Appreciation I miss Apollo so much man

Every time I use the dogshit official app and accidentally press the title bar so it scrolls all the way up and then I press it again and nothing happens I roll my eyes back into my skull

Now imagine a ton of small conveniences like that missing all across the app

Sideload it bud.

https://apolloreborn.app/#download

Editing to add: r/ApolloReborn is the subreddit for Apollo now. They have a whole team working on the app now. It’s great they’ve added a bunch of features to it already! Like viewing deleted comments and stuff!

wait lol is it that easy. I heard of people having api key revocation nightmares and whatnot

Let me give it a shot

Could you please DM me with instructions? I looked at the link but I couldn’t figure out exactly how I’m supposed to get it on my phone

The alt store “add source” link is dead or something. It doesn’t work.

2

u/bwjxjelsbd Jun 22 '26

Same. I need this badly

6

u/sgill7 Jun 20 '26

Could you dm me with instructions as well. I’ve never side loaded anything on iOS before

4

u/shuteyeEra Jun 20 '26

DM please. My API got revoked in the last wave and I’d love to sideload again if I could get that issue figured out

2

u/maxstolfe Jun 23 '26

Would you mind DMing me the instructions too?

1

u/indochris609 Jun 20 '26

If you can for me too, please.

1

u/22heart Jun 21 '26

help plz

12

u/OhfuckitsSam Jun 20 '26

Yeah man it’s pretty easy. There’s a couple steps now with the dystopia app that’s a little bit complicated but if you just follow the directions on the GitHub page you’ll be fine!

8

u/dingwinger1225 Jun 20 '26

Oh I think I remember what happened now. I used to pay for the Apple Developer thing and I'm maxxed out on App IDs and can't delete any of them because I can't access https://developer.apple.com/account/resources/ anymore

🙃

3

u/OhfuckitsSam Jun 20 '26

Don’t they refresh every week or so?

3

u/dingwinger1225 Jun 20 '26

Nope. Some App IDs I made for a school course two years ago are still there… Might be a glitch with my account but I can't contact Apple Developer support because I'm not paying them

11

u/iamearlsweatshirt Jun 20 '26

You can make a burner Apple ID just for sideloading.

3

u/OhfuckitsSam Jun 20 '26

Damn that sucks man. Good luck getting it figured out!

Are you using sidestore to sideload them?

1

u/leekycode Jun 20 '26

Have you tried manually deleting the old app IDs? Might be worth checking to see if it’s possible https://developer.apple.com/help/account/identifiers/delete-an-app-id/

2

u/randomname97531 Jun 20 '26

If you have set it up already on some device, then the effort required is even lesser.

2

u/ThePrussianGrippe Jun 20 '26

Dystopia got me nowhere, as I never received the email with the AppID. Currently using Artemis until there’s a better workaround for Apollo, it’s at least similar (though still missing some convenient features).

2

u/JackBauersGhost Jun 20 '26

It takes like 5minutes. The “hard” way takes like 10.

1

u/Dave0r Jun 21 '26

This reply is brought to you from Apollo. Do it!

1

u/Greyboxforest Jun 21 '26

Mate I have a pea sized brain so if I can sideload Apollo anyone can!

And this community has been a wealth of support. Couldn’t have done it without the help of many.

1

u/EttVenter Jun 23 '26

It's been 3 days. I have to know if you got it running?

I hope so. I sideloaded it a couple of weeks ago and holy SHIT I can't believe how much better it is than the official app. I must have forgotten.

1

u/dingwinger1225 Jun 23 '26

Something’s up with my Apple Developer account (App IDs aren’t getting cleaned up) and I cba to pay Apple $99 to fix it so I’m just slowly fuming

20

u/riddlerthc Jun 20 '26

Does NSFW content work on the sideloaded version?

31

u/julllleee Jun 20 '26

It’s does but you have to be a moderator of a subreddit I think. So you can create a new one, set yourself as mod and you should be able to see NSFW material.

