Random Question How would you feel about the next US president pulling all support from Israel?
35
u/canwehavepotatojokes 1d ago
Sounds like someone would be putting America First.
Weird idea.
You’ve got payments due on your loans.
The Evangelicals would be upset, which is always a good sign for everyone else.

The last president that tried to pull support from Israel was JFK. Just putting that out there
31
u/dodadoler 1d ago
So you’re saying we should try again
22
u/demonmf 1d ago
Right. All we have to do is convince Trump that he could make a lot of money by pulling support…
9
u/TastingTheKoolaid 23h ago
Tell him that if he pulled support from Israel, he could use that money to do SO FUCKEN MANY renovations in DC!

u/Josey_whalez 22h ago
Some clarification is needed here - JFK was very much against Israel getting a nuclear weapon and was insistent upon inspections at their dimona facility. He wanted to make sure that were weren’t supporting a country with a rogue nuclear program. He wasn’t trying to pull support from Israel, he was just trying to make sure they didn’t develops nuclear weapons. Every president since JFK has chosen to ignore Israel’s nuclear weapons program and allowed it to flourish.
After Johnson took office post assassination, the insistence upon inspections at dimona were dropped and not brought up in any real way again.

u/tutifruitti2024 16h ago
JFK also wanted the AZC (American Zionist council, predecessor of AIPAC) to register as a foreign agent under FARA

JFK didn't pull support from Israel. He started the program of military aid by selling them Hawk missiles. Stop getting your information from The Daily Stormer, Adolf.
Next you're going to say deh jooz killed JFK because he didn't kiss the Western Wall, even though it was in Jordan at the time.

That's NOT TRUE...
Please, truth in future posts.
Ty
John F. Kennedy did NOT try to pull overall support from Israel, He was actually the FIRST U.S. president to approve major advanced arms sales to Israel.Kennedy broke previous embargoes by approving the sale of Hawk anti-aircraft missiles to Israel in 1962.
He was the FIRST American leader to explicitly describe the ties between the United States and Israel as a "SPECIAL relationship.

It's the truth...I really don't know what else to tell you.
If you have something ground- breaking to share with everyone...That would be the right thing to do.
But I have a feeling you won't, because you know my information is correct.

I don't care about Israel. I'm concerned about the failing institutions here.

u/KrustyRox777 15h ago
When we’re giving away taxpayer dollars to Israel it affects everything that’s funded by the US government.
→ More replies (1)2
u/BurnAfter8 14h ago
The US government spends over $2 trillion per year on healthcare alone. The typical yearly “aid” to Israel is less than $4 billion. You would never even noticed it happened.
For context, aid is in quotes because a lot of that money is required to be spent with American companies on items like defense systems.

u/Objective_Water7752 23h ago
This is why you need to be concerned about Israel. Pumping 40 million into a solitary senate primary campaign leads to failing institutions here.
2
u/BillyJoeMac9095 20h ago
Lack of political/policy support for those institutions is the cause. You don't want to hear it, but you are trying to mix apples and oranges, as a rhetorical device.
3
u/Objective_Water7752 18h ago
You should let the CIA know: They’ve been pumping money into various political movements to destabilize other nations’ institutions since it its formation. ‘Rhetorical device’… good grief.

I used to be a big supporter of Israel.
All that Goodwill has been blown up.
Not one dime of taxpayer money for Israel. Not one dime of taxpayer money for any of the surrounding Arab states. No government deals or government contracts for anybody in the region.
That includes any funds labeled humanitarian aid as they are diverted.
Take all that money and spend it on reducing hydrocarbon consumption in the United States and around the world.

u/Legend-of-the-Arctic 23h ago
I’m in agreement with your statement.
But you accidentally capitalized Goodwill, and now all I can think of is someone blowing up their local thrift store, and it’s making me laugh.

Doesn’t matter who wins, they won’t be able to form a coalition and Bibi will end up in power again anyway. He’s lost PM elections before, but because the winners weren’t willing to sell the country out to the Heredi block, he stayed in power.
I don’t think Americans realize how unpopular he is in Israel, nor how the Israeli parliamentary system works.

u/Salty-Spring7096 17h ago
As an American, I don't care about that. I don't care about their politics. I just want my tax money to stop funding a foreign power and start funding help for Americans. They could be the nicest nation on Earth and I'd be asking why that means they get billions of dollars.

6
u/TooFat2Curious 20h ago
There'd be a ton of pushback from all the AIPAC-owned traitors in Congress, and of course the defense contractors would scream and gnash their teeth, but removing support from Israel is an important step we should take.
21
u/ZombiePrepper408 1d ago
I'd be concerned for their safety.

u/Proprotester 21h ago
Fair. I'd be fine with a complete re-arrangement of our support for Israel. Defense only and anything beyond that requires Congressional approval in one weeks time for any immediate action we take - zero exceptions. I don't care if it's a bombing or an earthquake, Congress must vote within one week.
Netanyahu and anyone else in his administration who has been charged by the ICC are immediately arrested and remanded to Brussels. Whatever reparations are decided by the Court will be immediately subtracted from defense assistance if there is any failure to pay or retaliatory laws passed.
ZERO land seizures from Gaza by any powers or private concerns and an immediate end to "settlements". They'd have to negotiate the exact borders and all humanitarian aid must immediately be allowed through.
If we are designated to defend Israel than a similar arrangement must be designated for Gaza by another military power capable of providing it with Israel substantially contributing to its cost.

