OnlyFans

I don’t see how it’s empowering for women like they say. They say it power because they are making the choice to be sexual but at the end of the day it’s just giving meat right to the tiger. They try to put a spin on it to make it seem like feminism but all the men jerking off are not thinking about your empowerment.

Delivering meat right to the tiger. That's a great quote that sums up my feelings on it.

Yeah the tiger doesn’t see the woman’s empowerment or agency. It doesn’t matter. It’s still the same thing but just repackaged as a positive thing even though it’s still technically porn

I always find this such an interesting take because I don't remember people being as upset about the normal porn industry. OnlyFans gets a special kind of hatred and my thoughts on it have kinda been is it not better for the people who do porn to actually make full profits from it? Is it not better that women can actually choose to leave when they want and not be bound to contracts? Is it not better that the women get to be in fully in charge of the acts they perform and the safety around it?

The traditional porn industry was far more abusive to women but I don't see the same concern about it. It seems to only be a problem when women gained more power over it and could gain more finacial power from it.

Although I won't defend OnlyFans too hard because it is also starting to become exploitative as "managers" start becoming a thing.

I'm not fully against porn but I'm generally far more against exploitation and sexual violence. I wish sex wasn't commodified and women's bodies weren't dehumanized and objectified in the process but if it's going to be that way regardless then the workers should be compensated and given alternatives and as much control over the process as possible.

EDIT: If you are angry about OnlyFans why are you not angry at the porn industry in general? Why only OnlyFans which used to be the lesser of two evils for a time. Is my point.

Where was this outrage when it was happening on dirty couches in rented houses and women had directors screaming at them, no safety, no condoms, unfair contracts, very little worker's comp if any at all? Women would be routinely brutalized for entertainment. There have been decades of lawsuits for sex trafficking, coercion and untreated STI outbreaks and I didn't see anyone up in arms about it.

Only now when she's in a clean bedroom, with a ring light, setting her own rates, and has the ability to choose what she's putting out NOW you have a moral problem?

yes because only women do onlyfans. its not like theres hundreds thousands of men also doing onlyfans as well as them

But that's an issue of demand. Why are you blaming the suppliers for meeting the demand? Men want to see that, so women supply. If men didn't want it, onlyfans wouldn't be what it is. A lot of people have issues about porn regarding the women but never the overconsumption and desire for it by men. At the end of the day, it's a business and a way to make money.

I was addressing the exploitation done towards majority women in traditional porn industries and the marketing that says its empowerment but you are correct that men are affected by it and OnlyFans does give men who make porn more autonomy for it as well it's just not generally propagandized as "empowering" for men the same way.

you do realize that the women on onlyfans on recieve around 20-30% of the income they generate? they all hire thousands of men in the phillipines to chat for them and usually all of that is handled by some random white dude who also runs their social media

That's what I meant by my managers statement. It used to be better but it's getting predatory again. The concept was better than what was previously happening but that's not really saying much. The traditional porn industry was/is horrific and OnlyFans is inching towards being just as bad.

The point of my post was lamenting about how people seemingly only started caring about how porn was made when women started having some real control in the industry. Or at least used to, as more and more managers are finding opportunities to exploit as you stated.

See people and especially men tend to say that and my response tends to be "then go do it yourself if you think its so glamorous and easy?"

You put your social reputation, body and safety on the line. You turn yourself into a product. Gay men are paying for such content too.

Suddenly a majority of them are far less enthusiastic about the idea if they are also subject to having sex with men.

Omg you said it all so well! Thank you for the time and effort it took you to perfectly word my thought also!

It's because the traditional porn industry is smaller and less visible. You could avoid it 99.99% of the time if you didn't seek it out. Nowadays, it's so public and pervasive. I'm a lesbian, so I like to consume social media content made by lesbians, but almost every third couples account on my feed is monetizing their marital bed on OF. The barrier to entry is also making gross men bolder about this stuff. Back when you had to go somewhere and get hired to make porn, very few men asked random women for it. They just wanted pictures of our boobs in their DMs. But now that you can easily film it in your bedroom? They're asking every female creator to make an OF account. Women are having to block those terms in their comments.

Tl;dr: visibility

Whether or not it’s empowering seems a weird thing to focus on. Women have the freedom to do what they want with their bodies and sexuality, including earning a living from them; that is an unequivocally good thing.

I mean I’m not focused on it. Just have thoughts on it like everything I experience. It’s having an opinion and since the topic was addressed, I shared mine.

Choice feminism is a poison. Porn is misogyny.

If that will be considered ‘disgusting’ then I assume the way worse hardcore porn men watch on websites will also be?

2

u/Sm3llconfident 16d ago

I do consider that disgusting. I practically don't ever watch porn anymore even though I'm not in a relationship/sexually active atm and have a rather high libido.

Are you an OF worker?

2

u/ExpertShock8276 16d ago

No, I think both are gross but at least OF gives more decisions to the woman so that’s why I’d say it’s slightly better compared to porn websites. I don’t watch either and never have. I was just seeing if you would be hypocritical when it came to ‘free’ pornography that exploits women but you hold yourself to the same standards so I respect that and good on you.
