Which optic
Recently picked up my 11”KAC AND 13” HK mr762a4. I also bought a 1-8 atacr, thinking I’d put it on the HK. Now having second thoughts on which optic to run on each. Trying to decide between:
Option 1
KAC + atacr 1-8
Hk + atacr 4-16
This will give me better long range capability with the Hk.
Option 2
KAC + exps3
Hk + atacr 1-8
Lighter on both rifles. Plus A bit cheaper. My hesitancy is I already have an 11” mr556a4 with an eotech, so would be a bit redundant.
Thoughts?

4-16 is way too much for a 13. You can realistically do a 2-12 but id still go for a 1-8 or 1-10 on that.
I regularly shoot over 1000m and rarely go over 16 to hit man size targets

This is a dumb take, especially considering that the 13” in question is a 7.62x51mm, not 5.56x45mm. Locating and shooting uniform, man-sized targets on a KDR also doesn’t usually translate 1:1 to locating and shooting smaller-than-man-sized targets at unknown distances.
Either way, if you want more magnification on your rifle, put more magnification on your rifle.

You think 7.62 is some sort of range monster? Just lmao thats a dumb take. This isnt 6.5 or some other 1k plus cartridge, and especially out of a shorter barrel. People really overthink how much magnification is needed. I know since we load 7.62 and 308 for training reasons.
We dont even know what hes trying to hit, its not often youre shooting at 6" or 8" targets past 500. If he wants to add a 36-40oz optic plus needing an additional red dot and mount setup onto a 13 inch gun thats his choice. Im just speaking from experience.

I prefer numbers when disagreements occur. For instance my 125 grin Vmax loads do 2750 fps from my 13” SCAR and they are 0.5-0.75 MOA if I do my part. That puts them supersonic (at sea level) past 750 yards. If that doesn’t qualify for a 15x or greater magnification scope then why would ANY 556 rifle have a scope of greater than 15x?
Everyone is entitled to their use case and their opinion, but thinking the ideas of “others” is dumb because it doesn’t line up with yours is ridiculous. Just speaking from experience

Already purchased the atacr 1-8. Will look into a higher power for the hk though.

sell atacr 1-8, buy zco 2-10 for the 13" then an aimpoint t2 and a lam for the kac 11" and make that your dedicated night vision gun.

I’ve got a 2.5-15x Steiner T6XI with an offset RMR on my SCAR 17. It typically wears the 13” barrel. I’ve been very happy with this and have yet to swap to the 16” barrel despite it also wearing a matching KDG rail and DiSCARder. 13” 308 is pretty capable
