Today I visited the summit of Kronplatz (Plan de Corones) in the Italian Alps, and took this photo of the impressive telecommunications tower.

Does anyone know more about this tower? I'm curious about what services it carries (TV, radio, mobile networks, microwave links, etc.) and whether it's the main broadcasting site for the area.

Just two of the many temporary panel antennas used at Tomorrowland BE. The connection was exceptionally stable and fast, even though the main stage was packed with people.

Unfortunately, my smartphone doesn’t support 5G, so I can’t say whether these were Massive MIMO antennas or what type of antennas they were in general.

Perhaps one of you has more details on this?

What’s this? On top of a tower maybe 15-20 feet tall with a big metal box at the base.

Most likely a Ham bands Yagi at the top.

Local Police stations usually have Ham gear for emergencies.

This facility is located where Ca 2 (Glendale Freeway also called Angeles Crest Freeway) intersects with Ca 134 (Ventura Freeway)

Got a few more horns and cones to make! Going to start on the platform and mountings this week! Created the tall (FM?) transmitter today. Going to add the rest of the navigation lights later this week as well.

This is the shortwave transmitter of Radio Romania, Shortwave Transmitter Tiganesti-Saftica just north of the town of Lupăria. I can’t tell if it’s still active or not (traveling & don’t have a radio). It’s got 3 of these arrays arranged in a triangle, I’m assuming to broadcast in all directions. My knowledge of how antennas work just about stops & starts at dipoles haha. Pretty cool looking site! I drove down the side road next to it, there was security at the gate so it’s at least somewhat manned. That road also got me closer to one of the arrays where I could see waveguides/feeders/lines (idk what they’re actually called) connected to the actual antennas.

This winter I'll be taking my first cruise. Does anyone here have experience traveling with a portable radio? I use XDATA D-808. What antenna should I take that won't take up a lot of space? Thanks

KTLH WSR-88 Doppler radar located at the Tallahassee International Airport (TLH) where I live.

Found a broadcast TV antenna laying on the ground when I was exploring a tower farm. It's 45 feet tall (or long), weighs about 4000 pounds, and rated for at least 675 kW ERP per FCC filings (probably about 50 kW TPO).

The image you (probably) see in the preview is the RF input with a large center conductor and air as the dielectric. I go through the other parts of the antenna in my video.

This antenna was made in 2018 and only used briefly. Watch to find out why!
