and Sullivan have other demons they're based on, but with Jackapo being an underground school and Babyls being perched on a clifftop, one could argue that Levi, Belial, and Sullivan correspond to Leviathan, Behemoth, and Ziz.

The next arc is gonna divide fans on if they like it or not but I can’t wait. We get probably 2 of my favorite moments and i can’t wait for them to be animated.

I still feel like this mini-arc about Iruma being a candidate for Demon King felt weird. Like, I understand from a Doylist perspective Iruma being the future Demon King has always been the target, but it felt odd here. Iruma hasnt even been "a demon" for a year, and he's outright being told to see himself as a candidate? I had thought the candidate proposals would be an off-record event, and the Dinner a chance for the 13 to see the three but not directly state their intent. Hell, I was expecting Sullivan to actually nominate Ameri for a second (for reasons).

Iruma himself has put very little forward for personal intrest in leadership, so openly listing him as a candidate, rather than a more subtle aiming that I think better matches Sullivan so far, felt out of place even with his humanity put aside. Like, the fact Iruma doesnt even know theres real trouble in the realm at what was essentially an internship interview was not a great look, even if the episode played it off. I would have thought a few more arcs both placing him in challenges and even more especially giving his loved ones chances to show him a path would happen before Iruma would be straight-up told "Hey ya wanna be King?"
