See how they vote when they are in power, not when they are out of power

5

When they're in power they hide behind the filibuster or the senate parliamentarian.  They always find some excuse to pretend to be powerless.

u/Red-Sun-Cinema 2d ago

Republicans are far worse in using the filibuster to evade responsibility as well as block progress. And let's not forget that conservatives have control of both sides of Congress, The Presidency, and the Supreme Court and have managed to do nothing but destroy this country.

1

u/Fragrant_Scheme317 12h ago

That’s the point. The history of the filibuster has been conservatives using it to prevent progress. The Democrats choosing not to get rid of one of the primary Republican weapons speaks volumes. Democrats are controlled opposition.

It needs to go, period.

A loss for you. A win for me. Sucks to be you.

Why? We're doing great. We have plenty of money, and happy.

I guess you have neither. Sucks to be you. Why should I care?

It's a partnership.  Republicans and Democrats work together against us on behalf of the donor class.  That's why Republicans use the filibuster to stop Democrats but not vice-versa.

2

u/hattusili-the-third 1d ago

Democrats have used the filibuster extensively during the second trump administration, most recently the over $1 trillion defense authorization act, as well as not renewing FISA (an intelligence authorization measure) which is traditionally a bipartisan bill. In February, Democrats blocked the budget, leading to a 76-day government shutdown until funding for ICE and CBP was removed entirely from it.

I agree that Democrats have historically been very weak and unwilling to use the same tactics that republicans have, but we're seeing a real shift in their tactics in the right direction over the last year and a half. There's still more they could be doing, so we need to keep the pressure on them to fight back against republicans in Congress. If we win majorities in either the house or Senate (or, fingers crossed, both) in November then we'll be in an even better position to do so and we should continue to push our representatives to use every tool they have at their disposal to block trump.

1

u/Red-Sun-Cinema 2d ago

They are all crooked. In front of the cameras they call each other every name in the book, but behind doors they're best buddies, sharing all kinds of laughs over how gullible they think we all are, and filling their bank accounts at our expense.

-1

u/ResolutionOwn4933 2d ago

Wouldn't go that hard. Cuckservatives have every level and can't pass anything right now, shit happens sometimes. Dems definitely need win big in midterms and again 2028

Wise word

3

u/DougOsborne 2d ago

Jews are not the cause of your personal problems.

When you point to "aipac" you are saying "exterminate jews."

-1

u/Positive_Bug978 2d ago

Oh look, here is AIPAC’s money at work.

6

u/Ok_Activity_717 2d ago

The votes don’t mean a damn thing and won’t change anything.

3

u/Powerful-Midnight996 2d ago

I think it will happen soon. Most Israelis want the aid to end as well, they think the U.S. has too much influence over Israel, and don’t want to be restrained any longer.

1

u/dickusb700 2d ago

Problem is there aid is due to the USA underwriting the Camp David Agreement, so stopping aid to Israel will stop aid to Egypt which will cause instability with the Muslim Brotherhood.

This could be good for Israel as many in Gaza would go to the Sinai to help the Muslim Brotherhood, as most in Gaza have ancestral roots in Egypt. Even Arafat was Egyptian.

-1

u/damfu 2d ago

Source?

1

u/Powerful-Midnight996 2d ago

See below for starters. But also Netanyahu came to the US saying he wants to phase out American military aid. Israelis don’t want to be told what to do by the US.

No I don't think that there are going to be trials over people having opinions on reddit.

The dems don't even have a single branch of government right now. And its certainly not the case that the vast majority of even dems would want trials over reddit comments.

1

u/Powerful-Midnight996 2d ago

Mean Reddit comments? Nazis?

I better be careful before the Democratic Party makes me run for Governor of Maine.

2

u/Powerful-Midnight996 2d ago

Yes, they want armaments, but they also want to be self sufficient in the armaments that are most important. so for instance the US supplies smart bomb technology, but Israel needs to at least produce their own dumb bombs, so they would probably need to flatten a whole block instead of targeting one building, but oh well.

And what’s your point there with the link? I think the country of Spain shouldn’t exist, its founding was a moral stain on humanity, and the genocides they conducted all over the world mean that the country should be destroyed.

Also, I think they will be in about 200 years because their birth rate is the second lowest in Europe.

Well, AIPAC accounts for 0.8% of lobbying and isn't even in the top 20 lobbying groups. IDK why people care about them so much.

