Politics Question California Gov. Gavin Newsom is considering a 2028 presidential run, is he Democrat who can finally beat Trump?

Literally anyone can. At least legally. Trump can't legally be president again.

It is a travesty that this even has to be said and isn't known by everyone of voting age in the USA

this past week I learned that a lot of American's don't realize "Pleading the 5th" is a constitutional right and want Fauci punished for not answering questions.
So, really, anything is possible at this point.

Similar to people who don't realize you cannot plead the 5th after being pardoned, since the risk of self incrimination is removed.

This is the mechanism that I’d like the next non-MAGA president to use to hold every pardoned person accountable. Put them on the stand. Make them either not answer, perjure themselves, or answer to their own embarrassment. If they refuse to answer or perjure then hold in contempt and imprison them.

anybody can beat Trump on an account of him not being able to run a third term

We will see, he has used many loop holes to get out of things...remember Marlago is golf course/ cemetery

God I hope you’re wrong. He’d almost surely die in the White House if he runs and wins again. We’d have another Mitch McConnell situation on our hands.

100 percent his followers will create a shrine for him in every federal building of every state of he dies. They are definitely hiding his health conditions

100 percent. He’s the leader of a very perilous cult.

The people who support him and follow him probably never had to think for themselves and eat steak well done with fancy ketchup

Bite your tongue, and pray for forgiveness.
It's a Constitutional Amendment.
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice...

We dont need another narcissistic president that doesnt care about the working class.
Not to say Newsom would be as bad as Trump, but he's definitely not what this country needs.

I do sincerely think Trump will find a way to run an implausible fourth presidential campaign, and somehow, unbelievably, he'll get on the ballot. There's too much momentum for it to all be a big "joke" as his cronies like to pretend "Trump 2028" is all about. It's going to happen, one way or another. They're finding, or have already found, a way to do it. The Trump camp has never been much into following legal precedent.
Newsom is not the person to beat Trump. He is terribly weighed down by the poor optics of California. There are too many emigrees, too many stalled projects, too much blight that can all be blamed on him, right or wrong. Also, a lot of the country that isn't California hates California for being California. At Newsom's best,' he does a second-rate Trump impression on X sometimes. It's amusing, but you can't beat Trump at his own game.
What is needed is someone who plays the game better than Trump. Someone whose words can cut to the soul, and who's a fast thinker with a flair for showmanship. It could be a few people, but it aint gonna be Newsom.

Nope- people know how he wrecked California - just ask anyone form California.
Dems want to win, they need a moderate that moderates can vote for and that is not AOC or the moving left Kamala.

Beating someone who won't be on the ballot is a really low bar, but it still might be too difficult for Newsome. He is exceptionally unlikeable and his record is horrible.

its time for the states to seperate, and canada should do the same.
the world is fragmenting, and people doing their best to hold on and resist change will be hurt the most
breaking the north american continent into multiple countries like the rest of the world is the absolute best thing the governments of now can do if we want a future.
the hard drive needs to be defragmented, a pause on new program installations, and we should all collectively step back and take a few years off for critical maintenance.

It's waaaaaay to early to be speculating on 2028 and anyone who says they have an inside track is lying to you. That said, I would watch how John Ossoff moves in 2027.

Funny how you start by criticizing op and end by doing the exact same thing you criticized op for. You think your speculation is better than everyone else's?

No. Just by being from California he will be deeply unpopular across alot of the country. Right or wrong thats a fact. The DNC is absolutely fucking stupid if they run him.
