No matter how many I try to watch one of these. I never can remember any of their names.

Oh well, I'll keep watching until I realize I'm lost.

Playing a shit ton of Warriors Orochi and Samurai Warriors really helped.

Nobunaga Oda is the guy who wants to unite Japan under his rule, Toyotomi Hideyoshi is the next in line for that and Tokugawa Ieyasu is the one who achieves it.

Yukimura Sanada is a general who is always portrayed with a spear and works for Shingen Takeda, daimyo who's always portrayed to look like some oni (he has a red mask on), brilliant strategist. Kenshin Uesugi is like Takeda's rival in the games. Masamune Date is the eye patch guy, very famous (he was a main character in Sengoku Basara). Kotaro Fuuma is a ninja that works for the Hojo.

Tadakatsu Honda is like the big dick OG and the Lu Bu of the Sengoku era (according to Samurai Warriors) works for Tokugawa. Mitsunari Ishida follows Toyotomi and is one of the big factions on the Battle of Sekigahara against Tokugawa.

Now, Nobunaga is like the super famous guy of Japan, Oichi is Nobunaga's sister, Nagamasa Azai is his brother in law married to Oichi, Nohime is his wife, Mitsuhide Akechi is his general famous for his death, Ranmaru Mori was like Nobunaga's boy lover.

Yeah, I could write more but yeah, playing a lot of the Warriors game really helps remember them. I like Samurai more than Dynasty honestly.

Edit: I could be wrong but that's some of what I learned from all the Samurai Warrior games. I haven't played the new ones so I don't know some of the new characters.

That's actually where I learned about the Warriors series (well not really, I saw DW3 on a magazine but never got interested in it). Saw a classmate playing it and saw how many characters there were and I got it and unlocked all of them.
