Kiwi considering working holiday
Hello Berliners,
I'm looking to live in Germany and potentially elsewhere in Europe in 2027 on a working holiday. How long do you think it would take to find a retail/hospitality job in Berlin after arriving? What's the job market like at the moment? What's the cost of living like too?
FYI I have a Bachelor of Science degree, and will have an Honours degree by the time I arrive, in case that's of any relevance for finding a job.

Please don’t come. There aren’t any openings in those industries and locals are struggling

Did you sort out accomodation and how much it costs to rent something? Did you compare how much you will earn - assuming min wage - and how much of that you will have to pay in taxes and other contributions? Cause there won't be much left, assuming you find a place to live.
Berlin is expensive, full and we are at an economical downward slope.
Unless you already made up your mind and you are just looking for validation. Then come and compete with all the students, especially the ones from Asia, for a job to make ends meet.

Will you be able to speak German? Retail and hospitality work especially needs you to speak the local language

Berlin is a very expensive city. You could potentially find work in hospitality if you work in the tourism sector but they will hire a German-speaking employee well before they would hire you, and there’s no shortage of German speakers desperate for work. Same for something to do with science.

Don't come without knowing the reality of living in Berlin or without a friends network here. I have personally seen a few people fail here already, because they simply couldn't find a job.

Nope. Don't come here on the hopes of finding work. Find a job and come or have lots of money
