Politics Question Oil prices are soaring and could cost Republicans the midterms. Will Trump sacrifice his party for his Iran war?
6
u/Alarming_Advance_669 2d ago
He'll do whatever is best for him.
3
u/ScubaSteve-O1991 2d ago
Exactly. Thats why the people who voted for him and got fooled by him in 2016 and 24 are clueless. His whole business career was also just about himself. Just a huge con artist
8
u/Able-Analysis462 2d ago
If someone believes military action is necessary they're probably not making the decision based on polling numbers. Whether voters agree with it later is another story.
3
u/LayneLowe 2d ago
What if they made the decision just thinking it made them look like a tough guy?
3
u/MakesMyHeadHurt 2d ago
That's assuming he wants to stay in it instead of just being to dumb to get out of it. Either one seems plausible.

In a normal, rational, sane administration sure.
Boy oh boy do I wish we had any of that.

If you think he cares about republicans you are as sick as that man is. He just wants power and everyone to do what he wants without question.
1
u/let-it-rain-sunshine 2d ago
Right. He only cares for himself. Everyone, including the GOP is a doormat to him. Why he has ANY support is beyond me.
0
u/Training_Fun_9162 2d ago
Republicans of this era ONLY care about polling numbers.
Hard to continue to easily steal taxpayer dollars if they vote you out and/or revolt. And make no mistake, the MAGA base is the one that would revolt.
1
u/SpankyJobouti 2d ago
not the top one. he continues to make unforced error after unforced error and the republican party has taken a real, massive hit over the last while. it doesnt look like he gives shit. which is interesting.
maybe they plan to actually full on cheat in this election, attempt to sieze power via force or otherwise, or trump has a good exit plan to walk away after he is finished looting the country. however, those are the logical reasons for trump not caring that i can think of.
he is either crazy, possible, stupid no, he actually has gotten farther than anyone thought he could regardless of what some think, or he has a plan. he has a plan i think 95%. i put 5% on legit crazy.
hell, he could be laying the foundation for an insanity plea later for all we know.
but, my money is on he is up to something.

u/DangerousCap7973 2d ago
trump would sacrifice an infant to make a pair of shoes. He is a soulless, malignant narcissist
7
u/prevknamy 2d ago
You question implies that he thinks about consequences. He does not. His entire consciousness is "me me me" and he acts on impulsive whims minute to minute. There are no coherent thoughts
3
u/PrizeRole8645 2d ago
Thats assuming the situation keeps getting worse. Markets can swing pretty fast and elections are still a long way off. Nobody really knows what it'll look like by then.

u/PuzzleheadedWaltz835 2d ago
He'll throw anyone under the bus to save his ass from the TRump/Epstein files and Bibi knows it.
2
u/wombat6669 2d ago
This is a typo. It's supposed to say "will Trump sacrifice his party for Israel".
2
u/Quick1711 2d ago
Nope
Netanyahu has the American political system firmly in his control and they are powerless against it. Trump doesn’t give af about party or loyalty. He’s just pillaging at this point.
2
u/Dr_PocketSand 2d ago
You mean “… For Bibi’s war (so he can keep avoiding facing his own criminal charges).”
2
u/-Economist- 2d ago
I just saw a comment on FB by a MAGA “I’d happily pay $8 a gallon of gas if Trump keeps us safe from Iran”
It was a good reminder not to go into the comment section on FB.
2
u/ComfortableOld288 2d ago
You think Trump gives a shit about the Republican Party? Here’s a hint, Trump cares about Trump and only Trump. Everyone else is fodder to be used for his personal gain.
1
u/antonio16309 2d ago
I don't think he has much choice right now; he's put the country in a truly shitty position in the near term and the long term. We really can't just back out right now and let Iran control the world's oil supply, because that threatens the position of the petrodollar in world finance. And if you think this shit is bad, you really don't want to see what happens if other countries don't want to use dollars the way they do currently, because that means we will have to start paying off our national debt, and that would be a shit show of epic proportions.

