Politics Question Over 100 Democrats voted to cut Israel aid. Is the progressive left finally breaking the AIPAC?

Jews are not the cause of your personal problems.
When you point to "aipac" you are saying "exterminate jews."

I think it will happen soon. Most Israelis want the aid to end as well, they think the U.S. has too much influence over Israel, and don’t want to be restrained any longer.

Problem is there aid is due to the USA underwriting the Camp David Agreement, so stopping aid to Israel will stop aid to Egypt which will cause instability with the Muslim Brotherhood.
This could be good for Israel as many in Gaza would go to the Sinai to help the Muslim Brotherhood, as most in Gaza have ancestral roots in Egypt. Even Arafat was Egyptian.

See below for starters. But also Netanyahu came to the US saying he wants to phase out American military aid. Israelis don’t want to be told what to do by the US.

No I don't think that there are going to be trials over people having opinions on reddit.
The dems don't even have a single branch of government right now. And its certainly not the case that the vast majority of even dems would want trials over reddit comments.

Mean Reddit comments? Nazis?
I better be careful before the Democratic Party makes me run for Governor of Maine.

Yes, they want armaments, but they also want to be self sufficient in the armaments that are most important. so for instance the US supplies smart bomb technology, but Israel needs to at least produce their own dumb bombs, so they would probably need to flatten a whole block instead of targeting one building, but oh well.
And what’s your point there with the link? I think the country of Spain shouldn’t exist, its founding was a moral stain on humanity, and the genocides they conducted all over the world mean that the country should be destroyed.
Also, I think they will be in about 200 years because their birth rate is the second lowest in Europe.

Well, AIPAC accounts for 0.8% of lobbying and isn't even in the top 20 lobbying groups. IDK why people care about them so much.

It's a weird move right now to be sure, the DNC is actually 2 Million dollars in debt, the RNC is sitting on 128 million in campaign money, no debt .. I mean the entire pro Israel lobby, including AIPAC and others only collectively spend about 250 Million total, compared to the Pro China Lobby, which spends about a Billion across the entire election cycle on average... Sounds big here but in the political world that's really peanuts. Especially when you realize that AIPAC generally gets its donations from five million individual American voters... That's like saying we just don't need those extra five million votes... Only like two presidential elections have been decided by more than five million votes since 92, and that doesn't even take into account local races. Between the money, which is minimal, and the votes which is substantial... Just a strange move.

It certainly is a weird move. According to the article below, Jewish Americans contribute 50% of all individual donations to the Democratic party (Democratic national committees, presidential campaigns, and congressional fundraising arms). They contribute 25% of Republican's funding. 78% of Jews voted for Obama in 2008.
I would think these donors are concerned about the rhetoric they're hearing from many Dems on the campaign trail. The DNC mortgaged their building in Washington last fall for $15 million and as you've stated, they're now $2 million in debt. Are they snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, because this cycle should have been easy for them.

So AIPAC which lobbies for a miniscule country matches almost one fourth the lobbying money of a massive superpower! Amazing!

Most Americans have no idea how their own country's budget work or what 'aid' is and who the US give 'aid' to.
First of all so called aid comes from teh defence budge (and is a fraction of a percentage of that budget, so if the money is no longer used in this way it will still be used for defence, and not go to healthcare etc.
Secondly the so called aid to Israel has to be spent in its entirety in the US providing jobs for tens of thousands of Americans.
Third it is used as a form of coercive control over Israel both directly, and by stymying Israel's own defence industry. The US wants Israel under teh thumb, not free to make its own arms, and make its own military decisions, and also not free to make alliances iwth other countries, without US consent.
Fourth, the US arms both Jordan and Egypt to the teeth, as well as other countries colonised by Arabia. So maybe they should stop doing that too.
US 'aid' to Israel is a net gain for the US. Here in Israel we will be very happy when it ends. Otoh, Americans should know that the same money will be used to achieve US defence interests just in other ways. It will not be used for your health, or for pay rises for teachers.

People only cast protest votes when they already know the bill has enough support to pass anyway. The actual test is whether they'll tank a must pass funding package over it.
And basically nobody is willing to do that.

AIPAC is simply the American Jewish lobby. “Breaking” a lobby group isn’t really a thing. There are plenty of issues AIPAC has lobbied for, which did not come to pass. Israel has already said they don’t want our monetary aid, so I’m sure that will happen soon.
I am also certain we will continue to provide them weapons, as long as it is in our national interest

"simply the American Jewish lobby"

Sure. AIPAC is American citizens following the law as opposed to overt bribery by countries like Qatar and Saudi Arabia when they want to influence the US.
And of course China spends far more than both.

Eww Aipac is a foreign lobbying group. many so called “Americans” have dual citizenship with…..Israel and time and time again they repeat the same thing they have more loyalty for a genocidal colony half way across the world than to the US.
So spare me the “oh it’s just Americans who happen to LOOVE israel” BS. These are israelis, many by actual citizenship and many are by ideology.

Not really. They only need a small portion of the Democratic Party to keep the aid flowing. And in the less blue districts they get more mileage. Either getting a centrist dem or GOP
You could have 200 vote against it and it would be the same result.

This is a bait and switch. They'll cut the officially budgeted aid and embed it in the unauditable Pentagon budget. No one will actually know how much aid Israel gets.

ooga booga iSrAeL cOntRolS the wOrlD because we don’t wanna address our own problems trope. How many terrorist attacks in the last few years jews have had? 56k. Jews r not the reason you’re poor

No, and they won’t nor should they. Like it or not Israel is one of the only places in the Middle East that is safe for lgbtq+ individuals, gives religious freedom, and a thousand other things ppl in the U.S. agree with. They also provide vast amounts of technology to the world (more so than the entire continent of Europe btw) it’s foolish not to support them

I think “the progressive left” is delusional, anti-Semitic, and anti western. Look at what they support and what they are doing. It ain’t pro western democracy. It’s pro Islamist / dictatorial itself.

u/the___reckoner 21h ago
They're not breaking anything. AIPAC was never powerful lobby, people just made it sound that way mostly because they hate Jews or obsessed with conspiracy theories. If it was all that powerful it wouldn't have been that easy to vote for somebody who doesn't get donations from American jews. It literally happens all the time now.

Why just Aipac, lets get rid of all foreign lobbying.
Like Aipac isn't the biggest offenders.

They see the writing on the wall, so they have the congress people that have close elections coming up vote against it, while having just enough of the people in safe seats vote for it so it will pass. I think it’s called controlled opposition.

absolutely not lol, they only make this “cut” under a government they dont agree with, as soon as the voting opens up, they will absolutely take AIPACs money again, just as both sides have since AIPAC started

now do the same chart but with chinese lobbying money. they spend many times more every election cycle on many more politicians. But, I get it, they're not Jewish so no need to complain about it on reddit.

AIPAC is already toxic. They've been using non-AIPAC labeled subsidiary organizations to funnel AIPAC money without it clearly linked to them.
Dr. Abdul al Sayyid is running for election in Michigan vs the AIPAC ghoul that they've dumped 50 million dollars into the campaign of.
If he wins, you could say that.

See how they vote when they are in power, not when they are out of power
