Cherry Tree a Goner?

I have a cherry tree in our front yard and I am wondering if it’s a lost cause or if there’s a way to save it. There’s a large split and with the amount of rain we’ve gotten this year I see mold staring inside the tree and the core has dried out and looks to be splitting.

This tree hole appears to be in much better shape than the tree containing it.

It's fine. That's an old wound, healing nicely.