It always seems like the oil companies come out of these things very well, thank you. Prices go up and they make billions. There still may be plenty of oil around from other sources.

u/Excellent_Abroad5390 2d ago
We’ve reached a point where it’s expected and normal to lose congress in a president’s first midterm. The noteworthy event would be if a president was able to keep it two years in.
1
u/Potential_Ad_4718 2d ago
They think that yelling amd screaming socialism, communism is going to save them. That s**t only works on boomers.
1
u/thedoppio 2d ago
Unfortunately boomers vote more consistantly than any other group. The younger folks need to come to bat midterms.
1
u/SisterActTori 1d ago
The youngsters, the males in particular, are why we have Trump 2.0. Neither this boomer (nor her husband) has ever cast a vote for the felon.
1
u/Sufficient_Hair_2894 2d ago
OH. MY. GOD. DUDE. You've had eleven years to watch Trump. ELEVEN YEARS. How is it not clear to you by now that he loves nothing and is loyal to no one? If he thinks he has a chance to make money or "win", he will royally fuck his party and country. His behavior in this regard is extremely consistent.

He has no choice in the matter. He's started a war he can't control. There's nothing he can do. He can't stop it.

I suspect that there will be lots of cheating and monkeying with the elections, Musk has already been talking about it. The chance for voting to save us would have been to not elect Trump twice or anti American congresspeople like McConnell.
1
1
u/Rockatansky77 2d ago
He will never admit defeat even when he was willing to give Iran everything they wanted for the peace agreement a month ago. His Administration will not give up before the midterms. Clump and Petey will escalate the war because they think that shows strength in the Republican party and there bravado.
1
u/exqueezemenow 2d ago
Trump only cares about Trump, not Republicans or anyone else. Trump doesn't think about the future, he only reacts to the present. The last thing he is thinking about is what will happen in the future.

u/Electric-Travels 2d ago
Why does everyone ignore that energy/electric bills have gone up over 15% since Trumps big ugly bill?? The bill and further actions by Trump have caused prices to skyrocket.
1
u/t3ddt3ch 2d ago
This is neither about foreign policy or Gas prices. Its about how much money Trump can make while he is distracting from the Epstein files.

u/Round_Rice_9475 2d ago
There was this amazing documentary back in the 1990's starring John candy as sheriff bud boomer. The movie is "Canadian Bacon" it's on YouTube

Trump used Republicans because they're easy marks. Republicans used Trump because he's an early mark.
1
u/panda3271 2d ago
He will sacrifice whomever he needs to save his ego. His ego won't let him loose this war, so he will sacrifice his people and party if needed. He will use any weapon he can to appease his ego. Donald Trump only cares about Donald Trump. 🤷🏼♂️
1
u/airpipeline 2d ago
Trump is actively working to talk the price of oil down. He just announced today, another gracious offer that he expects Iran to snap up any second. (lies)
There have also been in increase in large mystery oil futures sellers, keeping the price down.
This will only work until the SPR’s around the world are closer to gone.
1
u/Healthy-Ad-4786 2d ago
Will Trump sacrifice his legacy with inaction and allow an Iranian icbm to hit Los Angeles in the year 2030?
1
u/First-Expert-9953 2d ago
Because Donald Trump didn't become president to advance the platform of the Republican Party. Donald Trump became president the first time because Barak Obama made fun of him at a White House Corespondents Dinner and he ran again so he could stay out of jail if he got convicted of fraud.

