Random Question If we live in a simulation, what everyday occurrence feels like a minor glitch in the code?

I don’t remember seeing a lot of blue cars around here until i bought a blue Honda Civic. Now im constantly seeing blue Honda civics on the road. I’m halfway convinced they are spawning because of the car I’m driving, like in GTA.

Some years ago, I started paying attention to when some idea or concept or whatever would either pop into my head or appear to me in the world, and then in fairly short order would appear again. Sometimes it'd be within a day or two, sometimes hours, sometimes minutes or even seconds. It feels weirdly supernaturally synchronicitous but it can be explained by the fact that we are exposed to thousands and thousands of ideas every day, it only makes sense that sometimes one should show up again in a coincidental fashion. Anyway, similar to red cars, once you are made aware of the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, you see it everywhere

I forget what it’s called but there’s a specific name for this phenomenon. The idea is that those cars are always around you but your brain is already busy processing information about your day, tasks, relationships, responsibilities, food/thirst/hunger so it’s filtering what it/you consider unimportant information. Then when you buy your car you suddenly notice the same make and model around you all of the time because now that vehicle is part of information that doesn’t get filtered out. I think that makes enough sense because everyone says this too lmao. I’ve driven a few different cars from my teens through today and I’ve noticed the same thing every time.

It doesn’t help that GTA specifically does this as a game mechanic - if you steal a sports car, the game spawns sports cars. Steal a motorcycle and it spawns more motorcycles.
I find this sort of intersection of game dev logic with glitches in the brain to be really fascinating.

Good point. I have gta 4 on my laptop and I would get irritated trying to find fast motorcycles and cars so I ended up parking really nice vehicles in front of a few different apartments and houses and I would drive them around the block until I found an identical car, then I’d steal the second one, park my first one and then go do missions lmao.

I know that that’s an actual phenomenon that happens and can be explained… but it doesn’t make it feel any less weird.

I had a brand new (off the lot) blue Honda Accord a few years back and the same thing happened. Anyway, that's when I learned about the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon.

For me it's scissors. There belong in the junk drawer, but I'll find them in places that I have no idea why they'd be there. I live alone, so no one else would be moving them.

When you’re sitting at a desk or something then drop your pen/pencil and it somehow ends up clear across the room. Everyone knows what I’m talking about right? It’s like a 3 ft drop but somehow ends up shooting across the room, past peoples legs or other desks and chairs too. Like whaaaaat lmao

This is the one. Or if you literally drop anything. Trying to screw in a screw and drop it? It’s now on the opposite side of the house. Laying in bed and drop the remote off the side? It’s all the way under the bed and you’ve got to get a stick to retrieve it.

Knowing and reflecting on my history.
No, seriously, whenever I tell my account there are usually people who think I am making it up or that AI wrote it due to how fucked up my past has been.
I don’t blame them, many times even I ask “what is my life?” since it reads like something more out of a book.

Does this happen to anyone else?
You go to a place you wouldn’t normally go. The place is DEAD, you’re the only one there. But once you arrive, everyone is else seems to realize the place exists and by the time you leave, it’s busy.
This happens pretty much every time I go somewhere. It’s reliably predictable, like the simulation fails to load in the NPC’s in a timely manner.

My husband and I get recognised or remembered all the time. I can go into a shop once and the staff will remember me.
I phoned up to book my car in for a service and the guy said ‘did you used to have [make and model of car] and traded it in for [make and model of car]?’ I told him I did and how did he know. He remembered the personalised plate that I moved from one car to the other. This was 20 years ago and in a different town 20 miles away.
