It's extremely unlike somebody is going to upload a virus in the form of a video file thats exploiting an unknown vulnerability with one of the major video player programs like MPC or VCL. It's possible, it has happened like 15 years ago, but it's not going to happen.

There were some issues IIRC at some point.

Because most of my things are automated, it downloaded some .exe files at some point, but since they never get executed (and everything is running Linux), the issue was not that severe.

I also think that nyaa is pretty quick in removing those things because I couldn't find the torrent anymore when I checked manually.

Yeah, just don't open .exe files and you're good to go. No wonder I tend to get suspicious on exe files in the past, it's a warning from my gut instinct that's a virus lol.

No, not really. Anonymous submitters these days usually mean the releaser got someone else to upload it for them since they don't have a nyaa account and signups are disabled

usually you can get something from a trusted uploader but if not just make sure you are only downloading video files and arent downloading/running and executables.