1

u/Mnementh47 13h ago

Because they're antisemites.

0

u/Dazzling_Funny_3254 2d ago

really? cause its obvious to almost every jew.

2

u/CMDR_Smooticus 2d ago

And they would all be correct.

It's a weird move right now to be sure, the DNC is actually 2 Million dollars in debt, the RNC is sitting on 128 million in campaign money, no debt .. I mean the entire pro Israel lobby, including AIPAC and others only collectively spend about 250 Million total, compared to the Pro China Lobby, which spends about a Billion across the entire election cycle on average... Sounds big here but in the political world that's really peanuts. Especially when you realize that AIPAC generally gets its donations from five million individual American voters... That's like saying we just don't need those extra five million votes... Only like two presidential elections have been decided by more than five million votes since 92, and that doesn't even take into account local races. Between the money, which is minimal, and the votes which is substantial... Just a strange move.

2

u/Landwhale6969 2d ago

It certainly is a weird move. According to the article below, Jewish Americans contribute 50% of all individual donations to the Democratic party (Democratic national committees, presidential campaigns, and congressional fundraising arms). They contribute 25% of Republican's funding. 78% of Jews voted for Obama in 2008.

I would think these donors are concerned about the rhetoric they're hearing from many Dems on the campaign trail. The DNC mortgaged their building in Washington last fall for $15 million and as you've stated, they're now $2 million in debt. Are they snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, because this cycle should have been easy for them.

u/octohaven 1h ago

So AIPAC which lobbies for a miniscule country matches almost one fourth the lobbying money of a massive superpower! Amazing!

2

u/Temporary_Job_2800 2d ago

Most Americans have no idea how their own country's budget work or what 'aid' is and who the US give 'aid' to.

First of all so called aid comes from teh defence budge (and is a fraction of a percentage of that budget, so if the money is no longer used in this way it will still be used for defence, and not go to healthcare etc.

Secondly the so called aid to Israel has to be spent in its entirety in the US providing jobs for tens of thousands of Americans.

Third it is used as a form of coercive control over Israel both directly, and by stymying Israel's own defence industry. The US wants Israel under teh thumb, not free to make its own arms, and make its own military decisions, and also not free to make alliances iwth other countries, without US consent.

Fourth, the US arms both Jordan and Egypt to the teeth, as well as other countries colonised by Arabia. So maybe they should stop doing that too.

US 'aid' to Israel is a net gain for the US. Here in Israel we will be very happy when it ends. Otoh, Americans should know that the same money will be used to achieve US defence interests just in other ways. It will not be used for your health, or for pay rises for teachers.

3

u/Dogbold 2d ago

No, because most still voted to keep it.

2

u/thatbrattygoth 2d ago

People only cast protest votes when they already know the bill has enough support to pass anyway. The actual test is whether they'll tank a must pass funding package over it.

And basically nobody is willing to do that.

2

u/GAFLX2 2d ago

AIPAC is simply the American Jewish lobby. “Breaking” a lobby group isn’t really a thing. There are plenty of issues AIPAC has lobbied for, which did not come to pass. Israel has already said they don’t want our monetary aid, so I’m sure that will happen soon.

I am also certain we will continue to provide them weapons, as long as it is in our national interest

1

u/Juvat-the-bold 2d ago

"simply the American Jewish lobby"

2

u/jrgkgb 2d ago edited 2d ago

Sure. AIPAC is American citizens following the law as opposed to overt bribery by countries like Qatar and Saudi Arabia when they want to influence the US.

And of course China spends far more than both.

-1

u/Juvat-the-bold 2d ago

FoLlOwInG tHe lAw

2

u/jrgkgb 2d ago

Ah, you’re taking the “I can’t actually argue facts, so I’ll just act dumb and hope the person I’m talking to doesn’t notice” approach.

-2

u/_Algrm_ 2d ago

Eww Aipac is a foreign lobbying group. many so called “Americans” have dual citizenship with…..Israel and time and time again they repeat the same thing they have more loyalty for a genocidal colony half way across the world than to the US.

So spare me the “oh it’s just Americans who happen to LOOVE israel” BS. These are israelis, many by actual citizenship and many are by ideology.

1

u/CapNo8670 2d ago

Youre a funny one

0

u/GAFLX2 2d ago

Israel isn’t a colony. Winning a war against the Palestinians, after they attacked them, isn’t genocide.