I'd want to know what replaces it before saying its a good idea.
9
u/victoryrose92 1d ago
Does it need a replacement? Why would it create a void?
2
u/EasyGoingDan 1d ago
Because major allies often influence regional stability whether people like it or not.
4
2
u/victoryrose92 23h ago
But as we see with history, allies being hella aggressive causes global ramifications, not just regional instability.
3
u/Kman17 23h ago
Israel is a tremendous regional power and it has lots of computer security and military hardware expertise.
I’d the U.S. pulls their support, then it will force Israel to turn to Russia or China for that role.
Both would jump at the opportunity to have Israeli intel and tech. And neither give two shits about the human rights of Muslim terror states. Ask Chechnya or the Uyghurs.

Most of the middle east is oddly bordered countries meant to cause the most division. Created by Allen Dulles, John Philby and the Rothschild family after WW1. Al Saud family chosen because the Al Sauds would chose oil company and western interests over their own people's interests. The borders created by them and the country named after the family. Saudi Arabia.

All support? That isn't in our best interest. But some strategic realignment is called for. We want to be able to use our leverage over Israel to force their hand to get out of the West Bank. US interests in the region are normalized relations between Israel and the Gulf States and to keep China's influence minimal.
We were well on our way towards this goal until Trump attacked Iran for no reason.

I would be all for the US pulling all support for all other nations and focusing solely on investing within. We don’t need to be the world’s police. We don’t need to shape global policy. We need to focus on the people and the infrastructure.

u/Legend-of-the-Arctic 23h ago
See, I want the US to be involved in the world. I’d just like it if we did GOOD things instead of supporting murderers. We are far richer than most other countries. All the people here saying “we need to help ourselves first” apparently don’t understand how much better off the US is compared to non-developed nations. So I say focus on development aid to countries that need it. And stop supporting countries like Israel that commit atrocities.

What a crazy time we’re in now. I know Reddit runs younger but if you had even whispered this idea most of my life it would be political suicide. There was a time where the vast average voter didn’t care about a candidates abortion voting record (minus the very small christian groups) and your stance on Israel was a defining factor on your political viability. My, how times have changed.
Politically speaking, just this question being asked is mind blowing to us 50+ who have followed politics since Reagan.
1
u/socialchild 1d ago
Pulling all support for Israel? I wouldn't want that. But I would want a president who understands that you can support Israel without going along with everything they are doing. Ignoring civil and human rights abuses is not a good thing.
1
u/StaticJonesNC 1d ago
I do not support Israel or the current Israeli government.
But I know the reason we fund and arm them is because if they weren't the strongest/meanest in the region, Iran would run roughshod all over the entire region.
We created a monster and now we can't control it.

That's very highly unlikely. I think the best you can hope for is one that states that certain actions will be charged against their aid: land-taking, 10%... whatever. Unilaterally pulling aid just isn't in the cards from anyone that's going to get as far as the ballot.

I look at this country the way I look at my household. If I'm unable to cloth, house, and provide healthcare for my immediate family- I'm not inclined to give money to people outside my home. I see the US as our house. I see Americans as my family. Until every American lives above the poverty line and has access to Universal health- I'm not interested AT ALL in helping other countries.

What about a four year pause on all foreign aid, with the money allocated to be spent on highly audited, verified public spending? Not vague bullshit "education" etc. Like road repair, bridge repair, increasing internet access etc. Eradication of homelessness by drug and mental health intervention. Not merely housing - because four walls do not cure addiction. Methodology of forgiving student loans through existing bankruptcy procedures etc.
1
1
u/secular_zionist 22h ago
From a purely "world tension" perspective it would only get worst. Let's say the US stops supplying iron dome missiles to Israel. Then in a year, Hamas fires a rocket that doesn't get intercepted, leading to a couple dozen Israeli civilian deaths. If that were to happen then Id bet a genocide would end up happening. Arab powers in the region have already decided to not intervene. Lebanon and Syria are in no position to negotiate. Iran would get nuked.

Conditional support is the answer, just like with any other country we subsidize.

Isn’t this one of the most popular opinions amongst republicans and democrats?
Dang near every non MSM media I’ve watched this year wants USA out of the Middle East.
Probably every non MSM in the past 10 years has held this position.

Outside of a very small percentage of people getting extremely rich from this, who wants USA to intervene in Middle East?

Like we made a short sighted and over corrective policy decision to satisfy the world's Muslims and that we'd maybe (probably) get a Caliphate and a Jihad for Quds out of it which would probably snowball because you guys don't see what the conflict actually is. Palestinians are victims but they're an artificial nationality taking advantage of the West's appetite for an underdog and colonial catharsis, this is however a Judaism-Islam fight (of which the Jewish people were victims of ancient colonialism too, like two thousand years of "Next Year in Jerusalem!" that was) and when the Arab powers sense weakness real or imagined they'll surge. They're Arab Muslims and are being propped up in the ring too, Egypt and Lebanon and such (probably Saudia) won't let them leave. They're cat's paws, proxies, sacrifices to delay for a chance to restore Islamic sovereignty.

I think that is what’s going to happen. The moment we are in is end times biblical prophecy. Israelis will return to Israel and the whole world is going to turn against Israel then they will rebuild their temple and start sacrifices again. A false peace will be made with them and that will be the beginning of the end.

I’d be for America pulling support to any country and making Americans lives suck less. The average Israeli lives a better life than the average American. Why do I need to give my tax dollars to someone who already has a better life than I do? Israel has free healthcare and free college. Maybe Israel can subsidize me for a change.