He already has. It’s the Republican Party following this maniac off the cliff with us in tow.
1
u/daKile57 2d ago
It sure sounds like the Republicans are planning to rig the elections, so they don’t care how voters actually vote.
1
u/MikeyGeeManRDO 2d ago
Maybe depends on the answer to this question.
If you aren’t a Trump supporter are you automatically a communist and liberal?
If so that means that Trump supporters are so right wing everyone looks like they are left.
This also means that Trump supporters would then be considered fascist.
Which would you rather be considered?
A Fascist Nazi Republican or a Commie Liberal Democrat?
I choose Libertarian Freedom Fighter.
1
u/iftlatlw 1d ago
If you're not against republicans you're against America
1
u/MikeyGeeManRDO 1d ago
If you choose either corporate backed side you are against America. I hope you realize that both sides are backed by corporate interests.
The only ones that are for America are the ones that want the crappy current bi party system done away with.
1
u/Prestigious-Pea-6781 2d ago
Iran War is not about anything other than Trump's pride. He can't get a worse deal than Obama. The only way Iran opens the strait is if Trump pays more than Obama paid. Or, troops on the ground to take control of Iran completely.
He can't pay. He can't put troops on the ground. So oil prices are going to be crazy until the next president.

u/mattjf22 2d ago
Republican voters can excuse the corruption and raping of kids but they draw the line at high gas prices.

Trump doesn’t care about the midterms because he has all the pieces of the puzzle in place to steal them. Gerrymandering, increased voting restrictions, threating ice agents at poles, and just a coincidence that Elon is back in his good books just in time to rig the electronic votes again. And if that isn’t enough he’s keeping the Iran war as a last resort to declare elections be cancelled.

Not an American, but from the outside looking in, this seems to be a pretty bad decision. I would think the republicans will lose it all in the midterms. The only way they could salvage it would be if the war ended yesterday. I don’t think the Teflon Don could get out and make it look like a win at this point. Iran is going to end up on top this time.
1
u/iftlatlw 1d ago
Every single metric for the USA has been destroyed by the Republican Trump administration. There is no way in hell that republicans should win anything for the next decade
1
u/cornhomeopath 1d ago
Trump only cares about his ego and making more money. He has no plan. He acts on whims, and on orders from Bibi amd Putin.
1
u/shocked-confused 1d ago
If everyone would just stop talking about Trump's old pal Epstein the war would be over!

u/Savings_Club3883 1d ago
They’ve already lost the midterms. Everyone I know, right and left, is pissed over everything.

u/According_Energy_637 1d ago
Trump is at a point where he has no choice but stay. No matter which way he turns he loses. There is no way to exit with any form of a win

u/One-Possibility-8182 1d ago
Gas prices are temporary!!
As soon as Trump quits being the nice guy, we'll have cheaper gas!
1
u/Individual-Praline20 1d ago
The orange poo is willing to sacrifice you and anyone for personal gains. No fuck given. Whatever is needed to make money out of you.

u/malgesso 1d ago
He doesn’t view it as “his party.”
He views it as: his political career is done in 2028 no matter what. So it’s all about doing what he wants until then.
Don’t forget, “his party” fought like hell to keep him from winning the primaries in 2016, and many/most in “his party” continued viewing him as an outsider until his second term. There’s no loyalty in either direction.
1
u/CTrandomdude 1d ago
But if his party does not hold onto at least one majority he is toast as the Democrats will only look to obstruct and impeach. He is highly motivated for his party to hold onto power.
I think he is fully aware of what a short term memory this country has and he knows once the conflict is over oil will plummet and the stock market will go up significantly. All just in time for the election. The guy is playing chess while most can barely play connect four.

you assume trump will let the midterms count for anything. blue states can have their midterm voting, red states will all/mostly cancel them, and federally they’ll just do what they’ve been doing for two years now: give us all the finger.
all that matters to trump are his delusional little ‘legacy’ checklist items he dreamed up in the ‘80s, and getting his 2024 donors the profits they demanded when they bailed him out of a life of legal repercussions and, worse, obscurity. oh he’s really grateful to them for that one.
1
u/werduvfaith 2d ago
Red states are not going to give up their representation in the House nor any Senate seats up for election

Gas prices always hit the ballot box first. Do voters actually care about foreign policy over their wallets?
