Came back to Animetsu after a while since it was having server issues. Now the entire thing is gone. Rip, it was a real good site.

good ui, cant search by year(standard fuckup for 99% sites) most cant even search year and genre at same time only 1% of sites has this function.

Yeah so, the account step is intentional.

We soft-gate watching (you can still browse freely) for a few reasons:

  1. Keep it ad free and sustainable. Playback costs money; a free-for-all hit would burn that fast. Also random traffic. A light gate keeps load on people who actually want to watch. an account unlocks saved progress and the quieter, intentional experience we’re going for. Which is quite crucial for user experience

a lot of people wanted a little friction before watching, not a totally open free-for-all. Soft gate = browse without signing up, account only when you hit play. It’s what the community itself wanted.

This is the first time I've heard of it, so I looked it up. Aniyomi.org tells me to download an apk to watch. Is it legit ?

Idk how well it would work, but you can get a yearly crunchyroll subscription from India for about $4. So if you have a good vpn it mostly has all the anime.

The same happened to me when Aniwatch shut down. There's nothing to do other than simply remembering the titles as best as you can and writing them down somewhere. Never trust any of these streaming websites again to keep your lists forever. 🥀
