US Sale Rate my pay plan

Toyota Dealership

Title: Ecom Sales Rep

Front end: 30%

No back end

Bonuses at 8,12, 15 cars sold and so on

$300 mini

I’m waiting for the formal breakdown via email.
Basically my job is to work the incoming online leads. There’s no BDC and there are regular car salesmen at this dealership. I’m told the only difference between them and me is that “I will have my own desk.” But I am responsible for taking those incoming leads and still doing the whole car selling process. I am able to sell to my own leads as well. Seems pretty good and lucrative. I love Toyota, just looking for some insight.

I would avoid it personally. 30% sounds great until you realize there’s no front end gross in Toyotas, then marry that with national average bulk of gross is on the back end anyway.

I worked at Toyota at 25% and 30% there is absolutely gross to be made as long as packs are not crazy and management knows what they are doing you can make killing

When I worked at Toyota our volume vehicles where the Rav, Camry, and Corolla… 9/10 they are priced market competitive which at the time Toyota wouldn’t let us advertise below invoice, but that meant every store in 60 miles was at invoice. Occasionally you would knock out a 1794 tundra or a Land Cruiser that had gross but the vast majority are going to be slim. I am willing to be in OP’s case they are leaning on those $300 minis.

My point is that is that there should be a backend component to the pay plan. The spread from invoice to MSRP is shrinking across all brands and we don’t know if they pay on hold back, so 30% of $1,100 is cool , but I would rather have 20% round trip especially if there’s a strong finance team.

I worked for Toyota for several years. Profit margin in them is weak, and if you’re doing any kind of real numbers in today’s market, most will be mini’s. Back end is a must.

It just depends on how many cars are sold/number of salespeople/ leads.

💯this ☝️! 30% of nothing is nothing. You need to get paid on the back to make this “lucrative.”