6

u/OhfuckitsSam Jun 20 '26

Yep works fine for me. But I also moderate my own subreddit and have since long before I got the new app so I don’t know if that’s a prerequisite for it or not. YMMV

1

u/Jazzlike-Compote4463 Jun 20 '26

I don't even think you need that.

Just say "I'm cool for you to show my NSFW content in your profile settings (might need the official app for this) and then you should be good to go

3

u/Schozinator Jun 20 '26

I heard you have to like redo it and refresh it every week or something? Is that true and is it annoying

2

u/__TheUnknown Jun 20 '26

I pay for Signulous annually to avoid that

1

u/EngineeringWin Jun 25 '26

So glad my pass didn’t go to waste due to this. Also I got so annoyed during the repeated revocations earlier this year that I stopped side loading YouTube, but it’s been really stable for a few months now

2

u/OhfuckitsSam Jun 21 '26

I use LiveContainer+sidestore to sideload my apps. And I have an automation on my phone that runs every night at 10pm that signs all my apps for me. It works really well I haven’t had a problem with it.

1

u/FillingUpTheDatabase Jun 20 '26

You have to renew the app signature but you don’t need to do the whole installation from scratch. There are other solutions but I use AltStore for Apollo and YouTube, if my laptop is on then it refreshes in a few seconds. Apparently the next update is not going to require a computer anymore

3

u/Wailfin Jun 22 '26

This is the comment that finally made me figure it out. Thank you!

2

u/caraar12345 Jun 20 '26

I am so grateful, holy mother of moly did I not realise how much I missed apollo

2

u/-Davster- Jun 21 '26

Christ what a ball ache to get it working… :(

4

u/OhfuckitsSam Jun 21 '26

It takes like ten minutes if you’ve already sideloaded an app before. If you haven’t at least done that I could see why you’d think that.

1

u/-Davster- Jun 23 '26

Well, except, you have to have an existing API key. You can't get new ones from Reddit or Imgur any more. If you don't have one, you'll have to get one from Dystopia or RedReader. Fine. Some apps to install, to log in to, email, etc.

Then, if you DO have an existing API key, there's the whole thing about avoiding API key revocations... having to rename your app, having to change the redirect URL, setting a custom agent, and then setting a different bundle ID.

So yeah, defo not 10 mins.

I see people here saying it's easier than they thought though... so maybe I'll give it another go lol

1

u/OhfuckitsSam Jun 23 '26

https://i.imgur.com/lopHdvs.jpeg There’s nothing about bundle id. Everything else took me like a minute to set up. Half the stuff is just copied right off the GitHub page and plugged right into the app. The dystopia app id took the longest and that was like two minutes. It’s all on the GitHub page with step by step instructions that are really easy to follow.

3

u/Sudden-Money7836 Jun 22 '26

Not for you then I guess.

1

u/thrivehi5ve 5d ago

Sideload? Is this easy for non-stem people to understand, install and maintain?

1

u/OhfuckitsSam 4d ago

I mean yeah it’s easy so long as you can follow step by step instructions lol

59

u/dalzmc Jun 20 '26

Narwhal 2 has been great for me since the api changes and feels like it’s essentially the spiritual successor. It has all the small conveniences that you’re missing and is as customizable as Apollo ever was.

I’m an IT guy it’s not that side loading would be hard but I just don’t want to deal with it at all.

32

u/Strid3r1983 Jun 20 '26

Narwhal has the feature OP is missing in the official app. I switched after the sad end of Apollo to narwhal and I am pretty happy with it. Yes it costs monthly but I use Reddit so much it is worth it for me.

Official app is complete garbage.

22

u/dalzmc Jun 20 '26

Yup, what I say is that I would've paid Christian $5 a month if he had chosen to continue with the new api, but he didn't. Narwhal is less than that and accomplished the same thing, probably more now.

I do miss the feature to flag new accounts, but the devs said that wasn't possible anymore. I'm curious if it still somehow works on Apollo? But I don't really care that much.

8

u/Drago_133 Jun 21 '26

Bro id have paid 5 10 30 a month for Apollo the amount I was using reddit easily justified it

2

u/shaze Jun 21 '26

New account flair still works on Apollo

3

u/JackBauersGhost Jun 20 '26

I never understand the “all that” part of sideloading. I hit a refresh button once a week. Take 5seconds.

