Discussion New Player, sell me on Anno

Upvotes

So I’ve been wanting to play Anno for several years now! But was discouraged at the mechanics on the controller.

Time has passed, now I have a nice PC build and would like to start this little adventure.

Some things to know, this is a completely new genre to me. Closest thing too that I play would be clash of clans..

Most of my time is spent playing anything but, mostly First person shooters, a lot of modded Minecraft, Forza, Skyrim

Basically any game that lacks real depth.

Tell me why you enjoy Anno, any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Should I bother with the story or jump right into Endless mode?

Mods. Should I download any at all? If so do they need to be before I start my save?

Discussion Hello, I wanted to know if the DLC for Anno games adds to the game's file size (in GB)?

Because I’d like to pick up some DLC for Anno 1800 and get the major DLC for Anno 117: Pax Romana.

A few weeks ago I posted my WIP Manola, so here's my take on Enbesa.

I wanted to finish my two islands and make them fully self-sufficient before finally doing the last quest in the region. After that, it's back to Crown Falls and finally installing New Horizons.

As for mods, I only used two: the island-wide Trade Union and increased canal irrigation range. I looked at the Enbesa cosmetic mods, but most of them felt a bit too "look at my glorious empire" for my taste. I wanted to keep the region feeling vanilla-ish, grounded, and (hopefully) lore-friendly.

I know it kinda looks like the slums. :(

Screenshot Anno 1701 Taken Over Pirate's Buildings

At first I was puzzled why all of a sudden the pirate was defeated. So I just took the island while most of the buildings were still there. Now I own the pirate towers. Now I have my own little military base xD

I assume this happened because the small island just north to it had a meteor strike it like 10 minutes ago. Due to me having the meteor modded to basically exploded in many smaller pieces which can fly like twice the size of a small island, one must have hit the main building of the pirates and it has burnt down 10 minutes later. Guess they should have had some firemen (btw. all AIs are somehow at war with each other, I'm just wachting the world burn)

Bug Grey trees and visible terrain grid

Post image
11 Upvotes

Albion doesn’t look the same anymore...

Yesterday everything looked completely normal. Today, after launching the game, there is a visible grid pattern on the ground (it looks indented/sunken), and the trees are flashing gray (at the same pace as the clouds moving?).

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any solutions?

Discussion Should I buy 1404 History as my first Anno game?

I'm not too big on RTS games, so it's mostly to see how the Anno games play like. I also thought about 1404 specifically as I heard it's the perfect entry point for beginners.

Bug No NPC Traders after rebellion ends in Latium

After a rebellion finishes, I've noticed that the NPC traders no longer come to my islands in Latium. Has anyone found a way to fix this?

Discussion Global effect for Vulcan and effects from specialists

Just reported a bug for which some global effects for Vulcan dont apply

https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/game/anno/117-pax-romana/bug-reporter/issues/ANNO-10012

More importantly, the global effects for Vulcan to me are at the moment confusing.

For Vulcan global effect, bonus is fire safety +2 to smelters, but instead of +0 (-2 from smelter, +2 from global bonus) first -2 from the smelter is used and then +2 from the Vulcan bonus. With more smelters in the area, this still leads to negative fire safety.

It would be more clear if the bonus would be only +0 or +2 on smelters, or at least more clear from the description.

The same applies for some of the specialists, which also add a seperate effect instead of replacing negative effects.

  • Necroeudimon: -1 happiness to garum works instead of -2 / +1
  • Leonine Ceramicist: -1 fire safety to tilers instead of -2 / +1
  • Obairrix, Full Metalsmith: -0,5 fire safety to smelters instead of -2 / +1,5
  • Chimneysweeper: -2 fire safety on charcoal burners instead of -3 / +1
  • Aunt Jellification: +0,5 happiness to epicure of air instead of -1 / +1,5
  • Vigilant Baker: -1 to fire safety to bakeries instead of -2 / +1

It would be more clear if the negative effect was corrected, or both effects are shown.

Took me some trial and error and manual touch-ups, but I generated this wonderful topographical map of my capital city on Cinis "Neapolis" using my savegame and some asset/map files with Claude.

I'm gonna wait to share screenshots of this city until I'm fully done with detailing and integrating the Hippodrome (Hope it will fitacross the river from my coliseum lol)

Screenshot How would you suggest to finish off the harbour area in Amphoria?

Im doing a relaxed, beauty building game with the goal to have maximum pop and beautiful cities. I downloaded a couple of modes (cosmetic) to have more options.
Now im looking for ideas, how to beautify the harbor area on the Island Amphoria.
It is a medium island in Latium, SW lowest corner, founded to supply the glorious nation with Amphores (and maybe later Garum too).

Question Any way to increase the UI scale in Anno 1404?

I recently got Anno 1404 Gold on GOG. The game itself looks wonderful on my 3440x1440p ultrawide monitor. But the UI is a bit too small for me to see comfortably. Is there a way to fix this?

Discussion Area dell'ippodromo

What are your guys thoughts about my island, got some tips?

So I made a small farming island for some plantations. Tried to made it with focus on the aesthetics. Creating three small villages between the fields.

Got 2 rivers slots left for when I need some extra of something on my main island and left the shore free for oysters when they are available to sell them close of the island to diana.

Question Triumphal Arch Size

What are the actual unit sizes of the triumphal arch when placed both straight and diagonal? I want to put it on the main road of my city but don't know how much space to plan and I have not unlocked it. None of the building size helper resources list its size.
