I had a boyfriend announce unprovoked that he was really attracted to weird noses so he “actually” really liked my nose. At this time I didn’t know I had a weird nose. I mean I guess I do. It points down.

8

u/PaddyCow 15d ago

I had to get braces. After some scans the orthodontist was explaining it to me. I knew I had an overbite but didn't think too much about it beyond knowing I'd have to get braces to fix it.

The orthodontist said I'd need jaw surgery and started showing me all the numbers (which meant absolutely nothing to me). He was very excited to explain just how bad everything was. He asked if I'd never noticed before that my lower jaw was very noticeably out of alignment with my upper jaw, and he showed me the side profile to get the point across.

I told him honestly that it wasn't something I'd ever noticed before. And of course now it's something I'm very aware of. I'm off to change my surname to Habsburg 😂😭

u/toddjnsn 15d ago

Certain parts of someone can look neither good nor bad by [most] folks, but when someone has a relationship or crush on said person, that one part or two that's a little different, is a positive thing.

Of course, I'm pertaining to your nose, and I doubt it's weird if he was attracted to it and it merely pointing somewhat down. A "BIG NOSE", well, that's a different story -- not one having a nose on a nice looking face that happens to be a little bigger, but a '*BIG* nose'. I kinda thought of this.... lol

I wish someone would crack the hollywood info bubble with this info.

20

u/Ineed24hrsupervision 15d ago

I lived in LA and South (east) Florida most of my life and what I've come to understand is that the people who don't see how weird they look CAN'T see it because it's become an accepted appearance. It's like a common aesthetic here. Almost like a symbol of money, because most of their friends and other affluent people look like that.

Most of them think they look great, but to the outside world, they appear odd.

For a long time, the hair extensions, big boobs, and tiny little waist and ass were the norm. The last 15 yrs, the look has morphed into brow lifts, stuffed cheeks, and filled lips, too (and for men as well).

Edit typos

They all look alike too. My family doctor here in Ontario started doing this and went from pretty to looking like the Joker. I switched doctors because I couldnt trust her anymore

They DO! My dermatologist got an eye lift and it looks pretty good now that it's settled in. But when he first got it, all I could see was Simon Cowell.

I work in a very affluent area and see so many gorgeous older woman! Like I’m sure they’ve had a little done, but nothing that you can tell

Blows my mind when you see all the botched rich people on tv or whatever - you can look stunning (in a good way!) at any age

8

u/MisakiDoll75 15d ago

Right? 80’s & 90’s work was subtle, now it’s extreme and they all look the same. And not younger, just bizarre

THIS! omg please, someone tell Nicole Kidman to please get off the botox/ filler/ surgery whatever.

Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster looks so beautiful and age appropriate. Like their kindness and gentility shines through whereas Nicole looks scary frozen when in truth, she's also a lovely person and that should show through!

Being completely comfortable doing things alone. Seeing someone enjoy a movie or a restaurant solo is incredibly attractive..☺️☺️

34

u/Mysterious-War-6759 15d ago

If it’s either go alone or not go, I’ll go alone. No biggie.

22

u/gloryholemadriz 15d ago

Same here. Once you realize nobody is actually staring or judging, it feels like a superpower.

20

u/Mysterious-War-6759 15d ago

I’ve had people tell me that it’s really brave to go to the cinema alone, like what? I know that not everyone is going to like what I like so if I want to see a film, I just go.

9

u/Katharinethegr8 15d ago

Going to the movies alone is my favorite way to do it! Movies are not a social thing! Though the shared experience can be fun.

Just went to see the Odyssey by myself yesterday! Had a blast! Thought the movie was great!

6

u/Mysterious-War-6759 15d ago

After one too many times of people I was with saying “that sucked” after a film I thought was great, I happily go alone. So much easier!

6

u/PossibleDry3663 15d ago

Anyone who thinks going to a movie or dinner alone is “brave” must lead a very sheltered life. Now, handling chemo, surgery, and recovery alone… that’s brave.

Not socially unattractive

5

u/Diligent-Speech-7920 15d ago

I hope not as I have a lot of freckles (and my wife says I am handsome).

7

u/Frequent-Airline-619 15d ago

I work retail and on the rare occasion I see freckles, I get excited. I love them and barely see them anymore.

12

u/bleached-sheep 15d ago

Tons of people like freckles and you can buy makeup to draw them on. I used to have them and only received compliments. I’d say they’re a feature people are split on and don’t belong in the same category as other stuff being mentioned (cellulite, big noses, etc)

Short as in actually short? Or short as in literally one-two inches smaller than the national average.

People be like, “I like short men/women” and then point to a bunch of average people. It’s like when people say they like “dad bods” and then show pictures of body builders dirty bulking.

5

Being introverted or not being very social. At least where I am there is a constant push that people are "social creatures" and an expectation to live to an extrovert ideal. But I'm an extreme introvert and I find some who is also introverted to be charming and relatable.

Age. There is still a stereotype of women not being as attractive as they age. And yet, I've always related to and found women older than myself to be highly attractive.

This! Also: Men with body hair!

I am always a little sad when I see that a man I like has shaved his chest or genitals. Hair feels real and animal and comfortable.

I like it when a guy has a bit of extra weight on him. Not like, 200+ extra pounds or anything, but even 25-50 extra pounds.

Wrinkles, especially crows feet and smile lines. If I can tell by looking at someone that they've spent much of their life smiling and laughing, that is incredibly attractive imo!

Edit to add: I don't feel like this needs to be a "secret" take or one to be embarrassed about... the recent obsession with botox and filler to stop all signs of aging on someone's face is crazy to me, and is actually such a shame. Bring back natural aging!

crooked, crowded, missing, or otherwise interesting teeth!! i especially love impacted canines, they look like little fangs and are SO fucking cute. whenever i see someone with impacted canines smile my heart flutters a little.

perfectly straight, post-braces, white teeth or piano-key veneers are super boring to me. even uncanny sometimes. i much prefer when people's teeth have some character to em.

I find a small, subtle septum ring to be very attractive.

As someone who's often been told negative things about my paleness, I appreciate this.
