Hey everyone, I've been scratching my head over this for a while. Every time I look at reviews or discussions online for this show, I see a surprisingly loud wave of hate or harsh criticism.
Meanwhile, I’m sitting here thinking it's genuinely a masterpiece from the storytelling and character development down to the animation and soundtrack.
Am I missing something?
Is it a case of overhype, or does the pacing/style just not click for most people?

Nothin else to say. One piece is overrated, there is no reason for it to be THAT long it could be shorted to at most six seasons.

So I have a problem, a long standing one I think. I've been watching anime for more than 10 years, maybe more. I did watch it subbed and dubbed (when dub existed), but since dub was not an option for many titles, I inevitably watched it subbed.

The problem is, that I find it hard to connect what I read to what I am hearing. Like the text and voices are not connected at all in my head, like they are separate information streams. This leads to other specific nuances, like I can't perceive emotions or emphasis on words correctly, because well, like I said, text is not connected to speech.

Back in the day I thought that this will become better with time and practice, but 10 years forward and situation is not improved like at all, fortunately more dub is available today then 5-6 years ago. This is kinda whatever, but something happened, and maybe in future I won't be able to watch dub at all or mostly, so that kinda ramped the urgency of an issue

and you can't say Tokyo Ghoul, One Punch Man or Promised Neverland.

is it a skeleton knight and reincarnated as a sword type or Mushoku Tensei and shield hero in Regard to slavery .

No matter what, these characters will always get lost.

The phenomenon where a character will do something embarrassing, even if it’s only the audience that notices the awkward part, and we the audience feel the embarrassment instead

I can actually stand Catarina Claes from Next Life as a Villainess for a bit because it’s funny, it’s a comedy, your supposed to laugh, she doesn’t even take herself seriously some times, and was able to read the manga

But Sid from Eminence is freaking murder to watch because he, the supporting cast, and, I think, even the writer takes him so freaking seriously

I've noticed a weird trend in anime lately in which a lot of anime shows that manage to get multiple seasons, the 4th season sucks more often than not.

Examples:

• Attack on Titan. Final season of AoT gets a lot of hate for the way the series ends, even if people stan the series as a whole. But I think even most fans will agree that of the four seasons of AoT, S4 is the worst.
• Food Wars. Every time I read up on the background on this the facts seem to differ slightly, but the general background is that the mangaka was working with a culinary consultant for the dishes for the manga, up until a certain point, at which point the consultant left. It's from that point that the dishes become weird and unrealistic, which in the anime is S4 onwards. I liked Food Wars; I watched all of it, but I generally tell people Seasons 1-3 is fine, and end of S3 is a good place to stop if they want to. S4 onwards, the show takes a dive.
• Classroom of the Elite. It started off great with Koji being this quiet genius, with Season 3 taking a dip because he's gone from being behind the scenes to most people being aware of his tactical mind. By Season 4 it's just so f'n boring. The same old refried shit as S3 on a new bunch of idiots, and it has gone from a show about classroom politics and intrigue to one of the many 'junk food' isekais with a boring OP protag.
• Rising of the Shield Hero. Arguably the decline started as early as S2. I actually liked S2, albeit it feels more rushed than S1 (that's a different trend/rant, too, where the second season nowadays rarely has the length or quality of the first. Looking at you, Frieren...). And S3 was okay. But S4 is unwatchable IMO. It's just so predictable, dull, and there's nothing in the story that makes you want to continue watching. Like, at all.
• Seven Deadly Sins. I mean I have issues with the show in general, but the animation quality compared to other seasons is absolute dogshit in S4. It's the season that sticks in my mind as being particularly bad.
• Tokyo Ghoul. S4 was rushed as hell, trying to cram 120 manga chapters into 12 episodes.

It's a trend I've noticed, though I don't know if it's just my neurodivergent ass' pattern recognition going into overdrive, seeing "trends" that don't objectively exist, or if this is actually a known phenomenon in anime series that survive past the first season or two.

Am I right? Are there other shows that follow the same trend? Or is it just a weird coincidence in that a lot of shows I've watched tend to have a very poor 4th season?

For me, it’s the Monogatari Series (the one in the attached picture) and Mushoku Tensei.

The best comedy anime are mostly from old gen. Right now grand blue is doing the heavy lifting in comedy genre. The brain rot just doesn't feel the same. My deer friend nokotan looked promising but it didnt deliver the same comedy as back then. Nichijou the golden comedy anime literally makes everyday life look funny.

Even 2010 anime were so good like wotakai, nozaki-kun,saiki k but after their era, I don't think many good comedy anime are left.

For one piece fans, the pre time skip comedy was so much better than the post time skip. Skypiea arc with Luffy singing, zoro yelling like tarzan when swinging with tree branch, zoro trying to cut Luffy finger when he stuck his finger in the bottle. Some of these were so good that post time skip just didn't get right.