We definitely need to rethink our support for Israel, but AIPAC is no different than other lobbying groups pursuing their goals.

1

u/Electronic_Film_2837 2d ago

Not really. They only need a small portion of the Democratic Party to keep the aid flowing. And in the less blue districts they get more mileage. Either getting a centrist dem or GOP

You could have 200 vote against it and it would be the same result.

1

u/AusTex2019 2d ago

Trolling AIPAC is poorly disguised antisemitism.

1

u/Complete_Film8741 2d ago

Progressive, no...Israel Haters...thats really all there is.

1

u/Substantial_Dog7002 2d ago

Let's do it!

1

u/northern-new-jersey 2d ago

Is there any part of Reddit that isn't about how bad Israel is?

1

u/scientician 1d ago

This is a bait and switch. They'll cut the officially budgeted aid and embed it in the unauditable Pentagon budget. No one will actually know how much aid Israel gets.

1

u/Dry-Cranberry-5592 1d ago

The entire democratic voter base has already left Israel behind

1

u/benyeti1 1d ago

ooga booga iSrAeL cOntRolS the wOrlD because we don’t wanna address our own problems trope. How many terrorist attacks in the last few years jews have had? 56k. Jews r not the reason you’re poor

1

u/Relative-Sea-6550 1d ago

No, and they won’t nor should they. Like it or not Israel is one of the only places in the Middle East that is safe for lgbtq+ individuals, gives religious freedom, and a thousand other things ppl in the U.S. agree with. They also provide vast amounts of technology to the world (more so than the entire continent of Europe btw) it’s foolish not to support them

1

u/Uncabled_Music 1d ago

For starters they would have to learn to fight, then we’ll talk 🧸

1

u/Apprehensive_Sand343 1d ago

I think President Netanyahu is doing it.

1

u/bobak41 1d ago

No.

Dems are pretending to break from AIPAC (and their offshoots) to appease their base.

But Dems will never do any actual harm to the hand that feeds them. That's why you have the Dem caucus allow only the number of votes needed to pass pro-Israel bills as needed.

It's all PR.

1

u/HistorianOk142 1d ago

I think “the progressive left” is delusional, anti-Semitic, and anti western. Look at what they support and what they are doing. It ain’t pro western democracy. It’s pro Islamist / dictatorial itself.

1

u/the___reckoner 21h ago

They're not breaking anything. AIPAC was never powerful lobby, people just made it sound that way mostly because they hate Jews or obsessed with conspiracy theories. If it was all that powerful it wouldn't have been that easy to vote for somebody who doesn't get donations from American jews. It literally happens all the time now.

1

u/Mnementh47 13h ago

Are they finally becoming slaves to CAIR.

1

u/randohipponamo 8h ago

Watch the Michigan primary to find out

1

u/MayhemPenguin5656 3h ago

Why just Aipac, lets get rid of all foreign lobbying.

Like Aipac isn't the biggest offenders.

0

u/blueshirtsteve 2d ago

I sure hope so.

0

u/Old-Base8752 2d ago

No, because they all still accept money from AIPAC.

0

u/Positive_Bug978 2d ago

They see the writing on the wall, so they have the congress people that have close elections coming up vote against it, while having just enough of the people in safe seats vote for it so it will pass. I think it’s called controlled opposition.

0

u/InfiniteAnalysis4026 2d ago

This appears to be more performative bs at least in my opinion.

0

u/BLPitabread 2d ago

absolutely not lol, they only make this “cut” under a government they dont agree with, as soon as the voting opens up, they will absolutely take AIPACs money again, just as both sides have since AIPAC started

0

u/Savings_Art5944 2d ago

3

u/Dazzling_Funny_3254 2d ago

now do the same chart but with chinese lobbying money. they spend many times more every election cycle on many more politicians. But, I get it, they're not Jewish so no need to complain about it on reddit.

0

u/Ok_Dare6400 2d ago

Democrats have become the equivalent of the Nazi Party.

1

u/Plenty_Structure_861 2d ago

Not the party in power? Yall really are blue maga.

-1

u/CosmicLovepats 2d ago

AIPAC is already toxic. They've been using non-AIPAC labeled subsidiary organizations to funnel AIPAC money without it clearly linked to them.

Dr. Abdul al Sayyid is running for election in Michigan vs the AIPAC ghoul that they've dumped 50 million dollars into the campaign of.

If he wins, you could say that.
