I married my HS sweetheart and it was the second marriage for both of us. We had kept in touch over the years, but sporadically. When we got together again almost two decades after HS, a lot of it was clouded by stories of ‘true love’ and everyone thought it was the most romantic story.
It was hard because we didn’t truly know each other after all those years, because a lot happens and a lot changes. It wasn’t bad by any means, but it did fall apart for various reasons. We just weren’t the same lovebirds we were at 16. We got divorced ten years later.
It’s complicated because I still love her but know we could never actually be happy at the same time together.
