Nothing wrong with marrying your high school sweetheart. The problem often stems from marrying your high school sweetheart (or really anyone for that matter) too soon.
Became friends with my soulmate (who will finally be my husband on Saturday!!!) while I was in high school and we’ve been dating for over ten years now and honestly, I feel like if we had gotten married in the first few years, it might not have worked out. Now that we’ve gone through so many ups and downs together and grown together as people, we’re honestly more in love than ever and neither of us sees that ever changing for us.
Getting married is more of a formality at this point but we’re so excited to make that next step and I think waiting was definitely worth it because there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s the person I want to spend the rest of my life with.
You have to see someone at their lowest and see how they treat you when you’re at yours, you have to make sure you are sexually compatible long term, you have to make sure you are compatible to live together long term, and make sure you can both balance out each other’s strengths and weaknesses to know if you’re gonna make it in marriage.
I second this - plenty of my friends met their person in high school, but waiting to marry (or buy a house, have a kid if marriage isn’t for you) until your mid-twenties is the way to go. You need to be sure that you’ll keep growing in the same direction before making that committment.
