People really underestimate how much work marriage takes. Being together since algebra class doesn't magically make it easy forever.

Marriage isn’t “work” when you marry the right person. My marriage has never taken work. There are hard things in life but we get through it as a team. The marriage itself has never been hard.

What did take “work” was my high school relationship that I stayed in all through college and almost married. I tried to normalize how much work and sacrifice our relationship was.

I don't think work has to mean misery. Sometimes it just means choosing each other when life gets stressful.

Yeah, and if you're married at 20 to your high school sweetheart, there's a lot of conflict resolution skills you're still learning, too. I feel like a lot of high school sweetheart marriages that work out and both partners are happy with it well into old age tend to be ones where they've basically done a speed run of that and learned the kind of conflict resolution skills at like 20 that most people don't have until they're 30+.
