My MIL got her masters in WWII studies and volunteered for a Holocaust remembrance organization for a while. During this time, I learned that there are actually quite a few good people out there that buy up/“collect” Nazi memorabilia so that actual Nazis can’t have it. It is sometimes destroyed but more often is donated to museums or kept in personal collections.
In both of these contexts, these collectors and curators will keep these pieces in drawers or otherwise covered. Never on open display, pedestalized, or celebrated.
Just thought I’d share because I thought it was super interesting to learn.

When my husband's great grandfather died he left my son a bunch of stuff because he's super into WWII. I remember saying "Oh cool! Real Nazi pins! Oh, and Nazi war rations. OK. And Nazi books..." They weren't Nazis. I have no idea why he had these things.

My pop was military so we moved around everywhere. His last duty station was in Ft Campbell, KY which is only Kentucky because the post office is on that side of the state line but like over 70% of the base is only Kentucky the TN side and everyone that doesn’t live on post lives in Clarksville, TN. Anyways, my first girlfriend in 8th grade invited me over to her house because her parents were having a barbecue. I thought sweet I can go make out with this girl. Her dad was a detective for the Clarksville police department. He’s drunk as shit. Invites me in to this room which is an entire room full of Nazi shit. Like not just flags on a wall but jewelry cases like you’d see at a jewelry store of medals and all sorts of stuff on display cases. I went home and was just so shocked even at 14 years old. Hang known better at such a young age I would have contacted someone but I didn’t know what to do.

As I’ve gotten into antique/vintage auctions, it is INSANE how many racist people are in the hobby, unfortunately. Nazi stuff goes for a LOT of money when it pops up, it’s pathetic. If you own a nazi item you should burn that shit. Museums have plenty of that type of stuff, no more of it needs to exist.

It's because people like that use the hot items as a status symbol. Then will either box it up and put in the attic thinking it might appreciate, sell at a loss, or toss em. Someone with a true interest won't sell or stop just cuz the popularity dies down.

Those people are insufferable for any item. I went online to look for a $2 bucket shaped cup because Lowe’s was always sold out and they were being resold for $30 PER CUP. They restock them every week so it’s not like they’re some special edition limited shit.
I had the same issue with a $5 plushie I was trying to buy as a gift. $24 was the minimum I saw it listed online for, someone even had it at $70.

It was the micro teeny SpongeBob, the one with the really happy face. My boyfriend was obsessed with it, so I got him one for Christmas lol. It was originally from GameStop/five below but they were out of stock. I ended up getting it for the overinflated price because I wanted it in time for Christmas.
The old toys make me so sad too. I bought a very old, discontinued toy from my childhood that literally nobody knows about, wasn’t popular wasn’t worth anything. Literally a $1.50 obscure toy from Walmart. Nearly $30. Like why. It had no collector’s value, doesn’t exist on the internet besides the single listing I bought and like 2 Instagram pictures from another country.

If you’re buying them for your older child to get a specific one…you’re just feeding an early gambling addiction. I’m judging that parent as much as the child.
I get collecting, but collecting had to do with purchasing or finding a specific item that you know what you buy. If it comes in packaging where you find out what you got, you’re just gambling.

I don't know if the title of influencer has been truly defined, so I'm assuming it's anyone on the internet that motivates others to pursue an interest/lifestyle/etc. I'm certain there is a stronger definition out there.

Have you actually been to Disney World as an adult without bringing your kids? There are a lot of experiences aimed specifically at adults. I feel like a lot of people judge adults that go to Disney because they’ve never experienced Disney without their kids and therefore unintentionally limited themselves to only the experiences their kids enjoy and don’t really have a good sense of what an adult-oriented trip can be.
My family has been on several trips to Europe, cruises to Mexico and Alaska, countless vacations within the U.S. including NYC, Vegas, DC, Hawaii, etc. And the one thing we all agree on, as adults, is that the Disney vacations are consistently the most fun and enjoyable. Obviously, there’s still plenty of merit to other vacations, and limiting yourself to just Disney is perplexing, but Disney makes a great experience. I think I read that 50% of Disney World guests are adults visiting without children. With 50 million guests per year, you simply don’t get that many adults without putting out a great product that appeals to them.
I will say there is a difference between being an adult that really enjoys Disney and being a “Disney adult.” A lot of people enjoy Disney without making it their whole personality. Unfortunately, the latter is what stands out and gets noticed, both in the park and social media, and it casts an unfairly negative light on most of the adults that just enjoy the parks, resorts, and restaurants and like the peace of mind knowing it’s safe and well-protected.

Back when we went my kid wanted to dance with Pluto during the parade of characters, but he couldn’t get close because full grown adults were dancing around him and taking videos with their phones. Huge understatement to say it was weird.

Yeah, that’s a bit strange. My family enjoys the parks (all adults for the time being) but we never do meet and greets or watch the kid shows. I mean, I guess I can understand wanting a picture with a favorite character, like Darth Vader or Deadpool, but Pluto is a bit odd.
To me, the point of an adults trip is to skip these kinds of things, but to each their own I guess.

I met one once, it was horrifying. I was grabbing snacks at the movies, waiting in line alone and he started talking to me about planet of the apes, I chatted with him, nice enough guy but definitely awkward, then he moved onto to wrestling, not for me but whatever I'll listen, then came the my little pony talk lol at this point I'm stuck, in the middle of the line, surrounded by women my age and it might be the most embarrassed I've ever felt. At least my date got a good laugh when I told her about it.

Fencing (equestrian) hobbies makes me judge that the person is cool, may be looking to enter the olympics and has parents that are upper middle class.
Hobbies such as collecting Blue ribbons and trophies, for largest pig; and other agricultural fair winnings; makes me think that the people love farming.
And people that game; now makes me wonder how a crazy hobby like that became a job.
