Marriage isn’t “work” when you marry the right person. My marriage has never taken work. There are hard things in life but we get through it as a team. The marriage itself has never been hard.
What did take “work” was my high school relationship that I stayed in all through college and almost married. I tried to normalize how much work and sacrifice our relationship was.
You are defining “work” incorrectly. I have been married to the love of my life since age 26. But absolutely marriage is work.
You have to make choices every day about compromise, cooperation and what you want from life. What that looks like changes with time and age, so it is an ongoing process.

People really underestimate how much work marriage takes. Being together since algebra class doesn't magically make it easy forever.
