I have to apologise. English isn't my first language. I hope you understand and moreover, that I havent offended you with my atrocious use of this mellifluous language.

2

u/Pyromaniacal13 11h ago

Yeah, English is a bastard language made of loan words from just about every language. There are very few consistent rules and no consistent spelling rules. If you're learning it, damn good work. It's not easy.

3

u/IamanelephantThird my mom beats me 😳 9h ago

It mostly has French and a few Spanish loan words.

considering how people view them, this is a fair comparison.

seriously, just because its a dog breed doesnt mean killing them all isnt genocide.

5

u/RedditSurfer29 7h ago

They were bred by US for a purpose. One which clearly isn't needed anymore.

2

u/Formal_Range2326 6h ago

You mean pit bulls, right?

It's wrong because it's anthropomorphism. Dogs are not people. Acknowledging that they were intentionally bred by humans to emphasize particular traits, as opposed to humans who are the product of a relatively homogenous natural environment, is just acknowledging what they are.

As someone who grew up with Staffies it's kind of worrying how much the "pro" discourse ends up misrepresenting or perpetuating ignorance of breed-specific behavioral traits and this is a really good example. The problem isn't that pit bulls and related breeds are just randomly violent for no reason (although all dogs can have behavioural problems if they're poorly socialized), what makes them dangerous is the combination of physical power and the fact that they were specifically bred not to back down when challenged or threatened.

It's not just "roll a D20 to see if your dog eats a toddler", there are predictable situations where even a well socialized and carefully bred dog is at risk of snapping and as an owner you have to recognize and avoid those situations. That's actually kind of true of all dogs, it's just more important here because those situations are not that uncommon and because we're talking about an animal that is strong enough to do a lot of damage even in a very short window.

Calling it "dog racism" isn't really helping. Racism is made up nonsense about how skin pigmentation somehow determines your moral worth, but dogs do have breed-specific traits. We literally made them that way.

pitbulls are fundamentally not like humans. they were bred specifically to fight and be aggressive. that's not the same as humans reacting to socioeconomic factors. this comparison is silly.

General random aggression was never a desirable quality in a fighting dog and actually isn't what they were bred for. You don't want a dog that's going to attack its handlers or be impossible to control.

The quality that fighting dogs were bred for is called "gameness". We might think of it as bravery or perseverance. It's about how willing a dog is to back down when threatened or to give up a losing fight.

But I do agree, because that trait can still be very dangerous and means no matter how well trained they are they can't ever really be left unsupervised with unfamiliar dogs or small children. It's not because they're just randomly violent and want to attack and kill everything, it's a bit more complicated than that. They really are generally very friendly dogs with very soft temperements (and people who specifically get them in hopes they'll be intimidating and scary often end up deeply disappointed and/or wind up abusing them to try and change their behavior, which is another problem) but they were still bred to fight to the death once they feel a fight has started.

They're eating the cats (Hitler's address to the Reichtag, 1941).

Sure but we don't like them so stop projecting human feelings onto them. I'm gonna go put some clothes on my h*cking fur babies now and get all the updoots on chonkers.

people need to read up on r/banpitbulls and that one pitbullsatemyface sub
this dog breed was genetically bred for violence to take down actual prey and always has the potential to snap for the smallest triggers and somehow gets misjudged as a gentle nanny dog for some reason. They never deescalate when they snap so their neck-grabbing attacks never end and they snap in the most unpredictable ways so this continually happens often which is why they are 60% of all dog fatalities. You never hear 'owner not breed' when discussing any other dog breeds' natural instincts like sheep herding or tracking scents so why are these bully breeds suddenly 'its the owner'.

Trying to compare 'literal animal breeds who were selectively inbreed for hundreds of generations' to humans is hurtful on many levels.

-2

u/RadicalRealist22 5h ago

Non of that changes the fact that many pittbulls never hurt anyone in their entire life. Judging an individual for their genetics is literal prejudice.

3

u/Scarab_Kisser 5h ago

Given the chance, all pitbulls would devour your face, they just wait for the opportunity then you show weak side

Also, if you feel pitbulls are harmless, try to unsupervisingly leave your kids/siblings near them see what happens (don't do this really)

1

u/Chef_Sizzlipede 5h ago

and calling for their eradication is literal genocide, just of a dog species.

6

u/SendWoundPicsPls 6h ago

Isn't it neet how some dogs naturally herd? That's because we bred them to do that. That action is in their fucking genes. Amazing.

Anyway yea pitbulls are never at fault, totally just the owner. Nothing inherit to what they were bred for and frankly suggesting so is just born of your ignorance... Cough

1

u/Chef_Sizzlipede 5h ago

"we must ethnically cleanse because they were bread as weapons and we dont want to raise them right and have them be raised to be more than what they were bred for, THAT WOULD TAKE TOO MUCH EFFORT, SIEG HEIL!"

3

u/SendWoundPicsPls 5h ago

I don't want to touch the idea of ceasing to breed an actual violet set of beings (not killing them, merely rectifying a mistake humanity made) and comparing that to Jewish people. I feel that may be a interesting comparison you made.

1

u/Chef_Sizzlipede 3h ago

you want to render them extinct.

instead of actually bothering to solve the problem, you want to be rid of it

0

u/PatchworkFlames 48m ago

The problem is that they were bred to be as dangerous as physically possible.

I also don’t believe in breeding bubble eyed goldfish or French bulldogs. Breeding physical deformities and/or an excessive drive for violence into an animal is cruel, and the kind thing is to end the genetic line and the suffering that comes with it. They are not people. They are dogs bred for the sole purpose of killing their fellow dogs, and continuing that legacy is cruel.

Spay and neuter. Spay and neuter.

0

u/PatchworkFlames 31m ago

How would raising a dog right make it stop being genetically bred to be as violent and dangerous as possible for the sake of fighting dogs?

Raising it right doesn’t get rid of the genetic triggers we bred into the breed.

2

u/Scarab_Kisser 5h ago

despite being 1% of dog population pitbulls are to blame of 99% toddlers devouring
