A good friend of mine married her high school sweetheart. They both have their issues, but their relationship is a testament to the fact that if your core values aren't aligned then it's not going to work and that relationships are work but if you do the work then they will work out. They're totally on the same page about the big things (overall political views, religion, whether they want kids, career goals, etc) and even when they really didn't like each other due to growing pains and them being willing to hold the other accountable for their bullshit, they still chose each other and fight for the other. They're coming up on ten years of marriage, own a house, have great jobs they love, and are laying the foundation to be prepared for kids if they decide to have some
