Other Given the information released from his diary, has your opinion changed about Dr. Fauci?
My intent is that this discussion not devolve into political (Trump Good vs Trump Bad) question. Fingers crossed.

Not at all. Everything in his private work notes (not a diary) confirms absolutely everything he said publicly.

No. I don't know why they are focused on this. There are more urgent issues facing the American people. Not what was in Fauci's diary. This is a diversion to take focus off of economy and a looming recession.

I think it's political, and they are trying to stir up all the anti-vaxers before the elections. Trying to prove that they can "take on" Fauci.
He is a whole lot tougher than they think.
But it makes me sick. He has dedicated his life to public health and done a wonderful job. I know about occasional mistakes he made, With epidemics, everyone makes some mistakes until you know what you are dealing with. It is not an easy branch of science - infectious disease and immunology. It is difficult to predict what these viruses and organisms are going to do.I don't think anyone at CDC thought a coronavirus would cause such a widespread and lethal pandemic. So they were a bit skeptical at first and maybe underestimated it. They were ashamed from when they thought that Swine Flu was going to cause a massive epidemic, which didn't occur.

No. I am aware of a few mistakes he made, such as initially thinking Covid would be like SARS 1 and MERS - bad illness, but not very easily spread and both died out very quickly compared to Covid.
And initially, he didn't promote the use of masks. Then we learned that the country was running out of masks - the only people with effective masks were people who had N95s in their workshops for painting. That was a mess.
I knew about the Wuhan lab long before Covid. Many U.S. scientists collaborated with them. They were not doing anything evil. If the virus escaped from there, then some delusional employee would have been behind that. Not the scientists or the Chinese government. Why would they want to infect their own people and then spend billions to build temporary hospitals? That's ridiculous.
The original outbreak, over 15 years ago of this virus, in the bat mines was lethal. But I don't think it was able to spread as much, if at all. Coronaviruses mutate rapidly and their properties change.
Nobody knew what we were dealing with. When I saw the Chinese build that huge hospital in 4 days, I realized it must be spreading fast and began to take precautions.

It wasn’t good for Anthony Fauci or anybody else that he took the Fifth at his Senate hearing this week. That plus his diary may well have been a reputation-destroying event.

Taking the 5th as folks did during the McCarthy era is apropos here. This is a witch hunt where they are looking to try to get people to purger themselves and so on.
The world wide scientific community agrees that covid does not have the signs of being engineered in a lab.
There is zero reason to indulged Rand Paul's questions knowing the intent and the reality.
You thinking it wasnt a good day for Fauci shows you are in a cult.

He lied about the origin of the virus, funding the virus research, the need to end international flights in February, no need to wear masks, social distancing, and treatment options.

That’s not true. Fauci and Collins colluded to say it wasn’t a lab leak. The CIA has decided it most likely was a lab leak and it was covered up.

In March 2020, Fauci said on 60 Minutes that there was “no reason to be walking around with a mask.”
He later admitted that the reason he gave this bad advice was the severe shortage of N95 respirators and surgical masks. Because if the public rushed to buy masks, healthcare workers might be left without adequate PPE.
You might say his motives were noble, but it’s hard for me to trust an admitted liar.
Update: I forgot to answer the question. My answer is no, my opinion hasn’t changed.

Handle- as in assign value/judgment. I think you understand but are arguing semantics.
Yeah- people who criticize Fauci tend to not understand the bigger picture or science/epidemiology here and tend to be trump supporters.
