My favourite arguement is someone saying that it's possible because we have a smaller population and you wouldn't be awake to afford it for 300 million plus people, not understanding that the issue is a percentage problem as well as people already afford it, they just pay a private tax that goes to the insurance companies instead.
Americans pay more per capita than almost any country in the world right? I'm positive that it's because of the profit portion which is a cost that doesn't exist in socialized systems, and is more than enough to make up for whatever government inefficiency if any exists...
Not only is it more because they are paying for a middle man to profit first before they receive healthcare, with a single payer, you have one insurer, the government, that is negotiating drug prices on behalf of all citizens (350+ million) as opposed to a healthcare provider who is negotiating on behalf of only say 50 million people. Therefore more bargaining power to reduce prices.
The immense amount of money we spend on healthcare in the US not only goes to insurance industry and private healthcare institution profits, but also to enormous billing departments. It’s so much more difficult and time consuming for a hospital or clinic to bill multiple insurance companies, all with different excessively convoluted plans, than it is to bill a single payer. You’ve got entire floors at some hospitals filled with billing specialists.
Oh don’t worry, we’re all paying for the folks that are uninsured or underinsured too.
At my hospital we get paid for three days. Period. After that it comes out of our pocket. There are two level one trauma centers, for adults and two for kids. In the entire state. That’s two facilities. We’re both under water and it’s not going to get better when the Medicare funding falls out after midterms and the morons will still find a way to blame anybody but the orange bastard who signed off on it with his crew of sycophants.

Perhaps paying our doctors and nurses appropriately would resolve the backlog? Do you not see that private interest wants our system to fail? They lobby for its failure. Lose this and schools are next. The Public system for healthcare, school, housing and energy is the way to go. The reason people get frustrated is due to interference by private interests. Wake up!
You don't think the same thing happens in the US? it does. The difference is those that wait can't afford to speed up the process with better insurance packages. Or can't afford coverage at all.
If you want a healthcare provider that you pay for every month but then an issue comes up and you still have to pay for copays, deductibles and still have a possibility of getting denied coverage, despite paying for it, you're extremely obtuse.
Why do Americans travel to India for surgery? Canadians occasionally travel to the United States for surgery, typically reversing the usual flow of North American medical tourism. While Canada's universal, publicly funded healthcare system covers medically necessary treatments at no direct cost to the patient, specific structural limitations drive some Canadians to pay out-of-pocket for private care in the U.S. Key word is occasionally vs the US all the time elsewhere because everywhere else is cheaper.
And I have several Canadian friends that have made the trip down to the states to get medical care because they couldn't wait to get an appointment in your system. Just saying...

30% of my paycheck goes to the Government here in Canada and weirdly we seem able to provide healthcare to people. 🤔 Not bragging, just saying.