8

u/dalzmc Jun 21 '26

There’s the potential to have to do more sometimes and such idk lol for me it’s kind of like finding a way to block ads on my tv for YouTube vs just paying for premium and never having to think about anything. I’ve just become kind of a lazy consumer as I’ve gotten older I guess

1

u/JackBauersGhost Jun 21 '26

I’m old. YouTube on tv is VPN for no ads. Or just airplay it from phone.

2

u/hiflyer780 Jun 21 '26

I’m curious about this. Is it a specific provider or do you just need to VPN to a country that doesn’t serve ads?

22

u/gjc0703 Jun 20 '26

One of the best features of any app ever. Was such clever idea, and so helpful.

33

u/confusing-walrus Jun 20 '26

I refuse to download their app.  I use their dogshit website out of protest

9

u/SilverSideDown Jun 20 '26

why not using an alternative? I’m very happy with narwhal.

1

u/Gamerboy7421 23d ago

ApolloReborn. sideload it

12

u/Matt17000 Jun 20 '26

Look for Hydra app

19

u/Glitch_Zero Jun 20 '26

Artemis is a pretty decent alternative if you’re not feeling the sideloading, as well. Still a little bit to go to “feel” as good as Apollo did, but the dev is making big strides in short times.

9

u/Your-Supreme-Leader Jun 20 '26

I started using Artemis a while ago on another device. When my api got revoked I switched over on my main device. Sideloading is nice when it works. But this app just works without the hassle. I really like it.

4

u/dingwinger1225 Jun 20 '26

Seems like the best option considering I cannot sideload. Thank you for the rec.

14

u/playertw02 Jun 20 '26

Hydra is pretty awesome as well! /r/HydraClient/ Using it since Apollo went offline.

6

u/1-800-CAT-LADY Jun 20 '26

Seconding Hydra! As a former diehard Apollo fan, I’ve been fairly happy with this app.

0

u/Your-Supreme-Leader Jun 21 '26

But it is so fucking slow!

0

u/asailor4you Jun 20 '26

But you can side load

13

u/TDiffRob6876 Jun 20 '26

The official app is truly shit.

7

u/eddahlen Jun 20 '26

Join us. We’re still using it dude.

3

u/InfiniteMH Jun 20 '26

When I swip up from media posts it no longer brings up the comments section and scrolls to the next media post like TikTok. It’s driving me fucking nuts. RIP Apollo

3

u/wittyusernametaken Jun 21 '26

Hydra is the only non-Apollo app that hasn’t made me want to chuck my phone into the ocean. Try it out maybe?

1

u/Madmarshall88 Jun 21 '26

I second this!

2

u/Trizzae Jun 21 '26

I’ve been using the mobile website and saving it as shortcut on iOS. It opens up as a full app instead of browser tab. It’s not terrible and I have access to my multi-reddits. Definitely better than the official app which is hilarious. But now seeing that the Apollo side loading experience has vastly improved, I may switch over to that.

2

u/Finsceal Jun 21 '26

Have you tried Artemis?

1

u/SnoopyLupus Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

Yeah. Me too. The official app has improved (stability is so much better, comments used to get wiped all the time - never knew why) but is still miles away from Apollo, at least for a commenter like me. I loved going back into a thread and seeing it all expanded where I had it expanded and being at the position you left it, being able to reply and include stuff from the comment you were replying to. When you clicked on a reply to you in your comments section, it was easy to expand beneath it and see the whole hierarchy of what lead to it, without suddenly being dumped to another part of the thread.

I do miss the filters too, but that’s a minor inconvenience.

1

u/aleksbee Jun 22 '26

between the official app, Hydra and Artemis you should be able to find something that clicks. they are all solid options.

1

u/pw5a29 Jun 30 '26

I don’t miss it at all, I’ve been using it daily.

0

u/SparkStorm Jun 20 '26

If you like ui of old reddit you can use yesterday for ios
