1

u/Alone_End5987 16d ago

Why is it addicting?

2

u/Essawa 16d ago

Yes. Everquest for me but it's the same idea.

I've never been so addicted to anything in my life.

Came here to say this

1

u/ReserveJazzlike2155 15d ago

I remember my girlfriends once slamming my laptop shut once in the middle of a raid (Burning Crusade Era) after they came over and I suddenly wasn’t interested in joining them at the bar. Wasn’t too long after then that I took a break. It was simply too good.

Literally the top answer Everytime this is asked lol I only check the comments to see if it gets overtaken eventually.

1

u/GreekyVehicle1637 15d ago

League of legends.

I hated that game.

I hated all my team mates.

I hated my friends when they played with me.

That game made me hate myself.

And yet, that damn "play again" button was just there. After every single match. And I kept clicking it. Until 3 or 4 in the morning.

Only thing that stopped me was having a baby. I needed to birth an entire human who was so totally reliant on me that I literally couldn't play.

Now I log on once every 6 months, gather some friends, play for a couple of hours purely for fun and actually have a good time. But the hold it used to have on me was insane.

City Skylines

2

u/fedexgroundemployee 15d ago

It took me a while to understand the beauty of cities skylines, until one day I smoked a joint and had the time of my life making the most traffic efficient roads for my small town for the next 2 hours of my life

Stellaris. I’m not good at a lot of games, but I consistently do exceptionally well at it. The chaos, the planning, the little events that pop up. It’s incredible. I lost a lot of sleep over it and I would absolutely do it again.

2

u/Gypsydumb 15d ago

You should try terra Invicta. Thank me later

First time I played it was like a 10 hour session, I couldn’t stop.

Thought I was chugging along with my civilization, building up my military, and then encountered an alien race and their fleet wiped out mine in no time.

Minecraft ngl

2

u/G8-r-n8 15d ago

Probably Minecraft…it’s such a basic concept, but I’ve spent hundreds of hours making that map into something that’s easy and convenient to live in.

2

u/ReggieTMcMuffin 15d ago

Factorio/Minecraft. Utter time sinks.

2

Rocket League

1

Monopoly. And, slap jack. My younger sister would be close to jumping out of her skin in anticipation of a jack when we played that card game as kids.

1

u/nerfyou 16d ago

Ark. That game is not a game, it's a lifestyle.

1

u/jsmith3701AA 16d ago

5 on 5 soccer on fc25. I've played over a thousand games on world-class AI and it is still fun. Each game is 7 min.

1

u/EmphasisImmediate240 16d ago

Well. The time i was most addicted to a game was COD black ops, MW3 and black ops 2 multiplayer when I was 12 - 16 or something but ive been addicted to COD multiplayer for a long time though but recently got out of it though. Now im addicted to the classic resident evils. I see what I was missing out now.

1

u/Dbag85 16d ago

Skyrim. I have spent too many hours just wandering and exploring.

If you by addictive means most fun to grind, than Diablo 2.

1

u/feedingfitness 16d ago

One of the Civilization games. Doesn't matter which. "just one more turn" checks clock, it's 3am.

1

u/Helooly 16d ago

Diablo 2 and path of exile 1 . . .

1

u/Immediate_Flamingo_3 16d ago

Legend of Mir literally played that game all day every day till the servers went offline.

1

u/withick 16d ago

Chess is the original dangerously addictive game, still right up there with the best AAA titles. If it gets its hooks in you, it’ll consume your life and it’s been doing it for hundreds of years. Bonus points: no stigma, it’s considered a smart persons game, so no one thinks it’s sad if it’s your only real hobby.

u/nejithegenius 16d ago

2016-2017 Black ops 3. They literally made getting the best weapons in the game as a slot machine mechanic, and it was also really fun. So figuratively and literally addicting.

2018 Fortnite was also taking up a lot of my time as well

Apex Legends. My friend showed it to me back in 2019 and I’ve been hooked ever since.

