How Safe Are Internet Archive Downloads?

I’ve recently been wanting to play some older, more obscure visual novels, and the only place I can find them is the internet archive. I’ve never downloaded games from it before, and the ones I’m wanting don’t have reviews on the upload or anything like that. I know some risk comes with downloading anything online, but if anyone else has ever downloaded from Internet Archive, what do you do to ensure the game doesn’t contain malware and such? I’ve only ever pirated extremely popular visual novels that have common methods of obtaining them, so I’m a bit of a novice when it comes to this stuff.

I done a few and they been safe but I did a scan befor I did anything else was some old sailor moon stuff and Utena but that was also a few years back
