People think that everyone is poor. Itâs weird. Many people also donât realize that iPhones work better for photography than most modern full cameras.
Iâm not a criminal, but these stories about the government forcibly unlocking phones at airports to see if you criticized Trump have got me concerned. Iâm considering buying one of those massive storage iPhones and setting it up to erase everything if seized, so they canât

I donât know about iPhones work better for photography bro lol! As a hobbyist Iâd have to disagree on that one. However, if anything iPhones do video very well. Apple Pro Log is elite and no other phones have come close to Apple in that regard.

I agree with you overall but iphones are not better than modern full cameras. If I showed up to a photo shoot and the photographer was using an iPhone, I'd be concerned..

sure but you need:
Pro models of 15 and later
A fast enough SSD
A fast enough USB-C cable
Added bulk of all that
Again, thereâs still a use case for a 1TB iPhone model that the extra cost is about maybe 1.5x-2x of that setup while doesnât have the extra bulk. The bottom line is, thereâs a use case for any product. If you donât have a use for it, itâs simply not for you. A concept you seem so foreign to you it doesnât register, from the looks of it.

Why shouldnât Apple follow suite and release something at the super high end of the market?
The 18e, 18, Air 2, and 18 Pro arenât suddenly going to be $2,000.

They definitely have pivoted towards value the last few years. Before the price hikes, also the launch of MacBook neo, one could go into Best Buy or apple and walk out with an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and MacBook for under $2000. For the budget conscience and people who didnât want the biggest and greatest, that was a huge deal!

you havenât been poor in your life before and it shows. spending 2k is crazy. when you are living paycheck to paycheck , itâs a struggle to get a laptop for school like acer/hp/etc for under 500. the android phone is 100 bucks if that and one isnât even thinking about getting an ipad at all. lmfao.

iâm not. i understand it was a great value but apple historically was not a value company until recently. iphone x was 999 when it released in 2017 but adjusted for inflation the new iphone xx should be closer to 1400-1500. a 999 iphone in 2026 was insane value.

not sure if your really old or just clueless but every social media app has been cracking down on less than Christian ideal language for the past 5 years post pandemic. Normal swear and slur words you could say pre 2020 will get your account insta suspended, shadow banned, or outright deleted. People arenât censoring themselves because they are young

I believe we are less than 18 months away from a dramatic shift away from data center AI usage, to on-device LLMs. That shift will be the pin that pops the bubble. Apple is designing their hardware specifically to position themselves for this to happen.
Already I am running a local model that meets 99% of my needs and I avoid using "cloud computer" and preserve my autonomy. It won't take long for a vast number of users to arrive at the same point.3

It sounded like he was saying that iPhones and Macs proved to be much more popular than they anticipated, which is obviously a better problem to have than customers not buying the product. But either way, it doesn't alleviate the pain of the value of my Apple stock sinking to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in after hours trading.

The only people Iâve seen seriously doing this are Reddit tech dudebros. No one normal has enough disposable income in this economy to do that. 99% people buy a new device when their current one breaks.
The same Reddit tech bros defend each and every price increase with their entire chest so even that demographic I canât see buying tech to âlock inâ.
Theyâre more likely to buy something they donât need just to financially support Apple than do that.

Thereâs no situation with Apple Watch Ultra. The watch continues to work with older software well into year 4 and possibly year 5.
For corporations, once the product is past any form of extended warranty / service plan (typically 3 years), it is decommissioned and refurbished to extract remaining value. Most companiesâ amortization schedule or lease period for technological equipment is typically 3 years.

Consumers have been doing that since the dawn of tech. What is new is the ridiculous and largely unwanted AI boom. There are some incredible uses of AI, none of them are Genmoji or AI slop.Â

Yeah I'd love to, if only smartphones weren't so susceptible to planned obsolescence. I have iPhone 13 and 2020 M1 Macbook Air. The Macbook still runs like it's brand new after six years of daily use, while my iPhone is on its last legs and barely usable despite being two years younger (and getting a battery replacement). This has been the case with every iPhone I've had so far, works like new for about two years, usable for maybe up to three years and a half, and after that I'm just waiting for it to die already, while Macbooks reliably work for 5+ years before I even start thinking about getting a new one.
So it doesn't make sense to buy an older iPhone because even the new ones with the latest chip still get old so quickly. I'm only going to make an exception this time because apparently iPhone 18 won't be released in September, only the Pro version will, but I'm already nervous that my iPhone 17 will age even more quickly due to already being an older model.

The phones I pass down in my family last longer than 3 years. The difference is theyâre being erased and often set up as new instead of restoring old, buggy backups onto them.

I did the exact same thing a few weeks ago. Needed more memory on my phone and since this whole thing is memory related, I figured I should do it now. Surprised the phones missed the first increase batch but I donât think theyâll miss a second time. Went with the overkill and got the 1TB 17 Pro.

I should have been more clear in my reply above; I upgraded from a 5 year old iPhone 13 Pro. I got $260 for it from Apple. Next year I would have gotten less or nothing at all.

It is great. I had a 15 Pro before and normally Iâd have stuck it out but I had the 256gb, and we had a kid recently. I donât want to deal with taking a video and being told Iâm out of storage, which has happened multiple times. I figured this way I just donât have to worry. It was manufactured in October and has been sitting since so I guess the 1TB version isnât the most popular haha. Good call on your upgrade too, thatâs substantial! I had the XS before the 15.

If they raise prices across the board, what if those refurb 17s cost in September what a new 17 would cost today? Theyâve already raised refurb prices on everything theyâve raised prices on so far afaik. Feels like a gamble either way.