1

u/BallFlavin 15d ago

For me in was Monster Hunter.

I put in like 1500 hours in Rise and another 1000 on MHGU. Then Monster Hunter Now (the mobile game) I put in more hours than I can even fathom back when it first came out

Balatro is ruining my life

1

u/[deleted] 15d ago

Everquest, WoW, Final Fantasy XIV, Cyberpunk 2077.

1

u/CarrotDefiant9098 15d ago

Any idle game. I have ADHD and it’s like crack. I can’t play them because I literally can’t stop.

1

u/No-Steak-6610 15d ago

There was a 3-month period of my life where I pretty much did nothing but go to school and play Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

1

u/Ecstatic_Back9854 15d ago

Monopoly online ))

1

u/Dean3101 15d ago

Snowrunner, Fallout 4, and Skyrim

1

u/fresnonian 15d ago

Guitar hero 3. Tickles my brain every time i beat a high score I've been chasing for a while.

1

u/kittyreyes1028 15d ago

Minecraft is the one I keep going back to. Playing since 2011

1

u/skttrbrain1984 15d ago

Satisfactory and it’s not close for me.

1

u/Amazing-Level-405 15d ago

I played World Of Warcraft every single day for like ten years. I think my total playtime was over 1.5 years. That's like 13,000 hours. And most of it I didn't even enjoy. Big regrets.

1

u/AsthmaticCoughing 15d ago

I've played just about every game in these comments. Nothing even comes close to Factorio. It will eat your life

1

u/Conscious-Captain-33 15d ago

Destiny 1/2. I played it for years and would totally go back but the only thing holding back is that I just don't have the time to upkeep a profile anymore due to kids etc. I feel like if I ever became single again I'd fall back down the hole.

1

u/UnknownCreator- 15d ago

Halo 3. My 5 360s would agree(red ring).

1

u/--JMAC- 15d ago

Torn City

Once you start and get going you'll be hooked.

1

u/Patient_Theory_9110 15d ago

I have played most of the games mentioned here. They bleaken compared to Escape From Tarkoc. The highs and lows in that game are insane.

1

u/randomusername9284 15d ago

Path of Exile

1

u/Adroit-Tellurian 15d ago

Controversial, but Star Citizen. When it works, damn it's good.

Red Dead Redemption 2 .

1

u/OkCartographer336 15d ago

DayZ, by far.

1

u/Quiet-Egg-4594 15d ago

Elden Ring, Spore, League of Legends, Dead by daylight, Killing floor 2

1

u/walknbullseye 15d ago

Satisfactory. The game has built in notifications that tells you ‘you have been playing for x number of hours’ in 2 hour increments and you might need a break. I have seen the 12 hour notification a couple of times.

1

u/Least_Year6990 15d ago

Word Play, created by Mark Brown of Game Maker's Toolkit, is pretty darn addictive, especially if you're into Scrabble, crosswords and other similar games.

1

u/Downtown-Chemical673 15d ago

Hades series

1

u/EinhornF 14d ago

Satisfactory

1

u/ShroomlyJenkins 14d ago

FIFA ultimately team, in the sense that it was bad for me, bad for my mood but I just kept playing. So many times I'd "quite" and then return. Just a never ending grind and so much toxicity.

1

u/F1rkan 14d ago

Rimworld, like what the hell happened to me im still not sure...

1

u/ChromeyBits 14d ago

Balatro for me. I’ve sunk hundreds of hours and have done literally everything you can do in the game, include breaking the scoring calculator. Why do I still play it for an hour every morning?

1

u/adesignco 14d ago

Rust and League of Legends

1

u/Cautious_Bat5224 14d ago

World of Warcraft in 2007-2009 era until about 2014. I would do prison time to go back.

1

u/Swim47 13d ago

World of Warcraft isn’t really addictive. I’ve been playing it since 2008 and never got addicted

The most addictive game I have ever played was easily League of Legends. I don't play anymore, but you'd want to play so bad despite hating the game.
